I just planted a fall garden (possible here) and revel in the wild nature surrounding (which is rapidly shrinking - more refugee critters arrive daily).  And local activism is still working here.  We tied Alcoa's stripmine and water grab up in knots for years and now the smelter is shut down.  Did the same to an airport developer for 5 years ongoing - never broke ground.  Last year it took only 3 months of dealing with us for a sludger to withdraw the application that would surely have resulted in the pollution of a major aquifer outcropping and Colorado river floodplain.  I'm getting too old for this . . .

I (and others) always get 'ignores' on translation files.  If it's something else please do provide more details.  All the mirrors had been infected with this error so some may be lingering.  Do keep an eye out . . .

You caught us in our weekly meet.  Thanks for catching that bug.  It's fixed!

@fungus . . . I don't see a political or social solution because . . . people are people stupidly grubbing after whatever it is that they crave in the moment and power never goes quietly.  By the time people wake up it will be too late and we'll all be crawling out of the rubble.  Our infestation on this planet needs a culling anyway . . .

The only escape is an individual one knowing that it has ever been thus and ever will be.  I finally made peace with that hard reality but it's taken 75 years (including nearly four of them in silent meditation 24/7) to get there.

It's  not.  FluxBB which Arch also uses is a fork of PunBB.   The Arch forum does not have a search box.  So who knows if there is a plugin available.   Let's see what Ralph says - it would have to go through him . . .

Dear Dev1rs,

Because Devuan is growing and needs more hands on deck to make and execute important decisions, Devuan's lead development team has grown from three to five. This decision evolved over several weeks of discussion.

Original LEADs: nextime, jaromil and Centurion_Dan

New team: jaromil, Centurion_Dan, KatolaZ, Evilham and rrq

The group decided, from the options suggested, that they will be collectively referred to as the 'Caretakers'.  Their responsibilities include attending to maintenance of the infrastructure and facilitating and improving the availability of Devuan to its users. The website's Team page will soon reflect the changes.

nextime, while maintaining infrastructure and being available for emergencies is currently not participating in the day-to-day operations entrusted to the Caretakers.

The Caretakers have been working well together and with renewed energy on the task of releasing ASCII 2.0 as soon as possible in order to sync with Debian's release schedule.

#2938 Re: Forum Feedback » [Discussed] Documentation Section » 2017-11-04 21:52:35

I posted some documentation in this thread which should give you an idea of the number of devuan packages vs debian.  Please correct if there are errors.

#2939 Re: Forum Feedback » [Discussed] Documentation Section » 2017-11-04 17:59:45

The wiki and handbook (manual) are being developed at friendsofdevuan.org.  There is no need to duplicate on this forum.

Apart from that . . . All those items are forms of documentation so the list is not logically constructed.

#2940 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Problems with the multimedia player VLC [Solved] » 2017-11-04 16:01:04

@cynwulf . . . you can get a better idea of which packages have been forked from this page.  The Devuan Packages are those that have been specifically altered.

In addition there is a blacklist.  Here is the one for ascii

And these are the libsystemd packages in ascii which "shouldn't have to be forked at this point, since the library doesn't do anything if systemd is not there" (parazyd).  Of course would be cleaner to have the detritus removed.  All repackaging volunteers welcome!

So you can see that a LOT is going on that makes this a little more than just another derivative.  wink

#2941 Re: Forum Feedback » [Discussed] Documentation Section » 2017-11-04 15:29:38

I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting or what you tried to google.  FluxBB does not have sub-forum capability.  There is already cross-seeding between this forum and the the Friends of Devuan wiki.  And as yet there is no Devuan Handbook.

#2942 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Virtualbox guest additions - not working (Ascii) » 2017-11-04 03:05:19

Try ascii backports.  It is in Debian stretch backports so should be in ascii's.

Good lawwwddd....

So it would seem that Devuan will effectively still be a "derivative" rather than a fork for the next release.  It doesn't surprise me, as I've always thought that completely forking an entire distribution, especially one the size of Debian, was going to be a momentous task.

Devuan has forked major parts of Debian relating to systemd.  Most of Debian repos remain unaffected and do not need to be forked at this time.  In the future we may decide to host all those unaffected packages in a Devuan repo but for now merging with Debian is a more efficient way to do it.

Which is why I said equivalent to "testing" rather than any release code name.

"equivalent to the Debian testing branch" doesn't say that to me.  wink  Maybe "which is equivalent to Debian Stretch but still undergoing testing to systemd-free compatible environment"

Is ASCII based directly on the stretch repositories then...?  I thought that after jessie, Devuan would go it a lone and develop a true fork?

Yes ascii is based more than 90% on Debian repos and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

You're also running "ASCII" which is the equivalent to the Debian testing branch.  This is not a finished, stable release.

Not exactly.  We are lagging behind the Debian cycle a bit.  Ascii is equivalent to Debian Stretch which is now a stable release.  Current Debian testing is Buster which will be our Beowulf once ascii stable is released.   wink

#2947 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Problems with the multimedia player VLC [Solved] » 2017-11-02 20:52:49

If it's not "free", it's because of what you've added to it.  wink   A default Devuan install is indeed free software.

#2948 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Problems with the multimedia player VLC [Solved] » 2017-11-02 17:51:01

I suggested trying the wheezy version - Twoflower.   Might be worth a try since it seems you're kind of at the end of the road . . .

#2949 Re: Other Issues » (SOLVED) Systemd Library in Ascii » 2017-11-01 16:47:23

Ha!  Wasn't expecting this!

$ aptitude why libpulse0
i   qemu-system-x86 Depends libpulse0 (>= 0.99.1)

#2950 Re: Other Issues » (SOLVED) Systemd Library in Ascii » 2017-11-01 16:17:32

$ aptitude why libsystemd0
i   libpulse0 Depends libsystemd0

I think that vlc might need that.  pulseaudio is not installed.  But that's on jessie and Lydia_K cleared out most systemd deps.  Rinse and repeat needed for ascii
