This year, work on AVMultimedia could only be progressed to a limited extent due to a stay abroad. A new version is now available with the 2023/XI release.

The programs LosslessCut, JDownloader2 and MediathekView have been updated. FreeTube is a new addition. Enjoy!

Please note: Currently osdn.net is not available for download. The problems with the hoster seem to have existed for some time.

Time will tell whether osdn.net will continue to be available for download. AVMultimedia can therefore currently be obtained via sourceforge.net/archivista (then select avmultimedia.iso)

What I forgot, of course, the keyring problem from 4.9.22 is fixed that affects all Devuan packages/distributions. That is, with the current release, of course, any packages can be installed later. Unfortunately, this is not the case with all previous versions, because the key expired as of September 2022. So, update is highly recommended.

Updating the kernel (5.4.134 und 5.10.52) as a result of attack scenario via normal user privileges (CVE-2021-33909). The second vulnerability (CVE-2021-33910) does not affect AVMultimedia (as well as Devuan), since it only affects systems running SystemD.

Integration WLAN driver for D-Link DWA-182 Rev. D (kernel 5.10.x).

The AVMultimedia version suitable for ArchivistaBox 2021/VII is released. The changes are clear. With 'wakeonlan' the tool is ready to wake up AVMultimedia from deep sleep over the network, more here (at the end of the blog):

#12 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Fastest and newest AVMultimedia ever... » 2021-05-25 10:14:18

There is a new version for AVMultimedia with support for Apple file system, more information you can get here:

https://archivista.ch/cms/en/news/apples-welcome/

The same blog has a comparison of AVMultimedia to the Apple M1 (Mac Mini 2020). Conclusion: the M1 chip is not bad, but it cannot currently hold a candle to a fast Ryzen CPU (mobile or not).

One thing must be added here, however. Many Linux distributions are quite cumbersome compared to the Apple operating system. And even three years after the launch of AVMultimedia, I sometimes have the feeling that a simple Linux desktop like AVMultimedia unfortunately gets little attention. It still seems to me that Linux desktops are just not simple enough even in 2021. Therefore I invite all interested people to test AVMultimedia, because a Linux desktop in 2021 can't be simpler and yes, AVMultimedia doesn't need to shy away from a comparison to AppleOS. Not at all in terms of performance, and not in terms of simplicity either.

New are the application gThumb, GParted, Shotcut in version 21.02.27 and the latest version of MediathekView. Within Caja there is a new option 'Open as administrator'. In the English version the language guide of Firefox follows new in English.

For ArchivistaBox there are new manuals (a good part fits also for AVMultimedia).

English: https://archivista.ch/e2/help
German https://archivista.ch/d2/help

P.S: Currently at osdn.net no files over 2 GByte can be uploaded, avmultimedia.iso is not available there. At sourceforge.net this problem does not exist.

Happy New Year. The new version brings MediathekView the update to 13.7.0, and yes there were again small bugs at MP3toCD. Have fun!

Update to kernel 5.9.11, added multi-touch capability to touch screens and fixed bug Asus T101HA (reference device at AVMultimedia) after startup (right mouse button on right side of screen did not work),

Dark design for MediathekView and correct scaling for TV-Browser and MediathekView. Depending on the resolution of the screen, the windows are enlarged 1:1 (up to FullHD), 2:1 (4K), 3:1 (6K), 4:1 (8K). The desired value can also be set via /home/archivista/data/.javascale (enter number 1,2,3, or 4 there). The desired scaling is set at startup either by the screen resolution or by the file.

Upgrade from the "outdated" Java 8 to version 11, fix small bugs in MP3toCD, integration of TV-Browser (only for aVMultimedia.iso, browsing the TV offers on the desktop).

If you work with avmultimini.iso at the beginning, you can download the file opt.os and copy it to /home/data. Afterwards, restart the program, the extended apps from AVMultimedia are then also available in the mini-version.

Firefox has been updated to 82, there are many new tools for managing audio files (mp3splt, eyeD3) as well as EasyTab. A new tool MP3toCD creates audio files from an MP3 stream and tags them using a CSV file.

With AVMultimedia 2020/XI, the programs JDownloader, MediathekView and LosslessCut are now available for convenient local processing of multimedia files. Enjoy!

#21 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Fastest and newest AVMultimedia ever... » 2020-10-30 19:16:04

Cut and Paste with mouse deactivated, because with the scroll wheel up and down the copied text is directly pasted. In a webforumlar this caused unintentionally text to be pasted into a running form while scrolling. This is now deactivated (via file /home/archivista/.Xmodmap). If you want the old behavior, delete this file via desktop.sh.

#22 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Fastest and newest AVMultimedia ever... » 2020-10-27 00:16:33

Added mate-power-manager to achieve better brightness control when using notebooks.

#23 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Fastest and newest AVMultimedia ever... » 2020-10-26 21:41:54

I would like to add that there is a blog with video for the new release, see here:

http://archivista.ch/cms/en/news/avmult … zen-4000u/

I meant, an installation time of about 5 seconds for a total of about 8 GByte of software is not that bad, right?

#24 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Fastest and newest AVMultimedia ever... » 2020-10-25 23:20:34

AVMultimedia with completely new base (kernel 5.8.16 and 5.4.x parallel).

Some days ago I bought a new Ultrabook with a fast Ryzen 7 mobile processor (4800U). The device has after all 8 cores and 16 threads. Strictly speaking it is a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 - 14ARE05 (16 GByte RAM).

Unfortunately the existing AVMultimedia version did not work with it. Once there were no updated UEFI drivers, but there are more at the "Renoir"-Graphick Because of this arte was no official support for the kernel 5.4, also there were no current firmware drivers for the Lenovo device.

Over the weekend I integrated kernel 5.6.18 into AVMultimedia parallel to the existing version 5.4.32. All imaginable drivers were activated in the kernel, as well as the complete firmware archive from kernel.org.

So AVMultimedia now runs on much more computers than before. Also new are all possible power saving options. With the new Levono device I could measure a standby time of over 30 hours (!).

Since there is now much more firmware and two kernels (more could be added at any time) available in parallel, the ISO files were about 250 MByte larger.

Nevertheless I thought the update makes a lot of sense. Finally I can edit and publish (my) 4K videos on the road with open source and mobile without any problems.

Small side notes, a current example can be found here: http://azurgo.ch/english (German [dialect] with English subtitles). By the way, the Vega graphics card is powerful enough to run 4K almost without jerking in preview mode (tested with Shotcut). Have fun.
