I did a refracta ascii installation, it told me that some stuff were missing but apparently the next day they were there again. So something is up with the repositories.
I have no pulseaudio, it is all alsa and sounding good.
OpenRC works very well.
But, as long as you do a dist-upgrade and then use autoremove I don't see how in the world things would be different. I always upgrade apt itself and a few other things before I do a complete upgrade. I have gone from wheezy to ceres via jessie or straight into ascii in the past. The outcome was identical.
If you just do apt upgrade alone you may end up with frankenchrist.
I'm really happy with this installation.
The next obstacle would be to get S6 working on Devuan. Someone is working on runit it seems. Then we can brag about freedom of choice.
By the way, without reading much about kernel development, I see this new 4.15 kernel playing with processor speed. It seems to crank it up when loaded and slowing it down for less demanding processes. This probably saves energy (laptops) and cuts down on heat (gamers with stepped up processors).
Time to put jessie to sleep, don't you think?
I think the lxde stuff is more native to openbox than lxqt stuff. Miyo can probably help out with this.
The command to fix broken dependencies is apt-get -f install
Then run your install command after this.
If nothing else works remove the pkgs causing issues from the list and do them late one at a time.
lxteminal pcmanfm lxpolkit lxsession all work well in ob
The only thing from xfce I ever liked to use was xfce-screenshot and that pulled way too many xfce dependencies to be worth my while. So I use gnome-screenshot even though I despise gnome-anything.
I also have a suspicion that sometimes repositories are partially working making pkgs unavailable, even though their release files are available. I recently tried the new refracta-ascii and between me and the refracta-man we never figured out why openrc wouldn't install in my ob.build but his retry worked fine.
I hope this answer is not too late to be of any help
I gave my refracted OpenRC eudev ascii a new-year's gift, a new kernel

happy 2018 with many miyo-ob editions

Thanks for the refractainstaller and all the good work you do.
I am open to suggestions.
Although everything seems to be running fine as is, but what is causing this I don't know.
During the time of the upgrade/switch repos were running extremely slow, not due to bad connection as everything else was fast. Could it be a temporary outage of part of the repository? ceres seemed to work faster, is it is on a separate server?
If 2-3 pkgs were temporarily not available it could cause a chain effect of a status where things were not installable. ??
experimental was left open but I don't think this could cause such a condition.
How about updates proposed and proposed updates?
Also, I am looking through with synaptic at the local list, for things installed from ceres that should not appear as having current equivalents, as locally installed, and can't find any today.
There should be a bunch that came from ceres that either don't exist or have an earlier version #.
I can't find one!
In a day or two I will go to a different machine and pretty much repeat the process and see what it does there.
Then the only explanation is that the ****.onion address repos are not what they seem to be, not equivalent to pkgmaster.
Oh, I also got linux-4.14 while I was at it.
Works like a Dodge Dart!
We are full of openbox experts here, greenjeans, miyo, fsmithred, among others.
There are some of us that are betraying the OB movement in favor of i3 and "stuff".
Miyo had made ob funkier than cinnamon before he switched to i3 and lxqt, I would call it miyo-lxde.
LXDE still stands as #1 most efficient full desktop above the minimals (i3, ob, awesome, jwm, etc).
Welcome to the crazy club. Don't expect too much seriousness here, try the list.
GoLinux is our in-keeper, beware she goes around with an electric-shock-stick and will drug you up if you misbehave.
I can supply the error list for trying to install openrc
Unless there is something drastically different between tor repos and pkgmaster (we are told they have been the same from even before the pkgmaster announcement) openrc is not installable in ascii (as per the pre-beta installation).
I followed the instructions that are on your repository /openrc and all checked out OK till the openrc installation. Too many missing dependencies.
So, I backed it up as it was, fearing a mess, and then switched/added ceres just for the openrc dependencies.
It went fine and told me to use an immidiate reboot/termination command if I was to remove sysv-rc and replace it with openrc. So, I did!
I even went back and redid a slightly different way to see the difference. No problems.
For a split second I see the Green/violet signs, then one more violet/green further down, and voila! I got ascii with OpenRC "from refracta-scratch".
Then I installed it in a stick to make a portable installation and then I made a mistake, I installed vdev to see what's up with that. I got sleepy so I started clean today.
The system collapsed, it would only give me an intiramfs prompth, or kernel panic. I almost forgot what I did last so it took me a while to notice the vdev error. Chrooted into it, removed vdev and it returned to normality.
I guess I shouldn't be messing with things I do not know (vdev).
I understand this problem between stretch-sid/ascii-ceres with no buster in between, but I have gotten comfortable in breaking and unbreaking debians over the years.
The puzzle of the uninstallable openrc remains.
Does this look right to you?

