Thinking is a trap that will only give you a headache. Be here now and you might just find that things are quite something else . . .
@fungus . . . I give up. We are obviously talking past each other because our points of reference are in parallel universes.
(and you'd rather argue than listen)
Dear Dev1rs,
This email is to announce that the Devuan gitlab server at
git.devuan.org will be unreachable due to planned maintenance in the
following time slot:

The downtime is part of the undergoing consolidation plan of the
Devuan infrastructure. We will do everything possible to reduce the
disruption to a minimum, and will promptly post here updates on the
ongoing operations.
Thanks in advance for your patience, and sorry again for any
inconvenience caused.

Hell I do that on 70 degree days. Usually sipping a beer.
At 70 degrees, I'm in a hoodie and down vest. ![]()
GoLi Would you agree that if you spend too long fighting evil, you choose to fight it, you eventually turn to just as evil?
This makes no sense to me. There are only problems/puzzles and solutions. When there is no possible solution, the best course of action is to move on.
Definitely some of those obvious, maybe to you, things have lost their way into later generations.
There is truth in this. Instant gratification and propaganda lower the bar for clear thinking and assessment of situations.
One of my favorite poets ends her poem saying that the final goal is to remain human.
To be 'human' is by definition is to be 'flawed' ie. filled with conflicting impulses. Until that is sorted with very careful observation there is no clarity, peace or end to the misery.
It takes being hurt, cold, hungry, and thirsty to realize what you really need and what you don't.
This is so true. And that's what it will take for our consumer culture to wake up. It's going to be some ride when reality sets in . . .
PS. I have some beautiful wild 'shrooms in the woods.
Do you care if neighbors inquire at your smelly yard due to your composting, which I am willing to bet you do?
Well, I don't compost but what I've had to deal with over the years exceeds what I put out hands down.
Do you care getting dirty looks for picking up leave and weed cutting bags from the garbage area taking it back home?
Not a bit. I am a scrounger sometimes by the side of the road etc. I recycle and reuse others' trash in creative ways.
How about undressing outside so you don't drag all the tear gas contaminated clothing back in the house?
LOL. After a sweaty day in 100 degree heat, I often strip on the front porch. But there's not much traffic on the road and I can hear it coming. ![]()
But going back to your initial question, what happens to me is unimportant.
In the end none of 'this' matters a whit. All that matters is the quality of our thoughts, speech and actions and most importantly, the generating force behind them..
I can only see important what society perceives as important, whether bad or good by my judgement. If you were out defending whales, would that be about you, or about what you believe as a necessity for whales to survive the human slaughtering. You can choose to keep on sailing or you can fire that torpedo you are carrying around to that Japanese ship.
That's where we part ways. ![]()
Do we really have a choice not to participate in all this while living in an urban environment?
Everything we say, think or do is a choice. And all those choices have consequences so best to choose wisely. It is an internal process. That being said, if I were in an urban environment I would be living the same way I do in nature but the latter is of course more pleasant.
I say it is so hard and you end up being so antisocial and isolated that it still does not matter if you could. You then have to prove you exist.
What? no cell phone, no facebook, no bus, just feet and bicycle, get away from me you pervert!
Why do you care how people perceive you? The only one who has to live with your decisions is YOU!
LOL! I would probably echo that sentiment if I was a part of it. I decided long ago that I'd rather be dead than suffer the indignity so I'm not a victim. I'm just an observer looking on with horror. ![]()
5) The "Military Industrial Complex" - short version: war is good for the economy (so long as it's not fought in your back yard)
You forgot the other MIC - the "MEDICAL Industrial Complex" equally as toxic and deadly . . .
And yet, I still plant trees, and I still tend my garden.
I just planted a fall garden (possible here) and revel in the wild nature surrounding (which is rapidly shrinking - more refugee critters arrive daily). And local activism is still working here. We tied Alcoa's stripmine and water grab up in knots for years and now the smelter is shut down. Did the same to an airport developer for 5 years ongoing - never broke ground. Last year it took only 3 months of dealing with us for a sludger to withdraw the application that would surely have resulted in the pollution of a major aquifer outcropping and Colorado river floodplain. I'm getting too old for this . . .
I think it was in 1970 that I decided not to bring any children into the world, and I haven't.
I had that figured out long before then . . .
As an ecologist (research and teaching) for most of my entire adult life, I don't feel great hope. It really does look like we are going to eat the planet.
Mother nature is fighting back but no one is listening.
Interesting stuff for a thread entitled "lol!"...
We are not braindead clones. ![]()
My point is that it can never evolve into a fairer, juster society, free of poverty and corruption - only the reverse until it's final implosion.
Exactly what I said a few posts up. We are definitely on the downside of the curve. It's been all downhill since the 60s and 70s. There were shadows of what was to come even then but life was good . . .
Dear Dev1rs,
just to let you know that the maintainance on dev1galaxy.org is now
complete (Thu. 9th Nov 2017 22:08). The server is up and running
again.
Thanks for your patience.

