All these years, I thought it was the default that was shoved down clueless user's throats.  wink  But to each his own  In any case, this is a useful contribution for those who want to go there so thank you for that.

*edit*  Maybe you could copy everything from your personal repo to git.devuan.org.  That way things could get packaged for devuan.

Those who are doing the work (other than the derivatives) rarely frequent this forum so they'll never see the bitching.  But yes, it is childish and demonstrating a lack of understanding of all the moving parts that need to be coordinated.   That being said . . . it has been more than frustrating that things ground to a halt last month while those in EU were on 'holiday' and disheartening that things haven't started to pick up now that September is here . . .

Why would anyone even want jessie now that debian 9 has been released?

Because it's boringly stable and trouble-free.  I will likely run it till 2020 eol.

We need to work on jessie too granted, but ascii is more important in my opinion.

No new work is being done on jessie except for a few lingering pkgs in jessie-proposed.  All attention is now focused on ascii.  It's just that there hasn't been much focusing lately with August vacations etc.  I keep hoping for some action . . .

I remember at one recent version change Mozilla decided to "require" pulseaudio - and so apulse was born, to fake it, sort of.

IIRC apulse was originally conceived to fix skype audio but now adapted to firefox.

Ah, thanks for clarifying.  My concern was indeed that you were using that to set up a public mirror and that seemed like a rather odd first post.  Enjoy your time here.  Hope we're all good now that that's been straightened out.  smile

#3058 Re: Off-topic » Finally a free software GNU/Linux phone? » 2017-08-29 15:49:03

@fungus . . . Even though I said that on the DNG mailing list, I did not have the ability AT THAT TIME to do so.  Please stop repeating "alternate facts".  You are only a victim of your own behavior.  IOW you are doing it to yourself.

Have you ever read this forum's (almost) No Code of Conduct?  In light of that, I am sadly locking this thread.  If you persist, you will enjoy a 'time out' from posting on this forum.

#3059 Re: Documentation » Make a mirror of devuan package repository with a modified debmirror » 2017-08-29 07:43:54

You are jumping the gun here.  Package mirrors will need to be set up in a specific way.  Please wait for the official instructions.

In the meantime this might be instructive:

#3060 Re: Off-topic » Finally a free software GNU/Linux phone? » 2017-08-29 07:31:09

OK, fungus . . . here is an answer for you.  Phrases like "a market bourgeois system" and "idealistic neoliberalism" are ideological concepts.   And the last para is an empty rant of emotional, judgmental opinions and buzzwords that have no place here or in any rational discussion.  The world is the world.  It spins as it will.  Adding to the strife accomplishes nothing.  It just feeds the beast.  Please don't drag this forum (and by association the Devuan project) down into the cesspool.

No, it isn't. It's just hidden with a white font color.  Cursor magic will make it appear (no lemon juice needed).

#3062 Re: Off-topic » Finally a free software GNU/Linux phone? » 2017-08-29 01:31:37

Please curb your imagination!  I did NOT remove you from the DNG list.  At that time I did not even have the ability to do so.

More on the questions you asked above a bit later . . .

Apologies.  I thought you might want the list like it would be in terminal.  I didn't look at what the fields permitted.  That seems a bit general though.  HOW would be like me to use them?

The link to BBCode is the first just below this input window

#3064 Re: Off-topic » Finally a free software GNU/Linux phone? » 2017-08-28 23:38:46

fungus . . . this forum is not the place for you (or anyone else) to spew personal ideology.  An edit could save your post from being sequestered elsewhere.   If other forum users find it appropriate, I may reconsider . . .

#3065 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Wicd/system-wide permissions? » 2017-08-28 23:28:04

OMG!   That's a mess.  Please use BBCode tags.  They are all just over the input box.

#3066 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Microphone not found by ALSA » 2017-08-26 04:58:48

I can barely read those colors but i can see that I have more than twice as many options available.   First suggestion  would be to hit F5 to see all the options, unless of course you've removed all but the ones in the image.  (I would have no idea how to do that)  Second would be to disable auto-mute.

#3067 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Microphone not found by ALSA » 2017-08-26 04:09:37

I assume that you've checked all the open/closed/muted channels in alsamixer?

RE: friendsofdevuan wiki     [mostly for @golinux or @jaromil]

FTR, the wiki is hosted by FlibberTGibbet.  msi (with feedback from me) has recently done a major reorganization that is still very  much in process.   Jaromil is not involved.

golinux wrote in #1

Contribute RTFM stuff - Documentation and/or translations in any language are needed. Contributions could go into <https://friendsofdevuan.org/doku.php>

the 'contact' page is empty

So it is!  The wiki was recently restructured and obviously the linkage to that page was broken.  I'll try to get that fixed.  I have also updated the links to the wiki in this thread.

How would I submit info to the wiki

Have you registered yet?  Be aware  that approval is a manual process because of the volume of spam to the site.   Items coming from Dev1Galaxy most likely should go into the Community Documentation area of the wiki but the new landing page is not set up yet.

-- there are tidbits scattered all over DNG and dev1galaxy
that might fit into the structure of the wiki.  In someways it is a condensed version of dev1galaxy
without the 'experimentation/errors' and such

Very true.  And we have envisioned something like that but progress has been at a snail's pace.

looking forward -- Devuan is getting bigger - I noticed more requests for info that isn't Devuan related!!!

Hopefully we will continue to grow both in the number of users as well as packagers and developers.  I see you are taking on d1h.  Good for you!