Somehow I ended up with 2.2.3-1 from ceres as ascii wasn't making them available.
Maybe a bad mirror coincidence?
This wouldn't work
gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89
gpg --export A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89 | sudo apt-key add -
I even got obmenu-generator and conky-manager running on live and when I booted everything was nice and clean.
Ascii is nowhere close to being stable, it is missing lots of stuff I think, but as long as I can grab them from ceres I won't complaint.
When I downloaded it said 0 downloads, so I am the happy 1st.
The iso was fine, I tried it into machines, one with bios, the other uefi.
My openbox and lx-tools installed quick on the live session, then I used the console refractainstaller instead of the gui for once. Worked well..
I chrooted to finish up fstab touches and remove the 4,9-03 kernel.
I then tried to add a repository that needed a gpg key and gpg was nowhere to be found on ascii. The alternative just didn't work. So I skipped into ceres and got the gnupg and gpg as well as a few associated files that weren't installable in ascii.
Weird, this didn't happen before.
End result refracta-devuan-2.0 kicks behinds!
It is unbelievable that with all the crap I loaded into the live (nearing its maximum space of 2GB??) it transfered everything so damn fast. It even carried a couple of debs that had no space to install live so I did them on metal.
Good work but what's up with gpg?
Hey, did you know what color Christa McAuliffe's eyes were?
Blew!
One blew this way the other went that way!
Christa was the first American teacher to head for space, died 73" after lift off when the Challenger BLEW!
The good thing about devuan yet is that updates are sporadic and small.
Artix/Arch is a blizzard of upgrades 2-3 times a day.
The draw back is that devuan, and lately debian too, updates seem to be taking forever compared to arch/artix/obarun
The devuan I have the least experience with is Jessie, I upgraded straight to ascii and for a while I had a ceres till I was told it is not getting worked on at this time. For a small period I suffered a hw/incompatibility problem that X related and some update magically fixed it without ever being able to locate the problem
I can't wait for beowulf
Even if we dislike i3 we still like miyo and we like to know
Miyo can even make i3 user friendly
One may never know
That vu-doo-ish conky shortcut table is a must for all i3
Personally I got a headache studying the manual and never tried it.
May it is time!
I only used the installer from pm. I had not seen the .deb
Correction,
All of the above is true for Devuan, on the same system on Artix and Obarun the palemoon updater/installer worked fine
I have been running it for a while in 3 different distros and I have been happy with it.
Today I noticed that I was about 4versions back already.
I use the pminstaller.sh since the installation and it is still the same version. I tried update and it said NO-NO.
I then tried the install and it told me I should remove the original. I did and it said it was removed. Although in the system it still showed as installed. So I tried remove so I can install from scratch. I then used apt to remove it.
So I run the installer yet again, it reached 86% and then stalled. I killed it and I run it again, starting from 0%
Finally I am back to a current PM, no sensible change. The huge firefox-esr installed in a fraction of overall time and used it to get to check if the installer is current. The PM site is not functional with dillo, a script safe browser for minimalists.
Wild ride!

You misjudge the mods here.