Veni, vidi, velcro - I came, I saw, I stuck around :-)
Oh, happy day! I remember not long ago when it seemed that might not have been an option for you. Soooo happy that you've stuck around . . .
I'm still getting a few "ignores", but nothing like before. Thank you again!
I (and others) always get 'ignores' on translation files. If it's something else please do provide more details. All the mirrors had been infected with this error so some may be lingering. Do keep an eye out . . .
You caught us in our weekly meet. Thanks for catching that bug. It's fixed!
@fungus . . . I don't see a political or social solution because . . . people are people stupidly grubbing after whatever it is that they crave in the moment and power never goes quietly. By the time people wake up it will be too late and we'll all be crawling out of the rubble. Our infestation on this planet needs a culling anyway . . .
The only escape is an individual one knowing that it has ever been thus and ever will be. I finally made peace with that hard reality but it's taken 75 years (including nearly four of them in silent meditation 24/7) to get there.
(apologies, quite a few edits and no doubt violated golinux's post length guidelines)
You're in rare form today. Classic. Some typos though which I'm tempted to correct. Post limits? Nah . . .
This forum looks like a fork of the SMF forum which always had a search window on the top-right
It's not. FluxBB which Arch also uses is a fork of PunBB. The Arch forum does not have a search box. So who knows if there is a plugin available. Let's see what Ralph says - it would have to go through him . . .
Dear Dev1rs,
Because Devuan is growing and needs more hands on deck to make and execute important decisions, Devuan's lead development team has grown from three to five. This decision evolved over several weeks of discussion.
Original LEADs: nextime, jaromil and Centurion_Dan
New team: jaromil, Centurion_Dan, KatolaZ, Evilham and rrq
The group decided, from the options suggested, that they will be collectively referred to as the 'Caretakers'. Their responsibilities include attending to maintenance of the infrastructure and facilitating and improving the availability of Devuan to its users. The website's Team page will soon reflect the changes.
nextime, while maintaining infrastructure and being available for emergencies is currently not participating in the day-to-day operations entrusted to the Caretakers.
The Caretakers have been working well together and with renewed energy on the task of releasing ASCII 2.0 as soon as possible in order to sync with Debian's release schedule.
The Dev1Devs
And make that three with me!
I posted some documentation in this thread which should give you an idea of the number of devuan packages vs debian. Please correct if there are errors.
The wiki and handbook (manual) are being developed at friendsofdevuan.org. There is no need to duplicate on this forum.
Apart from that . . . All those items are forms of documentation so the list is not logically constructed.
@cynwulf . . . you can get a better idea of which packages have been forked from this page. The Devuan Packages are those that have been specifically altered.
In addition there is a blacklist. Here is the one for ascii.
And these are the libsystemd packages in ascii which "shouldn't have to be forked at this point, since the library doesn't do anything if systemd is not there" (parazyd). Of course would be cleaner to have the detritus removed. All repackaging volunteers welcome!
So you can see that a LOT is going on that makes this a little more than just another derivative. ![]()
I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting or what you tried to google. FluxBB does not have sub-forum capability. There is already cross-seeding between this forum and the the Friends of Devuan wiki. And as yet there is no Devuan Handbook.
Try ascii backports. It is in Debian stretch backports so should be in ascii's.
