Amprolla is an APT repository realtime merging....
why this important tecnicall information are not easy available for users?
Amprolla has been discussed for YEARS on the DNG mail list and irc. We are in the process of moving to Amprolla2 .
This very forum has lists of git.d.o projects where amprolla is listed as: amprolla (devuan-infrastructure) - amprolla is an apt repository on the fly merger with proxy and.... Do take a look at those lists that are linked back to their respective git projects.
that's explain many of things! so then in any case if this its the behaviour, i think Devuan developers now will have more work if continue mirroring the Debian repository, due the two main changes: debugger package repository and xorg new behaviour
so i see the future too complicated
Why so negative about the future? Accept the challenge or lose your freedom. For me that choice is obvious . . .
that's its a really very powerfully hardware here! very expensive here! i my job i have very very resources.. but my house machine its 512MB ram, Celeron uniprocesor, but with right system i see good movies... and have runnig video editors
Ouch! I actually have a machine like that in the back room that I retired years ago . . .
nowi golinux , the question its that i want to change the default XFce4 desktop in original disc set for LXDE due Devuan does not offers LXDE only disc, only derivates do.. but i not have the guidelines for.. only Debian references..
i want to do something on Devuan but as today i not have the docs.. and the current documentation are very confused, many changes...
Debian Jessie references that are not systemd related should be valid for Devuan. Sometimes Wheezy references might be helpful too.
the project cannot assumed all the people have a powered hardware and lof of resources.. not all the contributors have pleny of resources.. in this case we are discriminating ...
Well, I work on a 32 bit machine with 4 gb of ram and a 15" monitor. That's hardly powerful hardware but I'm not complaining. People deal with ISP throttling, unstable connections and socio-economic discrimination even in US. That's hardly Devuan's fault.
@mckaygerhard . . . If you want to continue to post here, please be more respectful of those who are trying to help you. Insulting Devuan or Devuan developers is not going to go well for you. An attitude adjustment is in order . . .
Hi keb,
You will need to get ffmpeg from http://www.deb-multimedia.org/
You'll need to install the deb-multimedia-keyring and add this to your sources.list
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org/ jessie main
I should be able to make those corrections when I have the time.
of couorse nobody has tested devuan far away from only install on destop... and "arm toys"
I'm not quite understanding what you're trying to say. But Devuan is running much more than desktops and "arm toys". All of Dyne's infrastructure is on Devuan and this board is also. If you'd read the reviews on Distrowatch or comments on irc, you'd know that many servers have been upgraded to Devuan. And I guess you missed this . . .
I'd stick with the Wheezy handbook and read/compare selectively in the Jessie Handbook. There are things that are specific to Devuan of course.
Needs to be a revolution in web content, no more patronizing any site that feels compelled to ram mountains of rotating ads, flash, javascript, thrid party crap, autostarting video etc. etc. , down a user's throat.
Users have the option to take control. Between adblock plus and stylish, I never see any of those offensive things. At least not more than once. Even at that FF is a resource hog . . .
"Instead is conf must reliable to be used." What? Not getting it . . .
Just updated Tor Browser [7.0 (based on Mozilla Firefox 52.1.2)].
Which has now gone totally silent and is telling me to install pulseaudio,
Any way around this?
Search here, on dng and on FDN for 'apulse'.
I have used Steve Pusser's repo's on occasion with no problem. However one thing concerns me and that is that the repo is somewhat tied to MX. And MX although claiming to be systemd-free has only enabled sysvinit as per Debian's instructions. This means that systemd hooks will remain in the packages in his repo and may bring in unwanted dependencies.
@rob630 . . . Please use BBCode tags to make your post more readable.
You could leave an issue on parazyd's repo at git.devuan.org. Chances of him coming here are almost nil. Or post to DNG. He's chatting on #devuan as of the timestamp above.
Talk to parazyd on #devuan-arm or #devuan-dev or even #devuan.
@mckaygerhard . . . have you ever considered writing posts in your native language and then passing it through a translator? Some of what you write makes little sense. Hopefully, we will have places for the international community to communicate soon. ![]()
Moved as requested . . .
Being free software is a must-have for me--I just cannot trust an internet-facing "blackbox" running on my system. Vivaldi is proprietary software, unfortunately.
Yeah. I just left them a note on their forum . . .
Here's a short list of free software alternatives available today:
- GNU Icecat
- Waterfox
- Chromium
Waterfox is only 64 bit. Will take a look at Icecat. At a minimum the icons might be less fussy . . .
It worked for me when policykit was being headstrong. I just hopped on a different horse. Just ignore if you want to solve within policykit. Sorry for the noise.
Have you tried gksu?
Probably been over a year since I tried Vivaldi. I liked it, but there were hardly any plugins available for it at the time. Perhaps I should revisit it?
It's using plugins from the Chrome app store. Isn't that the road that FF has taken also?
One of my favorite alternative browsers is Slimjet. Built off Chromium, but it uses less RAM than Chromium and Firefox. One downside is that it has to be reinstalled when new versions are released. It's easily done with .deb packages though.
Hmmm. . . Never heard of that one . . .
We all know the time is coming. There is a thread over at Mozillazine - Which Browser for You After Firefox 57? - that I occasionally look at. Last night a mention of Vivaldi caught my eye and I did something I rarely do . . . I installed it! I was prepared for a quick uninstall but was surprised that I actually am liking it. First thing was to get Adblock Plus on there. The syntax is a little different than I'm used to but workable. There is a nice neutral gray theme. Video works ootb and even jitsi! Not too happy with the licensing though. Has anybody else given it a spin?
I'm not understanding this. Is it a question (about an existing forum somewhere) or a request (for a space on this forum)? If you want to discuss that here, the DIY forum would be a good place. Moving since it is not a support question regarding Devuan Jessie.
