Updated Flashpeak-Slimjet Web-Browser to ver 34.0.2.0(amd64.deb) and when ever I tried to start it failed.
Running it from a console there was an error about "symbols".
It seems to be the version of libffmpeg.so being too old.
I haven't found a replacement in my usual haunts but came accross this solution on the slimjet web site forum.
Here are some links to newer versions (I'm using 0.62.1)

I have a BT mouse (Logitech M-185) Works flawlessly, might as well be cable... (bluez amd64 5.55-3.1)
The trouble I have is the Headset connection is dropping audio far too much,
and pulse audio won't show or switch to it on connect after the very first time.
I'm trying a few hacks but have no joy yet.
<edit>
this page... https://askubuntu.com/questions/366032/ … omatically
and this page... http://askubuntu.com/questions/366032/p … omatically
but it's still really flakey
the BT icon shows up in the system tray, and connects when paired, but pulse won't change over. I have also blacklisted
manually at each boot with rmmod in rc.local "rmmod -f snd_hda_codec_hdmi" to get rid of the useless hdmi audio connection (seems to be set for laptops) on my desktop system . Thank you</edit>
Hi, thank you for your effort. I am currently interested in this subject to get BT headset running "connect and glitch free".
...watching with interest. (although I am running devuan_chimaera)
<edit>
I'm trying this with Pulse-audio... on a desktop with outboard usb-audio and hdmi module removed through rc.local

I also use the bpo kernel.
Generally I have to search for upgrades for it, linux-image... and if found grab the kernel headers packages too.
Currently,
glenn@GlennsPref ~ $ uname -a
Linux GlennsPref.net 5.16.0-0.bpo.4-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 5.16.12-1~bpo11+1 (2022-03-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux
A step by step description and a printout of the terminal as the job progresses would be ideal.
I follow this instructions and broke my Devuan((

Hi, What was the out-come of the "broken" nvidia-340xx install?
I have some experience... Maybe I can help. :-)

My condolences to you zephyr, Dogs are the best people!
Hi, if you want a newer version of the kernel you might consider upgrading to chimaera
I have kernel ver 5.15.x from backports (bpo).
/etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ chimaera main non-free contrib
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ chimaera-proposed-updates contrib non-free main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ chimaera-updates contrib non-free main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ chimaera-backports main non-free contrib
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ chimaera-security main non-free contrib
The kernel you have may be stable, but slow turn-over to newer versions.
<edit> since posting this remark I just installed kernel 5.16... bpo chimaera.</edit>

Hi, the apt cache is in /var/cache/apt/
In Synaptic (package manager) there is a switch (tick box) for keeping cached items, settings/preferences/files/temporary-files.
It won't empty the cache automagically.
So if your /var folder is large enough you may leave the cached packages there or copy them for archiving.
I hope this helps you. All the best.
<edit>
If you use aptitude (package manager) in the file: /etc/apt/apt.conf
there is 2 lines you could toggle to false...
Aptitude::Autoclean-After-Update "true";
Aptitude::Clean-After-Install "true";
I have little experience with aptitude. ymmv

