@fsmithred . . . FYI from https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=5061#p5061
et, zut, je me suis rendu compte qu'il aurait fallu passer par l'installeur de Debian. alors, c'est fini, car je n'utilise ni CD ni clef USB sur mon système
Translated:
and, damn, I realized that it would have been necessary to go through the installer of Debian. then, it is finished, because I do not use CD or USB key on my system
@gdager.. subscribe to git.devuan.org and use the git.devuan.org oauth integration... gitlab has a session expiry of days iirc...
This on irc before I woke up with some spelling, mathematical corrections and annotation:
<rrq> [05:54:24] by a brief scan of the source: there are 3 expiration times in play:
<rrq> [05:55:43] 1) after registration and profile update, there's only a short expiration time (3 minutes)
<rrq> [05:55:59] 2) after password login, the expiration time is 14 days
<rrq> [05:56:18] 3) with gdo login, the expiration time is a year.
<rrq> [05:56:27] all that is for the session cookie validity
<rrq> [05:56:59] (actually, 1 is 1800 seconds = 30 minutes)
<rrq> [05:57:36] then there's the inactivity timeout of 300 seconds. And I think that's what they grumble about.
<rrq> [06:00:26] (actually 2 is only if you tick the "keep me logged in" option; otherwise it's 1800 seconds)
<rrq> [06:02:41] with some modern browsers, one can convince it to juggle the required password on demand, seamlessly, under the hood, and seemingly stay logged in indefinitely. [This is my experience but I am here a lot - golinux]
<rrq> [06:03:50] anyhow, it's the inactivity timeout that makes it a problem to procrastinate while authoring.
<rrq> [06:08:36] "The average person types between 38 and 40 words per minute.." (google tells me)
<fsmithred> [06:12:51] typing is not activity?
<rrq> [06:13:42] if you type really hard, it might bounce through the server
<fsmithred> [06:14:24] lol
<rrq> [06:14:36] no; "inactivity time" is the time difference between two server interactions.
<fsmithred> [06:14:48] yahoo chat used to tell you when the person you were talking to was typing
<fsmithred> [06:15:29] why would the dude's preview button be missing?
<rrq> [06:16:20] it probably just was below the window edge.
<rrq> [06:20:08] But it's terribly easy to change the inactivity timeout from 300 to any other number of seconds.
<fsmithred> [06:20:34] five minutes is too short
<rrq> [06:21:16] an hour?
<fsmithred> [06:21:51] I was thinking 15 minutes, but that might be too short, too.
<fsmithred> [06:22:08] takes me longer than that sometimes
<fsmithred> [06:22:53] but I learned long ago not to expect to stay logged in when I'm replying. Been bitten by that at lots of forums.
<rrq> [06:23:28] now I realised 1800 is half an hour... I'll make it 1800 ...
<fsmithred> [06:23:44] that's good
@gdager . . . One solution would be to opt to stay logged in and then logout when you're finished. Another would be for you to provide a patch to provide that function and ask us to implement it. But if you'd rather storm off in a snit so be it. Would you like me to delete your account? In the meantime, how about a 'time out'.
My experience is like @nobodyuknow - the cd rom stays enabled - and there are two lines
one is commented out and the other right below it.
I just took it as part of the cd install
Interesting that no one has stumbled on that before . . . at least that I can remember.
[that being said - I usually choose not network install as I feel the CD loads the basic system
faster than downloading.
' then I comment the "cdrom" source and get the rest via the standard locations
That is a good plan when using the DVD install. Not such a good idea when using the CD install as there are not enough packages on the CD to create a fully functional system.
@nobodyuknow . . . Good news that you got it sorted. Since this issue has not been reported before (surely it would have been by now), have you considered that maybe rufus added that extra line when it created the usb?
Yes, and systemd-sysv is installed; Synaptic says that's what indicates systemd takeover.
Network-manager-applet looks useful. Any salvageable parts?
network-manager for devuan is already available in jessie-proposed.
What exactly did you install? What iso did you use?
If it is Devuan, make sure these repos are enabled in your sources.list
deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged jessie main
deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged jessie-updates main
deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged jessie-security mainAnd comment the entry for CD-ROM.
That would be the way to do it on a legitimate Devuan installation. I looked at Rufus - never heard of it before. So who knows. Anything that mentions Windoze, I run the other way . . .
