Like many of you I've tried various flavors of Linux distros, mostly Debian based ones for me, and have seen XFCE look and feel pretty much the same in all those. Kind of a late 90's vibe but very functional.
How is the Devuan default of XFCE look so darn good? I'm on Excalibur btw. Is it a custom theme or something? I like it better than most heavy DEs I've tried. I'm still two weeks in on my honeymoon phase but so far I really like this deployment.
Some examples...
Upper left drop down is cleaner than most XFCEs which try to bloat the launcher box. The icon choices are familiar but I don't remember them in XFCE previously. Were they from Plasma? The frames, the tone and the speed all just match. Normally XFCE attempts look like grandmas quilt.
I'm pulling down all the distros I like and storing them before they are corrupted (even though some have betrayed). So far Devuan + OpenRC for me is rock solid and works excellent for my server setups and I can see daily driving being great as well.
I may pull down all the debs I need in my core configurations before those get co-opted by whatever evil crap is occurring as well. I'm prepared to weather the storm in my own little ecosystem. Probably have VMs act as the "outside world" in the long run while I keep living in a 2025 technobubble.
Happily donated recently and I'm very impressed with the OpenRC implementation. Super stable.
I just want to say THANK YOU!!!! I'm also very sad I spent 3 days doing a bunch of random chatgpt instructions that all made sense on the surface.