What if I just upgrade from a GT 1650 to a GT 1660? Do I have to completely remove and reinstall the drivers when simply upgrading in the same series?
It's been a while since I upgraded my video card, but...
I remember I changed the card (both nVidia) and booted to see if it broke. It didn't.
But I remember changing from a 9800 and it used an earlier driver (V340.x)
the 1060 uses 495.x
I think "you'll be right".
This kind of thing happened to me with my last motherboard system, but I found that it was corrosion in the motherboard slots that caused spurious ram errors. All quallity parts but bad location to live without air-cond.
I'm using openrc as well, since ascii. I find it easy to manage.
Hello:
For whatever reasons (from carelesness to a USB drive with ID issues) I ended up dd'ing an *.iso image on to a 300Gb HDD containing relatively important stuff. I say relatively because I cannot exactly recall what was there.
[Please don't ask about the backup ...]
So I went to see what the testdisk 7.0 utility had to say with respect to the screwed up drive (/dev/sdf):
--- TestDisk 7.0, Data Recovery Utility, April 2015 Christophe GRENIER <grenier@cgsecurity.org> http://www.cgsecurity.org TestDisk is free software, and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Select a media (use Arrow keys, then press Enter): --- snip --- > Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - HITACHI HUS153030VLS300 ---
As expected TestDisk detected an Intel/PC partition which I selected:
Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - HITACHI HUS153030VLS300 Please select the partition table type, press Enter when done. >[Intel ] Intel/PC partition --- snip --- Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - HITACHI HUS153030VLS300 CHS 36472 255 63 - sector size=512
I then selected Analyse but it found this:
Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - CHS 36472 255 63 Current partition structure: Partition Start End Size in sectors No ext2, JFS, Reiser, cramfs or XFS marker 1 * Linux 0 32 33 36472 225 41 585934848 1 * Linux 0 32 33 36472 225 41 585934848
I then selected [Quick Search] and waited as it found the only partition (primary/300Gb) the drive had:
Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - CHS 36472 255 63 Partition Start End Size in sectors >* Linux 0 32 33 36472 225 41 585934848 [300Gb] <- black fg on green bg ... =^D Structure: Ok. Use Up/Down Arrow keys to select partition. <-- Says it is OK ... =^D Use Left/Right Arrow keys to CHANGE partition characteristics: *=Primary bootable P=Primary L=Logical E=Extended D=Deleted Keys A: add partition, L: load backup, T: change type, P: list files, Enter: to continue ext4 blocksize=4096 Large_file Sparse_SB Backup_SB, 299 GB / 279 GiB
I did not go for the [Deeper Search] option because I knew it was only one partition on the drive.
So I went ahead and selected [Write] to write the partition structure to the disk, confirming with (Y).
It (apparently) wrote the partition and informed me that I had to reboot:
You will have to reboot for the change to take effect. >Ok
After rebooting I see that the drive is still an isoimage and that nothing was written to the drive.
Maybe because *.iso images are RO?So I went to [Advanced] Filesystem Utils to see what it was about.
Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - HITACHI HUS153030VLS300 CHS 36472 255 63 - sector size=512 [ Analyse ] Analyse current partition structure and search for lost partitions >[ Advanced ] Filesystem Utils --- snip ---
I got this:
Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - CHS 36472 255 63 Partition Start End Size in sectors > 1 * Linux 0 32 33 36472 225 41 585934848 [ Type ] >[Superblock] [*ist] [Image Creation] [ Quit ] Locate ext2/ext3/ext4 backup superblock
I first tried the [*ist] option but that went badly:
[ Type ] [Superblock] >[ *ist ] [Image Creation] [ Quit ] List and copy files Support for this filesystem hasn't been enable during compilation.
So I tried with the [Superblock] option and got this:
Disk /dev/sdf - 300 GB / 279 GiB - CHS 36472 255 63 Partition Start End Size in sectors Linux 0 32 33 36472 225 41 585934848 [300Gb] superblock 819200, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 884736, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 1605632, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 2654208, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 4096000, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 7962624, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 11239424, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 20480000, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 23887872, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] superblock 71663616, blocksize=4096 [300Gb] To repair the filesystem using alternate superblock, run fsck.ext4 -p -b superblock -B blocksize device
This is where I loose footing, way out of my depth.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?
I assume (?) that the partition and it's contents is recoverable by writing the partiton structure to the drive.
But TestDisk was not able to do that and I have no idea as to what to do to get it done.
Not to mention all that superblock/alternate superblock stuff.
I'd appreciate some input on this.
Thanks in advance,
A.
Hi, I've done this once or twice,
Generally just chose the last superblock before the trouble began.
superblock 884736, blocksize=4096 [300Gb]
I have also used photorec to recover files... but the names are all machine-like.
regards, Glenn
Thank you for the info HoaS and Marjorie,
I didn't know that about (g)ufw and I'll be implementing your suggestions later today.
I'm using gufw ufw (unified fire-wall)
installing will drag in nft firewalling packages as dep's.
Seems to ok.
Well, if it's uuid of fs you require, You can check with lsblk and blkid and fstab, piping through grep for your disk /dev/sd*
Then changing the uuid in fstab for that system. Personally I find using a "live" varient simpler with a text editor and cut/copy/paste.
This is what I have done after changing a(n) fs, even swaps.
To su to root, type "su -"
I think that may be your solution. It's in the release notes.
I had a couple of attemps at this but struck out time and again. sorry. I've only done this with filesystems. Changing system UID's is different... https://kerneltalks.com/tips-tricks/how … -in-linux/
I appologise, HoaS. I was on my way out yesterday when I posted that comment (Public holiday here in Aus).
I'll check out the link, thank you.
I read that too. Thank you for the updates today :-)
FF is somehow fixated on using the "default" sound output.
Having my asound.conf like this, fixed it and i can control FF*s sound output:defaults.pcm.card 0 defaults.ctl.card 0
I have had those lines in my /home/glenn/.asoundrc for quite some time ... it didn't iron out any wrinkles for my system.
Currently I don't have /etc/asound.conf on my system, only in old backups.
This file is from October 2020 (ascii I think)
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmixer"
}
pcm.dmixer {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 4096
rate 48000
}
bindings {
0 0
1 1
}
}
ctl.dmixer {
type hw
card UA25EX
}
ctl.equal {
type equal;
}
pcm.plugequal {
type equal;
# Modify the line below if you do not
# want to use sound card 0.
#slave.pcm "plughw:0,0";
# by default we want to play from more sources at time:
slave.pcm "plug:dmix";
}
# pcm.equal {
# If you do not want the equalizer to be your
# default soundcard comment the following
# line and uncomment the above line. (You can
# choose it as the output device by addressing
# it with specific apps,eg mpg123 -a equal 06.Back_In_Black.mp3)
pcm.!default {
type plug;
slave.pcm plugequal;
}
In this case, where would I insert those 2 lines? Thank you
Hi all,
I have this issue with firefox.
Audio will work out-of-the-box. But once I have a /etc/asound.conf, sound is gone.
These are the error messages:aplay -L shows
... default hw:CARD=PCH,DEV=0 HDA Intel PCH, ALC236 Analog Direct hardware device without any conversions ...
Card 0, device 0 is the normal laptop speaker. aplay works with this device.
my /etc/asound.conf
pcm.!default { type hw card 0 device 0 } ctl.!default { type hw card 0 device 0 }
This config will work with everything (aplay, mpg123) but firefox.
I dont use pulseaudio.
Any hints? Thanks!
Hi, I am interested in your post because it seems you have the same problem (no sound with some programs, firefox, palemoon, and other web-browsers) I get when ever I have tried to live without Pulse Audio on my system(s).
I don't have a solution, But I am watching for a solution. Thank you
I would consider making the /opt/(game-name) folder part of the games group and then make the user a part of the games group.
