@KnightTemplar . . . You can find details about using and configuring Refracta at https://refracta.org/   ;

#203 Re: Forum Feedback » FluxBB » 2025-07-05 18:07:40

@ alphalpha . . . Yes, FluxBB is a good fit for Devuan. The software was old even when it was first installed. I have no idea if there have been any "official" updates since then but there have been some custom modifications. Here's the story of how we got to FluxBB . . .

Devuan's first forum was Discourse. It was not very well received by Devuan users. So I created and self-hosted Dev1Galaxy as the "The Officially Unofficial Devuan Forum!" alternative. Two or so years later, Discourse was mothballed and Dev1Galaxy became the "Officially Official Devuan Forum!".

As long as it works, why would there be any reason to change it? SNS is not exactly Devuan's style . . . wink

hunter0one . . . Welcome to Devuan! You might find this documentation a good place to start:

Anubis is a pain but those bots!

@KnightTemplar . . . Welcome aboard the freedom train!

#206 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2025-07-02 00:40:52

Note that the "The Joke Thread" was only temporarily "locked". I just pushed some "buttons" and the "pigeons" pecked at the bait. How very Pavlovian of them! It was a fun gotcha!! big_smile

To put that comment into context please see this thread I can't believe you closed the Joke thread:

#207 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2025-07-01 21:14:14

Note that this is a rewrite of my previous post here which suffered from my foggy memory . . .

Note that "The Joke Thread" has been unblocked since 2025-02-27. I was rather surprised that no one figured that out. Then a new user unaware of the history gave it a try and brought it back to life.

As long as "The Joke Thread" does not become the most active one day after day like it has in the past, it will remain open.

All things in moderation . . .

Please take a deep breath and stop poking at each other . . .

#209 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » noCSD for GTK4 » 2025-06-29 21:15:38

This is the first I've heard about this patch . . . that I can remember. Perhaps someone will test it in Devuan and make it available for Devuan. Possibly you?

#211 Re: Other Issues » How to change Devuan Forum Username? » 2025-06-27 21:10:43

Here's a history lesson regarding this forum to explain to Non_Woke_Linux_User and other newcomers how I became an admin here . . .

Devuan's first forum was Discourse. It was not very well received by Devuan users. So I created and self-hosted Dev1Galaxy as the "The Officially Unofficial Devuan Forum!" alternative. Two or so years later, Discourse was mothballed and Dev1Galaxy became the "Officially Official Devuan Forum!".  big_smile

Let this be a reminder that the fantasies we dream up in our head most often have little to do with reality! wink

#212 Re: Off-topic » GNOME is taking the scum bag approach still... » 2025-06-27 19:56:04

+1000 to IgnorantGuru!!! I can't count how many times I have shared his "gnome-et-al-rotting-in-threes" since it was written. Those of us who were paying attention could see the steamroller coming . . .

#214 Re: Off-topic » GNOME is taking the scum bag approach still... » 2025-06-26 23:36:27

Good grief . . . that is one sick puppy! I'm sooo happy in my cave! big_smile

#215 Re: Other Issues » How to change Devuan Forum Username? » 2025-06-26 22:41:54

I don't know how you became an administrator here, it's amazing!

Perhaps you will learn, grasshopper . . . wink

#216 Re: Other Issues » How to change Devuan Forum Username? » 2025-06-26 19:29:48

Contemplating physical, verbal and/or mental actions before executing them usually avoids situations like this. wink  Your problem is YOUR doing! You are fun to play with!!

#218 Re: Installation » How to Install XLibre on Devuan Daedalus (MATE)? » 2025-06-24 00:48:25

Welcome to paradise erm Devuan! AFAIK, no one in this camp has experimented with XLibre. Perhaps you would like to lead the testing and adaptation of XLibre for Devuan?

#219 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » XLibre: The New Xorg Fork » 2025-06-23 20:06:44

Good find! Sounds like they want to stop the bleeding from (yet another) bone-headed decision! They sure are slow learners in that camp . . .

#220 Re: Off-topic » GNOME is taking the scum bag approach still... » 2025-06-21 00:53:52

@steve_v . . . Thanks for that excellent assessment. I do hope that SOMEONE will step up to provide an XLibre option for Devuan so that I can avoid Wayland for the remainder of my days. Sadly, the task is way above my pay grade . . .

#221 Re: Off-topic » Debian removed multi-init support from the latest shipped grub » 2025-06-19 23:37:40

Anecdote: Over a decade ago and before systemd made its formal entrance on Debian, I went several rounds with Michael Biebl (and others) on the debian-user mail list and nearly got banned. Shortly thereafter, I surrendered to the immovable reality and never posted there again . . .

#222 Re: Off-topic » Debian removed multi-init support from the latest shipped grub » 2025-06-19 18:55:50

@yurimodin . . . You are a little late to the party but at least you finally figured it out! big_smile systemd is a ball and chain of servitude and blind obedience . . .

Not to worry . . . There is a solution for some of that. It's not easy to "lose" a tiny sub-dermal chip containing all your important personal info!

Note that a voip connection is still working for me on an ancient set of Panasonic phones that a friend handed down to me over a decade ago. My "emergency" cell phone has the battery removed and I have no idea if it would still work to make a 911 emergency call which is why I bought it a very long time ago.

Yeah . . . that last entry was an epic fail. The relentlessness of his/its posts is very borderline human behavior.
