[root@devuan ~]# Now, seeing that I did an ASCII --> Beowulf dist-upgrade as per the pertinent instructions, why is this happening?
Was something missing in my ASCII?
Did I miss something whiole installing?
Do I have to install libpam-elogind?
Is consolekit no longer used?
I recall it was the one I had to use for the SLiM/XFCE combination.
Thanks you both for your input.

Hello:
Do the movie sites use DRM?
What?
Not the ones I frequent ... 8^D !!!
uBlock Origin gets heavy use though.
Pale Moon does not and will not support DRM.
I don't go near any of those.
Cheers,
A.
Hello:
I had been putting off upgrading from ASCII to Beowulf for the longest while but now it is done.
A new upgraded VirtualBox installation is in place and everything seems to be working.
groucho@devuan:~$ uname -a
Linux devuan 4.19.0-14-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.171-2 (2021-01-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux
groucho@devuan:~$
I did get an unasked for Firefox-ESR, maybe it is part of a metapackage from the ASCII installation?
What I cannot seem to find information on is libpolkit-qt5-1-1 being kept back:

Hello:
Hello:
I'm having more problems with video feeds in Pale Moon 29.0.1 (64-bit).
I had been putting off upgrading from ASCII to Beowulf for the longest while.
The thought/possibilty of WINE/PMail/IrfanView or X acting up really put me off.
But then I saw Perseverance land on Mars (safely) and said to myself: iof NASA can do that, I can upgrade to Beowulf.
So ...
About maybe an hour or so later, here I am.
groucho@devuan:~$ uname -a
Linux devuan 4.19.0-14-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.171-2 (2021-01-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux
groucho@devuan:~$ A few configurations did not make it eg: custom terminal colours and window styles, but I'll manage.
Unfortunately, my VirtualBox installation went south. 8^-7
But that's for another thread.
With respect to Palemoon and the video feed problems: the one at the WP is fixed. It seems I can see it without problems.
But a couple of the movie sites I frequent still do not work.
It's still the same version 29.0.1 (64-bit) so it was not (?) a Pale Moon thing.
No idea what is missing.
Maybe some codec?
Just thought I'd send a heads up.
Cheers,
A.
Hello:
vlc is an option worth considering.
I have VLC installed.
Didn't know I could use it.
Thanks for the heads up. 8^D
A.
Hello:
I'd appreciate suggestions for a web radio streaming package, small lightweight and simple.
Lately my FM reception is giving me some grief.
TIA
A.
... getting truly off topic for this thread.
Indeed ...
As the OP, I quite agree.
Way off topic.
...mods could be kind enough to split this off ...
+1
Thanks for bringing it up.
A.
Hello:
I can hear it, do you have any addons blocking the video?
Works for me even with my adblocker running.
No.
Only have uBlock Origin 1.16.4.28 running.
But I get the same if I turn it off.
On a hunch, I tried enabling MSE for MP4 video: I get the slow motion sound/video I reported the last time I posted about video feed problems with Pale Moon.
I enable MSE for WebM video, get the same "Please try a different browser" advice. 8^7
This is the latest Pale Moon available.
Thanks for your input.
Cheers,
A.
Hello:
I'm having more problems with video feeds in Pale Moon 29.0.1 (64-bit).
Trying to see this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/?noredir … 2880468724
... I get this:
---
We’re sorry. Your browser does not support live video streaming.
Please try a different browser.
---
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
A.
Hello:
... Tools > Preferences > Content, and at the bottom uncheck "Enable MSE for MP4 video."
Oooooooooopsssssssss ...
Seems I'm really not ending this week on the right frequency. 8^|
Too much time cooped up?
In any case, after unchecking everything MSE, things are working properly again.
Indeed, thank you Ron.
Thanks to all for their input.
And sorry for the slip-ups.
Best,
A.
Hello:
There is no Devuan Stretch.
Damn ...
How utterly embarrassing. 8^|
I stand corrected: I'm running Devuan ASCII.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Cheers,
A.
Hello:
I also use Palemoon and have playback problems ...
... audio sounds pitch-shifted down a couple of octaves...
Shifted down because of the speed, to the extent of not being understandable?
That's what I'm seeing.
Good (not really), I'm glad there's someone else affected by this.
Now to hunt for the reason. 8^7
I'm on Devuan Stretch ...
groucho@devuan:~$ uname -a
Linux devuan 4.9.0-14-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.246-2 (2020-12-17) x86_64 GNU/Linux
groucho@devuan:~$
... and Xfce 4.12.
Edit:
Could you please try the links I posted in previously and report back with the results?
Also, do you experience the same problem with YouTube video feeds?
Edit 2:
I can confirm it does not ocurr while streaming YouTube video feeds.
See this page: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/202 … eth-meyers
All the YouTube feeds can be seen/heard correctly.
Unfortunately, one of my favourites (Trevor Noah) which is a Twitter feed, cannot.
So it may be a Twitter/Palemoon thing. (?)
Thanks a lot for your input.
A.
Hello:
... go to Tools > Preferences > Content, and at the bottom uncheck "Enable MSE for MP4 video."
MSE is enabled for both MP4 video and WebM video.
Still no cigar ...
It's not just sound, it seems to be the playback speed.
I don't think it is Devuan related because Firefox does not have this problem.
Could it be because I'm running the portable version of Palemoon instead of an appimage? (can't find one)
Thanks for your input.
A.
Hello:
... it played fine in my older PM once I enabled video (which I usually have blocked).
It happens here ...
https://yesmovies.ag/movie/news-of-the- … ching.html
... but not here:
https://azm.to/movie/news-of-the-world (server 1)
I have to check, but IIRC it does not happen with YouTube video feeds.
TIA
A.
Hello:
Thanks for the prompt reply.
... a link to a problem video please?
Sure ...
This is one.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/to … video.html
Do you have any extensions that tweak video playback?
Not that I am aware of.
TIA
A.
Hello:
I use Pale Moon 29.0.0 (64-bit) 'portable' on my Devuan install:
groucho@devuan:~$ uname -a
Linux devuan 4.9.0-14-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.246-2 (2020-12-17) x86_64 GNU/Linux
groucho@devuan:~$ I run it directly from a folder in /home as it is not in the repository.
As of late (month or so) I have been having what seems to be a speed playback problem when watching (some) on-line videos, a problem which does not occur if I watch the same videofeed on Firefox 64 (64-bit) and I'd much rather not use Firefox.
I run Firefox from an appimage.
Could someone please point me to a suitable solution?
Thanks in advance,
A.
Hello:
Just a heads up so we're all on our toes:
This morning's article in The Register:
https://www.theregister.com/2021/02/03/kobalos_malware/
ESET page on the matter:
We reverse engineered this small, yet complex, malware that is portable to many operating systems including Linux, BSD, Solaris, and possibly AIX and Windows.

