'snap' is a platform for Linux (many distributions). Not so in Devuan, where the package seems to be related to specifical biological issues.
And I cannot find 'snapd' or 'snap-store'.
Is it possible tu use snapd "a service that enables the installation and management of Snap packages on Linux systems" (https://linuxcapable.com/how-to-install … ian-linux/) somehow in Devuan?
Thanks

Hello:
@Raulcla
@Kristof12
The site's search function is quite useful.
You may want to consider trying it out.
That said, have a look at these two threads:

TL;DR
Devuan is a systemd-less distribution.
snapd requires systemd -> because of this, snapd is a banned package.
Hence the lack of snapd or anything snap related in the Devuan repository.
Best,
A.

I'm sorry but this makes me very happy.

Me too! I freakin LOVE Devuan, best parent distro on the planet.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vuu-do/ New Vuu-do isos uploaded April 2025!
Vuu-do GNU/Linux, minimal Devuan-based Openbox and Mate systems to build on. Also a max version for OB.
Devuan 5 mate-mini iso, pure Devuan, 100% no-vuu-do. Devuan 6 version also available for testing.

The snap-programm seems to be the (only) way to get Whatsapp on the linux-laptop (instead or in addition to the smartphone). And some other useful programs will probably be available on it. So that is a bit of a nuisance.
Still, it is for the time being no big issue. It was to be expected that the distance to Debian would be growing with time.
Thanks a lot for the information and comments

You have obviously missed the https://web.whatsapp.com/ option. This works the same as any of those supposed applications which are a wrapper for the web app instead of using it directly in the web browser.

The https://web.whatsapp.com/ option allows to connect the laptop-browser with Whatsapp on the Smartphone. I am looking for a way to use Whatsapp without any smartphone whatsoever - and I hoped, this could be possible.
But maybe I am wrong and there is no such thing, not even with "snap".
Thanks

I am pretty sure that that isn't possible. I have tried it with Telegram, no way, it requires a smartphone application and phone number to connect to on Linux. You can use the Linux program once you have linked it with a smartphone. Its the same with Signal.
And I think its the same for Whatsapp. The linking to the smartphone is required from state authorities to be able to track users.

You are not wrong, never seen it on Linux, it is always the web app. Even when it is wrapped into an application by someone you are stuck with the web app. Which means no video calling at all only an option for voice call. And of course using the cell phone to link the app to be able to use it on your computer.
