5. Remember, this is a meeting place every that shares a love of Devuan, and Linux (without systemd).  So please play nice.

perhaps this has error/miskey/omission around "this is a meeting place every that shares" area? <grinning-emoji-polishing-spoon>

#156 Re: Off-topic » Microcode » 2025-02-11 09:35:46

out of curiosity, here is a cut and paste quote of the fourth paragraph in that commentary:

This is ancient history for modern CPUs. Program code like x86 has long since stopped bearing any relationship to how data is physically crunched. Instead, that code is translated into micro-instructions that work with the microcode unit to optimally use all the pipelining, out-of-order execution, and inherent parallelism that speeds the plow.

mostly just wanting to confirm that others are also seeing that the last word in the last sentence should be flow not plow.

and confirming originating URL:
https://www.theregister.com/2025/02/10/microcode_attack_trump_musk/

also, it reads quite suspiciously and likely partially and/or entirely ai generated from snippets/soundbites originating elsewhere.

ymmv.

vaguely remember some other good commentaries but can't quite grep them atm, will add as they come to mind.

re @stopAI

Currently, Christmas is a commercialized capitalist holiday. I have no doubt that most people do not think about the meaning of this holiday....

indeed.

thanks for letting thread visitors know that this was another "upgrade versus fresh-install" conundrum.

while i humbly and respectfully acknowledge that not _everyone_ is able to do a fresh-install(whether from lacking hardware and/or skills and/or willingness), nevertheless a fresh install is by far best.

should this be a poem or haiku?

mostly for the convenience of future thread visitors, since DD was mentioned:

also please visit the other projects as well for additional food for thought:

sometimes i remember to remember to marvel at each and every successful storage media activation(but oh how the expletives flow when they don't...sigh)

#172 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] Mounting HDD in a USB cradle » 2025-01-12 06:29:03

shouldn't the thread title be less misleading? how about "Can I recover data from a raid member?" also, why no mention of important information like "raid array" and "managed by lvm" in the original post?

typically customer initiated returns are a discrete opportunity to continually be on the lookout for counterfeits. the company feels fortunate that you don't feel the need to send it to one of the labs that does this:

@zapper, golinux modification was only to add some text to the original post(no deletions iirc)

======================

Note that this response is not only incredibly stupid but off-topic and way out-of-line. stargate-sg1-cheyenne-mtn . . . you can do better than this.

humor and/or "lack" of it, is a contentious/deep/wide subject/topic(and varies widely depending on a vast multitude of conditionals)

for one example consider the contributions of:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquis_de_Sade

anywho/nevertheless/andallthatjazz...

even the OT of the OP is such a deep subject that it is almost defies logical rational reasoned thought.
