I wish I could. You might want to include more specific information about your machine, whether you did a clean ascii install or upgraded, if you are using a DE which one etc.?
As to ceres and mixing it with a stable release . . . exactly what did you install from Ceres? You must be aware that you touch ceres at your own risk. It is labeled 'unstable' for a very good reason.
I hope someone with experience on the bleeding edge stops by. You might also try the Devuan irc channels on Freenode.

As a forum admin, you will get this. In general if a member emails you about some other member "crossing the line", it's coming from someone with an agenda.
I disagree. The emails I have gotten were from well-established, respected contributors to this forum whose only 'agenda' was for the forum to be free of disruption.
The discussion here seems to be pretty much against implementing the troll extension to be publicly viewable. I'm not opposed to a trial run with hidden stats. In any case it would be useful for some to be able to ignore an annoying user.
golinux wrote:And finally . . . the only cliques I have seen here are trolls banding together.
I haven't seen any bands of trolls here?
Then you haven't been paying attention. Or maybe it's just semantics . . .
I started typing before your message was there, wrote half an essay threw it away and boiled it down to the short 2 sentences.
Yeah, I've done that more than a few times. ![]()
I fail to see the value in the stats.
It would give the admins a sense of how users are reacting to questionable posts though as has been mentioned the numbers can be manipulated. In the past, users have on occasion emailed me when they feel someone else on the board has crossed a line. Perhaps public requests in Forum Feedback would be a better option to suggest a need for administrative action. All I know is that there are times when action might be necessary. We just need to figure out the best way to gauge when and what is appropriate.
Thankfully, this board has fewer issues than most because of the maturity of its members.
An another point . . . post ratings are not on our radar so rest easy on that.
And finally . . . the only cliques I have seen here are trolls banding together.
This troll brand mark count does not need to be public to be useful for the moderators.
And this troll brand mark count should not be public because it biases the reader.
Didn't I just say that? I totally agree.
If someone is being a dickhead, then just deal with that in the traditional manner.
That would depend on your definition of 'traditional manner'. A troll's knee-jerk defense to any moderation or reason is to play the victim and it's a downward spiral of venom after that.
Disclaimer to those who may point a finger in my direction . . . this mod was not my idea but I'm not opposed to giving it a try. I would however prefer that there be no public "shaming" involved that could incite undesirable results. I do think that stats on users that are having a negative effect on this board are a useful metric for deciding what action if any should be taken.
Some feedback from irc.
<Irrwahn> golinux: That's just install via some ISO image. That's not the same as an officially supported install image, but more like "bring your own OS". And it will only work for VMs, not dedicated machines, unless you rent a KVM + virtual drive console.
<Irrwahn> By this metric virtually any old hosting company in existence can be said to have an "Install Devuan" option.
and then . . .
<Irrwahn> He could probably do that himself. ISTR that basically any customer can deposit any ISO (that meets some criteria) at their store.
and finally:
<Irrwahn> Overall, the important takeaway is: When you run Devuan on a Hetzner machine, you do so at your own devise and own risk, no support.
<Irrwahn> And that's different from their "official" OS choices.
@devuser . . . That's fantastic news! The process is a bit daunting though - not for the faint-hearted. I should probably add Hetzner to the list and include a link to your post above. Could you possibly contact them requesting either an update to or addition of the ASCII iso?
It reminds me that I'm still sitting still on the Swedish translation
LOL! I thought that but resisted the urge . . . ![]()
OK, if it's that simple I'll have a look into the Dutch language pack then. Can't make any promises as there's a lot on my plate already. Can these files be opened by LibreOffice and more importantly, edited and saved in the correct format?
My advice is to stay away from LO for any text/config files. Please use a text editor like mousepad or Pluma or geany etc..
If Dutch works, I may try my hand at German too. But as a non-native speaker I'm not sure my options/solutions/translations would be best suited. For now, that's of no concern, first the Dutch language pack to solve before anything else!
If you would provide Dutch that would be most appreciated!
Thankfully, for the moment this is a troll-free zone.
(Make a sacrifice to your favorite idol to ensure that it stays that way . . . LOL!!!)
But perhaps it's not so bad an idea if you build a list of hosters where devuan is either a clickable option or can be migrated to, even if it's only maintained until people get tired of poettering about and demand systemd-free hosting.
. . . I haven't seen a single hoster that actually offers Devuan templates yet. I've tried a bit of lobbying here or there but so far no luck.
Two options were included in the ASCII stable announcement. That info is posted in two places on the devuan.org website.
https://devuan.org/os/debian-fork/ascii … nce-060818
https://devuan.org/os/install
AWS used to have a devuan image available. Perhaps one of you could confirm. As to Hetzner . . . according to one of our devs:
<DocScrutinizer05> >>Hetzner which are offering Devuan<< hmm? I just checked, seems they can't find "devuan" even in their support pages
<DocScrutinizer05> of course you can install your own OS with Hetzner
<DocScrutinizer05> if Hetzner actually has any support for devuan beyond that generic "BYOOS", it's prolly quite worth elaborting about it in devuan's publications, since on Hetzner it's unknown
<DocScrutinizer05> https://github.com/hetzneronline/installimage
<Irrwahn> DocScrutinizer05: You are correct, Hetzner does not provide a Devuan install image. For our Finnish Maid we had to go the Debian -> Devuan route just recently.
Anglese only , si vous plait...))
The default option for translation of the forum controls is English. Every user has the choice of which language to choose.
Have you asked for a refund?
I hear you. You made your point (rather dramatically) and I will now butt out. But before I go, I have a suggestion. Could you please put [ code ] tags around all the c/p from the terminal like this? There's even a point and clicky menu above the input box to help you do it.
# deb cdrom:[devuan_ascii_2.0.0_amd64_netinst]/ ascii main non-free
# deb cdrom:[devuan_ascii_2.0.0_amd64_netinst]/ ascii main non-free
deb http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged/ ascii main non-free contrib
deb-src http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged/ ascii main non-free contrib MIYO + what looks like a radura symbol.
So I go to find one and discover it's been 'sanitized' with greeny goodness.
Good grief!!!

So, mate-power-manager here is a third-party package that has apparently been rebuilt so it won't depend on systemdSo will this rebuilt mate-power-manager find its way into Devuan's repos?
Yes. antofox maintains MATE for Devuan.
Good grief. You do have an overactive imagination. It a GNU and quite harmless.
It indicates other Linux distros in a generic way if a specific icon is not available.

@colby . . . you should not have any packages installed directly from the Debian repos. Doing so could really break your your system. Packages from the Debian repos are pulled by amprolla via a redirect that filters out incompatible packages.
The following network-manager packages are available in the ascii repos:
https://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/d1pk … ease=ascii
The mate packages, unless they are very new, should also be available on the Devuan repos. I let you do your own searching.
@msi . . . have you checked ascii-proposed for the newest mate-power-manager?
Server not found
Firefox can’t find the server at deve22%20backgrouind.
Yada Yada
You'll have to post it online somewhere if you don't have access to a server.
thank you Siva. you are right my question did have 2 sides and you did answer both completely.
no, I will not use Devuan unstable completely but check if there are packages not available in Devuan Jessie being able to be used by pinning in Devuan Jessie. I hope pinning is possible?
Why not look in ASCII and/or Beowulf repos for what you need before jumping to Ceres.
Maybe xrandr?
