Have you ever considered that greenjeans might be making those decisions in order to best serve his local community of aging, non-techie neighbors that often only have access to older, sub-par hardware? Or community service at his local Library to provide public internet access? Didn't think so. Service to others is so not your forte . . .

@einpoklum . . . Yes, something is amiss there. I am getting a JavaScript error but if I click on the error, it goes away and I can select the item I want. Rinse and repeat to view each new page. The fix is beyond my pay-grade. I'll try to find someone to do it.
Note that I stopped providing the theming after Daedalus. I tried to find someone to continue with Excalibur. I even named the theme "DeathMetal" and had a color palette worked out but no takers to fully develop the theme. And with the changes upstream, I have doubts that the old themes will work or that the detailed How-To would be viable.

It is the word "camel", or any other word for that matter, that is the problem. We assign words to objects but the words are not and never will be those objects. IOW we live in a "world" of abstract thoughts that weave a "fantasy" that has little to do with reality and ironically keeps us on a never-ending treadmill of more of the same . . ..

FYI . . . the wiki seems to be a perpetual WIP. There have been several failed attempts along the way. AFAIK the current version has not been "officially" integrated with our other documentation. I stopped keeping track of it years ago . . .

What stands out most to me personally is the Devuan project team and this community. In Peppermint, we dabble in different base operating systems, we reach out to their maintainers, asking about build tools, getting a feel of what’s involved. Out of all those experiences, the Devuan community has been by far the most open, helpful, and approachable group we’ve encountered at the core OS level.
From guidance on branding and ISO compilation tools to troubleshooting fsroot issues, everyone here has been incredibly generous with their time and help.
Honestly, other communities can be gatekeepers, toxic, or just plain mean… but the Devuan folks are a breath of fresh air.

That is the core ethos of this amazing distro and as you can see we are extremely tolerant of the BS that gets thrown at us. That does not however mean that we do not have limits. In fact . . . steve_v had a nice "time out" not that long ago.

Had said incident not happened, he would have likely contributed directly to the releases of Daedalus and now Excalibur, as well as the next testing version Freia.
We have always consulted very different crystal balls. At least you get credit for qualifying and hedging your "conclusion" . . .

Hey greenjeans . . . We go back even further than that. Remember the rebel Debian forum created around the time of the rigged Resolution vote that changed the course of Debian forever?
You have always done your thing to provide your local community and other De***n users with your alternative re-spin Vu-Doo. I know what a re-spin is because I use Refracta myself. Sometimes, you might find a bug but afaik are not contributing to or maintaining critical chunks of Devuan infrastructure itself. You scratch your own itch. I know that well because I scratched my itch to give Devuan an integrated visual identity to all of its user-facing content. But - and please correct me if I'm wrong - neither of those Devuan derivatives would survive for long if Devuan ceased to exist.
Currently too many critical tasks are SPOF due to lack of developer redundancy so I really don't get why we are expanding options to distract users from focusing on essentials. Seems a bit like "fiddling while Rome burns" . . .

For those who might not know, I will list a few of my contributions to the Devuan project. Visually, Devuan would be a completely different animal without my input. This very forum would never have been created. Neither would the Devuan logo or the customized default desktops for Jessie through Daedalus. The current minimal forum layout was also my doing. It has been an honor to have created and unified Devuan's visual identity and messaging that so many have appreciated. Many thanks to all the wonderful Devuan users that have passed through and also left their mark on Devuan over the years.

Have you ever contributed any code directly to Devuan? Please remind me. If lack of needed hands-on begins to negatively impact Devuan's viability, you could just pick up your Vuu-do marbles and move to another base . . .

@EDX-0 . . . I had no idea things had gotten that bad in EU. I had the privilege of riding the wave of optimism and belief in education and progress following WWII. Accelerated classes. Amazing field-trips. After-school lectures from scientists on the cutting edge of research. Affordable higher education and all that went with that.
I never wanted a computer. Someone had to buy one for me. It was fun for a while and I used it to fight successfully to stop several unwanted local projects etc. and of course Devuan (even before it existed). Then dealing with the machine started becoming not fun anymore . . . always chasing my tail having to constantly relearn how the damn thing works. Having the machine dictate my life is not living . . . it is servitude!

Sad that our species has devolved to the point where "remedial classes" are suggested as a "solution" . . .
Note that I speak as an observer of the present compared to the tapestry of the past. Humans used to be competent to solve real problems in the real world. Those skills are quickly devolving and I am unsure that remedial intervention would even be effective at this point. The "masters of the machine" have seen to that . . .
When I was in high school, I read SciFi that foresaw this dynamic so no surprise that we have created what our collective consciousness has imagined and it is actually rather horrifying . . .

This is not a bad idea but . . .
Devuan does not need more diversification. It needs more hands on deck to take care of the essentials that are required. Currently, there is little or no redundancy to maintain those essential tasks and the new ones that keep popping up. Better use of your talents would be to join the team rather than to scratch your own itch.

Ceres is always broken. You should know this by now. Once Debian fixes something, Devuan has to fix Debian's breakage of Devuan.

AFAIK, deleted posts disappear forever. Early on, some posts were moved to an admin location for discussion and future reference but I don't think it is used anymore. As to whether they still count . . . that is a question for rrq. Why does the bean-counter matter to you?