Hello
Is it possible to implement the openbox Nightmare theme in XFCE? https://www.google.fr/search?q=nightmar … HVHC1qukM:
It comes with the Openbox configuration manager in Openbox, LXDE and LXQT but I have never been able to install it in other DE.
Thanks
Xfce doesn't understand openbox theming. I know because I adapted the Clearlooks Phenix Purpy color theme for openbox. Completely different animal. You would have to find a theme that works with Xfce and reverse engineer the colors. To get the layout like that be prepared to drill down deeply into the theme structure. I dipped a toe there and it was more than I wanted to take on.
shwsh, did you do this on jessie, ascii or ceres? 3.24.3-1 is in buster/sid.
Info in the image's terminal says ceres
As you all gnow, GNOME, the pinnacle of desktop GUI design . . .
All these years, I thought it was the default that was shoved down clueless user's throats.
But to each his own In any case, this is a useful contribution for those who want to go there so thank you for that.
*edit* Maybe you could copy everything from your personal repo to git.devuan.org. That way things could get packaged for devuan.
Not gonna push the VUA's to do things any faster by making posts demanding they hurry up or by belittling the work they've already done, just gonna piss 'em off . . .
Those who are doing the work (other than the derivatives) rarely frequent this forum so they'll never see the bitching. But yes, it is childish and demonstrating a lack of understanding of all the moving parts that need to be coordinated. That being said . . . it has been more than frustrating that things ground to a halt last month while those in EU were on 'holiday' and disheartening that things haven't started to pick up now that September is here . . .
Why would anyone even want jessie now that debian 9 has been released?
Because it's boringly stable and trouble-free. I will likely run it till 2020 eol.
We need to work on jessie too granted, but ascii is more important in my opinion.
No new work is being done on jessie except for a few lingering pkgs in jessie-proposed. All attention is now focused on ascii. It's just that there hasn't been much focusing lately with August vacations etc. I keep hoping for some action . . .
Did you update from an older version?
I remember at one recent version change Mozilla decided to "require" pulseaudio - and so apulse was born, to fake it, sort of.
IIRC apulse was originally conceived to fix skype audio but now adapted to firefox.
Not sure how your ~ (home) is setup - but I noticed my.xsession-errors was upto 6.8Mb !!
You are not alone! https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=1515 Mine is already back up to 30mb.
Ah, thanks for clarifying. My concern was indeed that you were using that to set up a public mirror and that seemed like a rather odd first post. Enjoy your time here. Hope we're all good now that that's been straightened out. ![]()
@fungus . . . Even though I said that on the DNG mailing list, I did not have the ability AT THAT TIME to do so. Please stop repeating "alternate facts". You are only a victim of your own behavior. IOW you are doing it to yourself.
Have you ever read this forum's (almost) No Code of Conduct? In light of that, I am sadly locking this thread. If you persist, you will enjoy a 'time out' from posting on this forum.
You are jumping the gun here. Package mirrors will need to be set up in a specific way. Please wait for the official instructions.
In the meantime this might be instructive:
OK, fungus . . . here is an answer for you. Phrases like "a market bourgeois system" and "idealistic neoliberalism" are ideological concepts. And the last para is an empty rant of emotional, judgmental opinions and buzzwords that have no place here or in any rational discussion. The world is the world. It spins as it will. Adding to the strife accomplishes nothing. It just feeds the beast. Please don't drag this forum (and by association the Devuan project) down into the cesspool.
Fungus, I can't comment on post #11 because the text is gone.
No, it isn't. It's just hidden with a white font color. Cursor magic will make it appear (no lemon juice needed).
Please curb your imagination! I did NOT remove you from the DNG list. At that time I did not even have the ability to do so.
More on the questions you asked above a bit later . . .
fungus . . . this forum is not the place for you (or anyone else) to spew personal ideology. An edit could save your post from being sequestered elsewhere. If other forum users find it appropriate, I may reconsider . . .
OMG! That's a mess. Please use BBCode tags. They are all just over the input box.
I can barely read those colors but i can see that I have more than twice as many options available. First suggestion would be to hit F5 to see all the options, unless of course you've removed all but the ones in the image. (I would have no idea how to do that) Second would be to disable auto-mute.
I assume that you've checked all the open/closed/muted channels in alsamixer?
