Thank you for all the replies. All is now as it should be.

I am not sure anymore what happended, but I did notice the missing buttons after the installed update which was given with the notifications. And I know for sure that I did not play with the Titlebar settings. The "Gnome" setting will produce only the "Close Button".
My system is a new net-install of Chimaera. And all other additional 3 installs have had no problem. Still not sure what I did.

Anyways, I did some screenshots...but how do I get those into the message, as there is no upload in this board? Do I have to load them externally with the img tag?

changing the grub settings were all done with root. Sorry that I didn't mention that.
The actual error message is not saying anything at all.

Hello All,

just installed a third Devuan4 system along with WIN10. So far so good and all is working as expected. Get my boot menu with Devuan and Win10 to choose from.

Just wanted to set the timeout from 5 to 20 seconds. Got that working as root with nano in /etc/default/grub Saved and wanted to do: # update-grub but got "bash not known" message. So a No-Go.

Had read this https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=4699 . Not sure if this applies, as grub is presenting me with both OSes.

So how can I update grub ? Using different file or be fast with tapping a key ?

ok, found how to switch Themes.

No matter which Theme out of my 7 I choose, no minimize/maximize buttons.
And changing "Window Borders" doesn't change anything either.

Still stuck.

No idea as it just showed in "Notification" Important security updates, download and restart. Not used to that in Devuan 3 as I did my upgrades with the terminal.

Hello All,

after my new upgrade from Devuan3 to Devuan4 with Cinnamon Desktop 2 days back I got a note for a important software update. So I did and noticed later that my maximize and minimize buttons are gone.

Having an additional same Desktop running, I locked on to that one and got as well the update note. Did not install the update. All my window buttons are still luckily there.

Anyone else having this ?
How can I get the buttons back ?
I searched the internet for 2 hours but all the suggestions in regards to gnome-tweaks did not bring results. Hopefully someone here could help me out.

Hello people,

I am lost with my fresh new install of Devuan Jessie.
Network configuration for eth0 is static with all entries.
ifconfig -a shows the correct info, IP, Netmask, gateway
after reboot all is lost
ifup --force eth0 will read the configuration and after that
ifconfig -a shows again the correct info
reboot and all is gone and starting all over.
Even with /etc/init.d/networking restart same result

This is reproducable.

This should be my replacement for Debian 8 as webserver machine, so ???? what do I have to look for ?

Any help appreciated.

That's a feature, not a fatal error. Internal scanning will work for some time yet.
When you install grub, it wants to consult /etc/mtab, which is missing in the chroot, since all the mounts happened and were recorded in the /etc/mtab outside the chroot.
/etc/mtab is not usually a file any more, its a symbolic link.

As said earlier, this is a fresh install and I chose the LVM option at graphical install. And I finished with my desktop install using the xfce desktop.

Hello,

just new to Devuan with a fresh ASCII desktop install. Installation went smooth and after the first reboot I got the following warning message at boot time.

"Warning": Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to internal scanning.

Booting is otherwise fine without any hick-ups. Too new to "try" something to get this message to disappear.
Any suggestions ?
