Sorry. It's on ASCII (Miyo) with Mate. If you want anything else, please let me know.

Yes. I found out about it yesterday on a different forum.

I just noticed this today. I'm not sure if the last update caused this, or a previous one. When on the desktop, left click and hold, and drag the mouse. Before, it would dim the dragged area, but you could still see what was in it. Now, it puts a white area where you drag and you can't see anything behind it. I know I probably didn't explain this well, so here's a screenshot. Anyone else noticing this? It's not a big deal but I thought it should be reported.

I think the best way for me to go is to do a dual boot, and use Miyo since I already do the same thing with it for Mate.

BTW, does anyone know if ExeGNU's creator is a member of the forum?

Ron

Thanks for sharing MiyoLinux. I don't think I'm that brave though. It's times like this I wish I had a spare computer to experiment on.

Ron

Okay, I guess that's out. I'll have to think what I want to do.

BTW, is Exe GNU Linux no longer being maintained?

#407 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Testing Exe GNULinux / Trinity Desktop » 2018-09-25 03:13:51

Ron

Thanks for the help fsmithred. Possible last questions:

1) If I decided to dual boot with Exe GNU/Linux, how would I update it to Stretch?
2) And, how to add the correct repos for current updates?

Dual-boot first. If you want TDE on ascii, you could upgrade the exegnu or you could add TDE to a fresh ascii install. There are instructions for devuan at the TDE site. Mixing TDE with Mate in the same installation might cause some conflicts with session managers. Doing this on a test install would be the less stressful way to go.

That's what I figured . . . dual boot is safer. But it is more of an annoyance.  smile

If I decide to go ahead and do the dual boot, that leads me to another question. What is the difference between Devuan's live .iso and the installation .iso? The reason I ask is because I tried straight Devuan first before any derivatives, and the install just did not run smooth (I mean after the install, not the install process). I really don't remember if I downloaded the live .iso or the installation .iso. Could it be that if I installed from the live .iso (is that even possible?) that was the cause of it not running good?

I want to test out the Trinity Desktop and that has given me a few questions. Exe GNU/Linux uses the TDE, but the latest download for it is dated 2017-12-26. Does anyone know if this version is based on Jessie or Stretch?

Also, what do you consider to be safer: A) Installing Exe GNU/Linux next to my Miyo / Mate install as a dual boot, or B) installing Trinity on my existing Miyo / Mate install?

I see this has been split from the original thread. In that thread, that thread's OP stated he was going back to 52.9 ESR from 60 ESR. That's why I wrote about using an "old," meaning no longer supported, browser. smile

Uh...have you looked at the version histories that each one is based on?  And which ones have been unmaintained (for several years)?

Pale Moon is a TRUE fork of Firefox. Where it totally split off from Firefox is immaterial. If an update from FF applies to Pale Moon, PM gets it. It also gets its own updates independent of FF. It just had a new release a few weeks ago. Basilisk had a new release even sooner. Waterfox is also currently maintained. And I read somewhere that Iceweasel is now forked from Basilisk. I really don't understand your post.

Instead of using an old FF version why not switch to either Pale Moon, Basilisk, Waterfox, or Iceweasel?

#413 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Can't boot to live Refracta 9 disc » 2018-09-01 02:13:49

Ron

Strangely, yesterday I booted from the disc and the live boot was successful. But today it went back to not booting. ctrl-alt-F7 didn't work, but running startx did. But I'm having a problem trying the experiment I wanted to do. For some reason Synaptic Package Manger isn't working from the Recfracta 9 disc. I notice in the menu it says "alt" in parenthesis after Synaptic Package Manger. Does that stand for "alternate," like an experimental version or something? When I try to start it, it asks for a password. I use the one given on Sourceforge but it doesn't work.

/var/log/live/boot & /var/log/live/config are both dated from May, but /var/log/Xorg.0.log is dated from today, so here it is. If you still want the other two, let me know. I'll try your suggestions tomorrow as it's past my bed time.

Push enter, maybe.

That didn't help.

Though there seems to be some problem with the network module.

Is there anything I can do about that?

I don't get this problem. I can boot from the Refracta 8 disc fine, and from the Miyo 9 disc also. Just not Refracta 9. hmm

I wanted to do some testing so I downloaded Refracta 9 (refracta9_xfce_amd64_beta2-20180419_2114.iso) and burned it to a disc. When trying to boot from it, all seems to go well until the very end when everything just stops. I tried it twice and it stops at the same place. Here's a pic of where it stops. (Yes, I did verify the download.)

Thanks MiyoLinux. I'm testing it out now.

EDIT
It works great. It's now my go-to app for label printing.

Is there any app in the repos that can print out labels, e.g., Avery address labels? I prefer not to use LibreOffice, and it doesn't appear that AbiWord supports label printing.

Somebody else on another forum is also having problems with this site. It looks like this new video site needs to find some new people who know how to make a website.

Can anyone tell me if the mate-tweak configuration tool gives Mate more functionality, or just the same functionality in one convenient place?

Thanks ML! So I ran the codes you gave. What exactly did they do?
