#1727 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] libsystemd0 remains » 2020-06-04 19:46:02

Why are systemd files present in Devuan?

That was before elongind replaced libsystemd.  There shouldn't be any libsystemd0 in beowulf.

#1728 Re: Devuan » Why apt still links to libsystemd0? » 2020-06-04 15:41:24

This problem is fixed in Chimaera and will be also in the Beowulf point release (coming soon) iirc

@pcalvert . . . Thank you for that rational and lucid explanation.  Looks like you have contributed an import tool for Debianistas  to regain their init freedom.  Well done!!

Anything in cli is a lot of work for me.  I saw his post and glazed over.  I'm really not that much of a techie.  My "talents" lie elsewhere.  That's why I was asking for some comparative Cliff Notes.

I wouldn't have posted this if I didn't have great respect for pcalvert.  It's just that comparative discussion would be useful to me (so I don't have to figure it out myself . . . which is, in reality, a non-starter . . . LOL!).

Thought some of you intrepid d1gers might find this post from pcalvert, a long time Debian user, interesting or perhaps amusing?

Although written in the style of a tutorial, this document is not intended to be an exhaustive tutorial. Instead, the purpose of this document is to explain how I set up a Debian Buster system with SysVinit as PID 1 so that experienced GNU/Linux users can duplicate what I did. In addition, the system created by following this How-to should be considered experimental and not suitable for production use (until proven otherwise).

Seems like a lot of work to end up pretty much were the forks landed years ago but to each his/her own . . . .

I'd be interested in seeing  some perceptive comments from the d1g rebels!

That information is all over devuan channels and documentation for those who care to rtfm.

Hi,

Just to say, in the mirror list to download devuan there is one with a "strange" name...

https://devuan.org/get-devuan

The name is : devuan.unetresgrossebite.com

https://twitter.com/_adriend_/status/12 … 9476157443

In french this mean "a big dick"....

Someone should probably remove that...

Good grief.  We are well aware of that and it has been reported more than once.  That mirror has been serving Devuan for many years and hopefully will for many more to come.

#1735 Re: Installation » Beowulf install » 2020-06-01 16:12:59

Try https://BETA.devuan.org/os/packages for beowulf

OMG someone pushed it to master!  And there are things that still need to be done there!!

@larsH . . . Thank you for the feedback!

#1737 Re: News & Announcements » Beowulf Beta is here! » 2020-05-31 18:53:33

@larsH . . . Did you choose the "expert" install option?  That's where most of the options are available.

Check spam.  Also that you intentionally subscribed. Starting a thread does not automatically subscribe you.

I have never received one.  I think you would only get one if you were subscribed to a thread and it had recent activity.

I seem to remember that it now requires pulseaudio.  Search around a bit.

Are you aware that jessie is now oldoldstable and will be EOL by the end of June?  Even I will have to say goodby to my trusty jessie that has been running since just after the fork.  sad

#1745 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Can't update system due to NO_PUBKEY, common solutions don't work » 2020-05-16 02:10:43

Unfortunately, I realized I had never put it on the live beta site so just did that.  I had only put it in the new human-workable site that's not online yet.

#1746 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Can't update system due to NO_PUBKEY, common solutions don't work » 2020-05-16 02:04:59

Try this on the beta site:
https://beta.devuan.org/os/keyring

Don't know if it will help if you are on ascii.  Such esoteric stuff is beyond my pay-grade

#1747 Re: Devuan » IRC offtopic moderation » 2020-05-15 19:54:03

Stay on topic in a channel or be reminded there is a more appropriate place to do it.  It's that simple.

Also have a look at The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct in this very forum

Please post a list of just what you have contributed to the betterment of the Devuan project besides your pompous opinions.

SJW begone!

PS.  No appropriate discussion is ever shut down in the appropriate channel

The whole idea of MIYO is to Make It Your Own so feel free to make those modifications yourself.

#1749 Re: Installation » First time install; how do I access rest of packages on DVD(on usb) » 2020-05-13 21:09:07

@Astara . . . Do you by any chance have "testing" in your sources.list?  If, yes you might have pulled in Debian Bullseye.  Always use the Devuan release name in your sources.
