#2501 Re: Other Issues » Firestarter » 2018-06-28 14:28:48

I joined the firestarter mail list back is 2007.  Used it on Squeeze.  It worked well but has been dead for a very, very long time.

Beowulf is not ready for primetime yet.  Especially on the Desktop.

#2504 Re: Installation » chromebook solved: » 2018-06-27 22:11:11

@1init . . . Welcome to the forum now that you were finally able to register.    That is a very useful first post!  Persistence always wins the day with Linux, doesn't it.  LOL!

I only have one suggestion.  Above the input box, there is a list of tags available to help format posts.  Your presentation would benefit from the use of code tags like this:

sudo xzcat devuan_ascii_2.0.0_armhf_chromeacer.img.xz | sudo dd of=REPLACEME bs=2M

I was delighted to see that mate-power-manager was finally available for ascii. Installed it to find that there is no option for 'suspend' for power button or suspend button action. pm-suspend works fine - why doesn't mate-power-manager off it as an option? Every night I have to type 'sudo pm-suspend' at the command line to put my computer to sleep...

Bash history is good for executing repetitive commands (up arrow).  You might also create an alias for that.  Best would be to fix the bug though . . .

We're working on a Dev1Voyager blog atm.  An homage to the first Star Trek movie and NASA . . .

Hey ozi . . . Congrats!  I like the Kirk thing!!  Spock next?

#2509 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Firefox Oddities » 2018-06-27 00:43:14

Firefox has become the most odd of oddities.  LOL!  Try disabling all your extensions to see if the problem goes away. If it does, start re-enabling them one at a time to find the culprit.  If disabling extensions doesn't stop that behavior,  create a new Moziila profile.  If that stops it, a corrupted profile is likely the problem.  .You can also test by logging into Devuan as another user.   If it goes away, Firefox is OK and it's something with the affected user.

#2510 Re: Installation » Black Screen on Devuan Ascii - acpi=off solves it (undesirable) » 2018-06-26 17:03:56

Things changed in stretch.  Thank Debian.  IIRC it had something to do with wayland.

#2512 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] Can't open Bleachbit as root from start menu » 2018-06-25 01:39:08

Sounds like the pkexec bug.  You can get some pointers from this DNG thread.   I use gksu to launch root apps to get around this..

Hello,

The question is essentially just what the title is asking: is there any way to directly install Ceres/Unstable?

No.  There are no ceres isos.  AFAIK, you'll have to do it via an upgrade.  Maybe someone else will have another idea for you.

I assume that you mean Devuan Jessie is now under oldstable status? Please, correct if I am wrong.

I wasn't aware of that but according to this page yes.

Debian Jessie oldstable support has now ended and it is now under the LTS program, not provided by Debian security team, but by third parties.

If possible, I'd just like a clarification on how this works currently for Devuan.
Is there a Devuan security team that provides security updates for Jessie currently under oldstable release? Or do the security updates come mirrored from the Debian LTS program?
Will there be an LTS program for Devuan Jessie too, which will extend beyond the Debian Jessie's LTS?

We follow the Debian LTS cycle as described on this page.  The LTS upgrades applied to Debian will be available in the Devuan Jessie repos as they have always been.

I guess you could post in the after Ascii wishlist thread but your best chances would probably be to follow the official packaging guide and volunteer to maintain those packages yourself.

^ ^ ^ This. ^ ^ ^   The devs have their hands quite full maintaining critical system packages.  But do post a request and maybe those with similar inclinations would band together to help maintain those packages.

#2518 Re: Other Issues » Wifi and HDMI upgrade issues » 2018-06-22 05:15:01

It should work if you follow the upgrade instructions carefully and have the correct repos enabled.

#2520 Re: Other Issues » Wifi and HDMI upgrade issues » 2018-06-22 05:03:03

Did you study the Release Notes before trying to upgrade?

#2523 Re: Installation » Network booting » 2018-06-19 15:33:42

Maybe try #devuan-arm on freenode.

#2524 Re: Forum Feedback » *Resolved*_How do I find something here? » 2018-06-19 04:26:50

Try refining your search.  There are three categories:

Keyword search - plasma or KDE etc.  I sometimes add a space at the end of a search word

Select where to search - Maybe start with checking Desktop and Multimedia and/or Installation

Select how to view search results: you might want to Show results as Posts instead of Topics

@Miyo . . . you are my hero!!  LOLOLOL!!!

But seriously . . . reports of observed dickheadism by any available method - report, Forum Feedback, email, smoke signal etc. - would certainly be helpful to the d1g administrators.

@ralph.ronnquist . . . regardless of the attribution, the pattern is hijack - antagonize - publicize - victimize
