#576 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Installing printer Ecotank - cannot install "LSB" » 2019-08-17 22:29:14

i would either need this package to install driver

epson-inkjet-printer-escpr
(installabe on debian)

or (lsb) > preferable > but it is not installable on devuan ascii, as it seems to conflict with (lsb-desktop)
and then i could install the proper printer driver from epson

that i don't know. i used the same "settings" as on debian where i previously could send 2 such reports succesfully (with, i suppose, let debian chose smtp-server)

#579 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » (Reportbug Error) AudioDriver / SPDIF crackling with Firefox on Ascii » 2019-07-09 11:01:53

maybe this error is related to the installed packages "llvm"  and "clang3-9". i deinstalled the programs, the amdgpu seems working nontheless, and the crackling for now seems gone.

Hello ,

i am reporting here an error that i inserted in the program "reportbug".

The reportbug failed with the error

Connecting to reportbug.debian.org via SMTP...
SMTP send failure: {'submit@bugs.devuan.org': (550, b'relay not permitted')}.
Do you want to retry (or else save the report and exit)? [Y|n|q|?]?

.........................++

This is the problem

----------

I am using a Devuan Ascii with
Linux rich-PC 4.9.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.88-1+deb9u1 (2018-05-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux

and installed upon fresh copy the AMDGPU for Radeon RX560
with

apt install firmware-linux
apt install llvm-3.9 clang-3.9

according to this hint here
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install- … etch-linux

What i noticed is that the SPDIF/Digital Audio Connection is crackling quite heavily with Firefox Quantum.

I had installed first the newer kernel 4.9.0.9 and thought this might be related to the kernel upgrade but the crackling is shown also in the stock kernel.

Might this be related to the AMDGPU?

The Audio is showing as
"HD-Audio Generic Digital Stereo (IEC598)"

Please show me how to correctly debug the error.

Thanks

Thnks , i don't know what happened, but upon a new installation of Devuan now the CD/DVD/BD-ROM is being shown correctly and recognized.

Can be Closed.

Hello ,

yesterday i wanted to watch a movie and found out that the Bluray Drive is not being recognized , not found , by Devuan.

The same drive works fine in Windows 7 and i can watch the movie.

-----
When i install Debian Stretch, it seems the drive is also not being recognized.

Today i installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and the drive is visible.

Is there something wrong with the stock Debian/Devuan CD/BDRom driver, or where could the error lie?

Thanks

#586 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » PulseAudio? Seriously!? » 2019-07-05 08:56:48

this is my favorite extension which is no longer supported by firefox quantum (although there are similar ones available, but less good functional)

https://github.com/antoniy/mpv-youtube-dl-binding

i have not heard of any big security holes in Firefox ESR; i put functionality first, and on Windows i use Kaspersky.

KDE is my favorite Linux Desktop Environment, but haven't used quite some time now, due mostly computing on Windows.
i like the functionality, but the newer Graphics (especially in Ubuntu) i found overbloat and less responsive (especialy when compared to Trusty).

EDIT: i just found another elegant mpv player that does quite the same as above similarly for firefox quantum!

#587 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » PulseAudio? Seriously!? » 2019-07-05 08:55:03

firefox : i just keep the newest versoin from repo installed (most of times) and download the .tar.gz2 from the firefox ftp archive.
then in change in about:config
xpinstall.signatures.required
xpinstall.whitelist.required
bot to "false"

and i am good to go with installing the legacy extensions.

I mostly downloaded it from their homepage with the corresponding Extension Pack for the release

#590 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » PulseAudio? Seriously!? » 2019-07-04 18:19:56

H_o_a_S .. thanks for the clarification . I am not sure if Firefox 60 ESR would still work with alsa-only, but 52 probably does. Tried apulse (for firefox and skype if i remember correctly) but i didn't seem a stable solution.
Anyway, i am still using FF52.9 ESR because some extensions i rely on are no more compatible with the newer versions of FF.

#592 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » PulseAudio? Seriously!? » 2019-07-04 10:03:02

on debian wheezy i had issue with gnome3 as removing pulseaudio would sometimes remove also gnome-core or gnome-desktop ... that was a bit  to learn that by removing such a "minor" package one could "break" a whole desktop environment.

#593 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » PulseAudio? Seriously!? » 2019-07-04 08:25:43

the newer browser like firefox 52+ and chromium to my knowledge depend on pulseaudio for audio playback.

Hello ,

i have seen some benchmark for the new upcoming Ryzen 3000 CPU and it seems that with Kernel 5+ it is very fast.

On my Zen+ running kernel 4.1+ the single core is around 4.100 and multicore around 17-18.000
With Kernel 5.+ it is 4800+ and also Higher Multicore.

I am wondering if there is also an easy upgrade program for switching kernel for Debian/Devuan as on Ubuntu (UKUU application).

Also, are there any risks in installing (prematurely?) a newer kernel that is not yet used officially by the Distro?

Hello , i have purget the Devuan for now. But am going to reinstall. Will this problem /Beowulf grub-efi-amd64-signed
be solved within July hopefully?
On Ubuntu 18.04 the driver is recognized out-of-box withouth need to install any driver. So maybe there is a Kernel-Hardware-support for it that i have overlooked on Ascii.

#596 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Installing printer Ecotank - cannot install "LSB" » 2019-07-03 09:07:58

i did upgrade to beowulf by changing "ascii" to "beowulf" and afterwards "sudo apt-get upgrade" & "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade". It installed a fair share of packages withouth error, but after reboot i was just greeted with grub console.

you can find the driver by inserting "ET-4750" in the search field

#599 Re: Installation » Installing Devuan ASCII Amd64 from DVD (full ISO) - no CD-ROM found » 2019-07-02 14:58:56

Thanks ,

also the Debian Buster failed, so i resorted to make an Usb-installer with Rufus (on Windows) or MK-USB (on Linux).

So now i am using Devuan Ascii, but i noticed some things:

1. The automatic partitionining (let Devuan choose partitioning for a m2.ssd automatically) would also change files on another NVME and the result was that Windows is no longer bootable? Could this be?
2. Updating from Devuan Ascii to Beowulf by simply changing in /etc/apt/sources.list all names "Ascii" to "Beowulf" would allow to install all packages normally with "sudo apt-get upgrade" and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" but after reboot one would be greeted by a simple grub-menu.

Hello ,

i tried to install the printerpackage for Debian Stretch on a freshly Devuan Ascii.

There is a problem because it depends on LSB.

lsb : Depends: lsb-desktop (>= 4.1+devuan2) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

How could i overcome this?

thanks
