After figuring out how to get the Tor Project repository working and installing apt-transport-tor, I am still not able to use the onion repositories.

$ sudo -e /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii main non-free contrib
deb-src http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii main non-free contrib

deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-updates main non-free contrib

deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-security main non-free contrib
deb-src http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-security main non-free contrib

deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-backports main non-free contrib
deb-src http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-backports main non-free contrib

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install apt-transport-https curl devuan-keyring

$ sudo -e /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tor.list

deb https://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org stretch main
deb-src https://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org stretch main

$ gpg --export A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89 | sudo apt-key add -

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install apt-transport-tor tor deb.torproject.org-keyring

$ sudo apt dist-upgrade --auto-remove --purge

It won't go any further after this point. Can anyone help me to figure this out or know why this is happening?

Hello,

I think that that Devuan tries to be a *free* distribution, without ads, malwares, spying, NSA, and many beautiful modern Snowden technologies. But, Devuan and Linux kernel running increasingly more and more full of those things.

One of them is Pulseaudio, which makes Devuan not like it is described:
https://devuan.org/os/free-software

Chromium has no place here in the distribution. Why Wayland? This is not congruent with the *free* software.
Why Pulseaudio is still present?

Devuan is definitely not a Free Operating System, because it contains many Snowden components.

Devuan is actually not a free operating system, especially because it contains specific softwares.

How can Devuan become closer to a free operating system, like Unix (e.g. OpenBSD), and without malwares, ads,... ?

With best regards,
Sp.

I think your objections should be considered but I don't agree that OpenBSD is completely free of these things either. It's quite easy to install most of what you mentioned in OpenBSD as well. I do agree that Chromium is awful, I don't use it either. I don't like Firefox much either, I'm going to work on repackaging iceweasel-hardened and icedove-hardened for Devuan from Parabola since they are lightweight and hardened which is rather nice, I am a huge fan of Parabola and they offer a OpenRC edition of the OS. Just keep in mind, this is not a wholly free GNU/Linux distribution, neither has it been endorsed by the Freedom Software Foundation. I don't think that's the objective, the objective is to be without systemd. If your objective is wholly free software, you should use Parabola.

Oh well there you go I guess. I guess that's to be expected, I'm not a fan of snaps nor flatpaks either, easier for developers but also encourages laziness and a lack of security in spades so I understand that decision. I don't know why they don't just create a repository for WireGuard versus having you add the unstable repository and break your system.

If a Snap packge uses snapd, you couldn't use it on Devuan because snapd is on the banned package list.

I just solved the issue actually. The clock is set right. I think the issue was that I had the ceres repository enabled and because of that, it breaks any third party repositories. It's unfortunate because now if I want to use this repository, I can't use the ceres repository which I need if I want to be able to install WireGuard, which I do sad

Are you sure about the clock on your system?

Do you know of any way to get both of them working? I could of course install WireGuard in userspace if I use the Snap package but I'd rather not seeing as how that's nowhere near as secure. I'm really hoping it will be available in the kernel soon enough so I don't need to use the unstable repository.

I know, I could do that but I'd prefer to get the actual repository working. I don't see why I shouldn't be able to get it working.

i think you don't need https://deb.i2p2.de/.   i2p-router is in testing (beowulf):

I am trying to install the i2p-router but it's giving me this error message when I try and update the package lists after enabling it's repository.

Hey, I'd just like to introduce myself. I'm Jay and I'm here because I am not a fan of SystemD, neither am I a fan of what's happened recently with the Weboob package and the Anti-Harassment Team from Debian. I'd like to stay clear from any project which seems to be operated by a whole slue of Social Justice Warriors. I don't mean to be political but that's the honest truth for why I'm here and why I'm no longer using Debian.

Aside from all of that however, I'm from Canada, I'm extremely passionate about computer security and I love to share information about all of it. I am a huge fan of anything Dark Web security, I think onion services are one of the best inventions ever to come out the computer security community. I'm a rather paranoid guy, especially since Citizenfour dropped his bomb on us all. I think it's incredible what he did for the world and I thank him for it everyday.

I'm interested in anything Dark Web, Operational security, Security-focused operating systems, Computer security, Cryptography. Cryptocurrency, BitTorrent and the Semantic Web. I find all of it especially interesting, I am indeed a Crypto-anarchist and I'm a definite supporter of Cody Wilson and his Ghost Gunner project. I believe that we can achieve a Cypherpunk Utopia eventually, in fact it's already alive and well for those of us who understand and use the technology already.

Anyway, I didn't want to say too much but I'm happy to be here and I hope you'll all have me. If you're interested in what I have to say and offer, I'm working on a website that should be up shortly which will have a lot to offer and I think people are going to really love it and also be quite surprised. I don't want to say too much about it until it's up and running so I'll leave it at that. smile Let's just say, it's using WebTorrent and IPFS technology wink
