No  this isn't the case I think.
OK Trinity is KDE 3 actually, rebranded and maintained.
On the other hand, LXQt is nowhere near the KDE design (It reminds me LXDE of course and XFCE), but with a first test drive seems to me, both intuitive and productive.

Still, I strongly dislike mobile-like interfaces. I'm not forcing mobile users to use desktop interface, so I won't allow anyone to force me using a mobile interface on my desktop. :-)
Beyond that, If I was in mood for a mobile interface I was using Gnome, not a half baked solution of pre-Alpha quality (KDE or Plasma, or whatever name they're giving it nowadays).

Its the  resume text file on the  /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/ directory.

I gave "kdesu kate" and opened it and changed the given UUID (from Devuan's installation time) -> none.
(The only line, this file have, is: RESUME=none).
I saved and exited Kate. Updated initramfs and voilà! :-)

I never installed xz utils (even from my Kubuntu days). They were always here, where I was in need for compressing something.
Then again, they may autoinstalled with some other package.
What ZIP manager (GUI) are you use?
Does it have XZ support?

xz-utils. This is the name of the package for XZ.
I think it comes preinstalled, if you choose base - console utilities.
If you have installed it, the GUI archiver , will offer the creation of a tar.xz archive.
Ark (which comes preinstalled with KDE), creates XZs, but without asking questions, assumes the compression to be "Normal".
That's why I replaced Ark with J7Z. (For creating "Ultra" compressed archives).

Of course, one can achieve the same results from console, but it takes too many switches to be convenient for me.

Stick with Veracrypt. Stable and mature, multiport (so you can access the same container from Windows), easy to install, straightforward to use, it has them all! :-)
And don't be fooled by its simplicity. Its very powerful and lets you choose even rare algorithms to use (although all the default settings are OK).

If you have plenty of time and want to learn a more traditional Unix way to encrypt, try Tomb or Sirikali.
Its always pleasant to learn new things.

Single files?
When I was working in Windows I was using 7Z for this. Just create a 7Z archive pwd protected (amongst with its filelist).
At Linux I'm using XZ (the 7Z actually, Unix ported with support for file attributes).
For XZ GUI,I'm using J7Z.

Directories?
Veracrypt. It has an installer. You only have to add yourself to sudoers.
(At KDE, you can use KUser for dealing with users administration).

There's also a more native approach (based on kernel's cryptographic modules).
Give Sirikali a try and decide for yourself.
For backend, choose GocryptFS for a start. (You can download the binary and place it somewhere in your path).

Indeed, although it isn't the friendliest interface  on the world.
I prefer the automated tool or the web interface.

I think kdesudo (and gksudo) is going to be obsoleted.

Indeed at my system kdesudo fails to properly execute anything.
On the other hand, kdesu can flawlessly launch programs (Dolphin, Kate etc).
Seems to me that's a Software-properties-kde bug (not Kdesu's).

If someone faced a resolution problem the simpler way to deal with it is xrandr.

After setting it in order to avoid manually running it every time, you have to configure it to autostart.
I'm using KDE and it's easy enough to set it through KDE settings.

The problem is that way you'll still have the above mentioned bug with VTs.
Seems like it's a kernel bug with the name "kernel spamming".

Seems to be an upstream bug (from Debian) and all Debian forks have it (Ubuntu, Mint, Clonezilla etc).
Non-Debian distros don't suffer this specific bug.
I don't think it's relevant to create a bug report at Devuan's tracker (since Debian developers have to deal with it).

If you have a different opinion please tell me.

Personally I'm not in great need of VTs, so I'll stick with Devuan.
I'm not marking this thread as solved, because if someone needs VTs (or any console without X)...well...bad luck! :-)

Last time I boot, startup output clearly stated (unlike the previous boots) that kernel needed the firmware-amd-graphics package (as you suggested), so I installed it (and xserver-xorg-video-radeon got autoinstalled too).
Seems like my card (R3 series) is at the supported list.

Now, after the restart, I'm getting the message that my monitor has no or invalid EDID (and resolution is still stuck at 1024X768).

Seems (altough I'm not sure) like I have to create an Xorg.conf, but I have about a decade to get my hands to it.

Any ideas - directions??? :-)
There are many sugestions online, but does someone tried them on Devuan?
