In the aria repository there is a mtr program that clearly shows problems with the network. This is what it looks like.
I had to send a similar picture to my provider when my entire network was working except Google.
Sometimes the packets were lost in one of the provider's intermediate nodes. I don’t know what they tweaked, but the problem disappeared.

@pcalvert
Daedalus, right now synaptic is updating 63 packages.
Regards.
Do you think it will help him?
7 years was not enough to learn how to work with apt?
There are no words...
The case is unique, almost clinical.
7th year on the forum, more than 200 posts and I need to start a new thread with a question that has been raised here many times.
There are very few developers of projects of this level.
And let's start discussing their choice of tools, completely running away.
As for the rest, yes, Codeberg opens even faster in the browser and ublock does not respond to it.
The brightness keys were working on XFCE with the nouveau driver, but stopped when I installed the nvidia driver.
Absolutely the same!
I'll add a little.
For almost every command, it is possible to call the built-in help using keys
<command> -h
or
<command> --help
Here's an example for
chown --help
Usage: chown [OPTION]... [OWNER][:[GROUP]] FILE...
or: chown [OPTION]... --reference=RFILE FILE...
Change the owner and/or group of each FILE to OWNER and/or GROUP.
With --reference, change the owner and group of each FILE to those of RFILE.
-c, --changes like verbose but report only when a change is made
-f, --silent, --quiet suppress most error messages
-v, --verbose output a diagnostic for every file processed
--dereference affect the referent of each symbolic link (this is
the default), rather than the symbolic link itself
-h, --no-dereference affect symbolic links instead of any referenced file
(useful only on systems that can change the
ownership of a symlink)
--from=CURRENT_OWNER:CURRENT_GROUP
change the owner and/or group of each file only if
its current owner and/or group match those specified
here. Either may be omitted, in which case a match
is not required for the omitted attribute
--no-preserve-root do not treat '/' specially (the default)
--preserve-root fail to operate recursively on '/'
And secondly, some file managers, Konqueror for example, display man pages if you insert # <command> in their address bar, it’s more convenient to read.
@deepforest
What is kmod?...
It turns out somehow undignified and uninteresting.
If you delve into initialization systems, then at least you need to have a complete understanding of how it works, what kind of scripts and links they are.
Maybe start with this? But, of course, you know better...
Moreover, all users install programs from github on their computers!
Or they could create a github-free community or distribution.
Who will lead by example?
But seriously, here’s about the results of the deal:

P.S. The first goal of any commercial enterprise is to make a profit. This is objective reality. It is important for society that this activity be within the framework of the law. The rest is “religion”, the choice of each individual person.
P.P.S. You can also look at it from another point of view. Free is just cheese in a mousetrap, someone has to pay for the maintenance of the github infrastructure. Well, let MS pay.

I've had similar problems ...
In my case, perhaps this is a communication error between the Nvidia driver and DE (Trinity).
The DE buttons are visible, level icons appear, but the brightness does not change. At the same time, the xbacklight command works and I use it.
Regards.
is there command for parsing all system logs to find this warning?
The log is a regular text file; any editor will find what you are looking for. Some DEs have utilities for viewing system files, the only benefit they provide is that the root password must be entered once to view all of them.
Or is it time to learn

The sadness of tube sound is that one day you come up against the need for acoustic design of the room, but our interiors require other criteria. As a result, there is a dead end in development and this hobby turns into a meaningless “listening” to various radio components. I abandoned it.
And by backlight I meant the brightness of the screen itself. The Fn+arrow keys do not work with nvidia drivers.
P.S. As far as I understand the description, your laptop has 4 speakers. That's why I asked.
But yes, in mine, too, only one remained alive.
Regards.
Not quite the Linux way, there is such a program as YUMI - Multiboot USB Creator, installed under Windows. The first item in its menu is “Boot from hard drive”. If the installer has not installed the bootloader, then when you select this item, the OS installed on the disk will be loaded.
I myself sometimes used the YUMI Legacy version for this.

It is important for me as I will transmit my iso to other.
As punishment?
What bad did they do?
P.S. I’m wondering, now that it turned out that the topstarter’s computer is not compatible with modern Linux, what other way of psychological relief and increasing self-esteem in the form of regular screams “The DevuAn core is disturbing children in underdeveloped countries!” will he choose?
@GlennW
Thanks I got it.
I have a laptop of approximately the same class, Lenovo Y500, and I don’t know which of us is luckier.
He has two identical NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M video cards, driver support has ended, the old ones work, but I couldn’t get the keyboard buttons that control brightness to work.
And Debian seems to have stopped supporting older Nvidia drivers.
P.S. Pure curiosity of a former audiophile (homemade tube Hi-End, etc.), if it’s not a secret, do your speakers r552jv really reproduce what the manufacturer promised?
Regards.
I have two root partitions and a /home partition on all my computers.
And the second OS is some kind of distribution kit for such “walks”.
...but you need to take into account that it may be broken after the next update..
Agree.
There is a wonderful distribution without systemd PclinuxOS. With a single system setup center, including the latest versions of programs, even some kind of browser specifically for the latest AMD processors.
The only drawback, for me at least, is the rolling release and you can only roll back to a previously taken snapshot of the system.
I witnessed on their forum when, after an update, a colleague was unable to log into his account for some payments and the developers, despite their best efforts, could not help.
Until november 2023 I did NEVER have such problems A good man can. A eunuch can't any more.
Yes, you won't be envied.
Get used to it, the years take their toll.
A simple example when the interface complies with standards at the hardware (physical) level, but is not supported by software.
I have two desktop motherboards with almost the same hardware - Asus and Gigabyte.
The BIOS of the Asus board allows loading from a USB card reader with an SD card, the BIOS of the Gigabyte does not see it, although it loads a regular USB flash drive.
At the same time, in any OS installed on the Gigabyte board, the card reader is mounted and works normally.
It's a matter of firmware and drivers.
.xsession-errors?
P.S. I apologize, it was extremely inconvenient to type the text.
Look at this file in your home folder. Usually there is a log manager there, at least in my Trinity.
Is seatd really necessary?
If possible, I would delete everything and run devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop-live.iso.
If everything is successful, install it on your hard drive. And then I would install the frills. Xfce itself can be removed with just one command if necessary.
@steve_v
I won’t argue, you are of course right, Linux has tools that allow you to solve almost any problem, including installing a bootloader.
The question is rather “philosophical”: “Are you for the computer or is it for you?”
The computer can easily do all the procedures for chroot itself through a script, for example.
The OS installation itself can be done manually, but we prefer installers.
Why not take the next step?
But I don't insist...
Regards.
I want to join in the words of gratitude.
It is remarkable that the Devuan team managed to maintain the stability of the progenitor.
If you enable only stable repositories and stop trying to "frankenstem" the distribution will work for years without problems.
I often had questions during upgrades, when developers changed the usual settings in new versions, such as searching for the OS rough.
But thanks to the forum, everything was resolved quite quickly. Thank you.
I apologize for the off topic.
There is a "grub reinstall" item in the Pclinuxos live image. All the user needs to do is point the mouse.
Envy, honestly.
Maybe there is a way to run refractainstaller only to install the bootloader?