Hello:
Just a shot note to wish one and all here at Dev1 a great [fill in your option here] and a Happy New Year [to those who change year these days].
Especially to the packagers and adminns taking care of Devuan and the forum.
Hopefully, 2021 will be better.
Could not be worse than 2020 ...
Cheers,
A.
Do you have please explanation for it ?
Hmm ...
Let's see.
Ah yes, found one you may like:
HoaS, golinux, our boss r.r and I are all members of a secret systemd cabal infiltrated here at Dev1 and, having nothing better to do, decided to gang up on you.
Nothing personal, just for business.
ie: fun and spite.
Lighten up ...
There's a deadly pandemic raging outside.
Cheers,
A.
Helllo:
Not sure what the problem could be.
... depends according to the "Debian-based" instructions ...
Yes.
And added libtgtk3-perl just in case. 8^)
Did you mistakenly create it as root instead?
I don't think so ...
But given the results, I've been thinking it that I may have.
What am I missing?
elogind commands...
Shutdown = loginctl poweroff
Reboot = loginctl reboot
Thanks for the heads up.
I'll have a look and see how I do with those.
Thanks for your input.
Cheers,
A.
Hello:
... must be mistaken ...
Quite so. 8^/
Was without my coffee ...
Not sure, sorry. I would investigate ...
I'll have a look and see.
Snooker is a priority. 8^D
Thanks a lot for your help.
Cheers,
A.
Hello:
You should show us exactly what you are adding ...
Right ...
It is the same stanza I used with the previous OB setup.
## This uses the 'oblogout' menu
{item => ['lxterminal sudo -e shutdown -r now', 'Reboot', 'applications-system']},and
## This uses the 'oblogout' menu
{item => ['lxterminal sudo -e shutdown -h now', 'Shutdown', 'applications-system']},This works ...
{item => ['sudo shutdown -r now', 'Reboot']},... doesn't have an icon ...
Indeed ...
Works as intended.
I used one of the other available icons.
BTW: only those icons are available? ie: the ones with the UUID type names?
... prefer to use obsession to exit the openbox session.
I'm used to ctrl+alt+backspace, fast enough.
Thanks for your input.
Cheers,
A.
Hello:
Check the installation instructions ...
... link to my Debian packages ...
... decide to use my packages ...
Done.
I was having a hard time with the other install.
Took a while to week everything out.
But finally managed to get it done.
... try to remove the perl modules ...
# cpanm uninstall Linux::DesktopFiles Data::Dump File::DesktopEntry
It only worked with
# cpanm --uninstall Linux::DesktopFiles Data::Dump File::DesktopEntryHTH
Yes ...
Much easier/straightforward to install.
But I think it may have a problem (?).
It would not pick up xfe, starting Firefox instead.
Again, after a while I managed to get a hold on editing schema.pl and fixed it.
Now I have a problem with a couple of Openbox entries I use frequently.
In my previous non-configurator menu, I had entries for reboot and shutdown.
execute --> lxterminal sudo -e shutdown -r now and execute --> lxterminal sudo -e shutdown -r now.
These still work perfectly well from the command line ie: sudo -e shutdown -r/h now but using the stanza in schema.pl won't work.
What am I missing?
---
sort of off topic ...
Nah !
Doesn't have all the functionality of obmenu-generator ...
Let me see if I can get my head around this one first. 8^7
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks in advance,

It did. 8^D
Thanks a lot for your input.

Trying to set up Openbox to my liking.
