Hi There,
I am trying to set up an hotspot with my laptop through the nm-applet but it doesn't work.
In my memories there were plenty of articles about hotspot and nm-applet but looks like all them were cannibalized by the latest Ubuntu/Gnome3...
I wonder if this is actually possible with the default Xfce4 and desktop, plus nm-applet... I have runit as init system but if I need to change to openrc, for instance, I am willing to make this change.
May anyone of you guide me through this process?
Thanks in advance!

Does your network card support AP mode?

Also see here

I know they are archlinux links but the arch wiki is usually pretty good when it comes to stuff like this.

You'll need to install hostapd and read through its documentation.

Thank you guys, apparently it is supported:
sudo iw list | grep AP
* AP
* AP/VLAN
* AP/VLAN
Driver supports full state transitions for AP/GO clients
* AP: 0x00 0x10 0x20 0x30 0x40 0x50 0x60 0x70 0x80 0x90 0xa0 0xb0 0xc0 0xd0 0xe0 0xf0
* AP/VLAN: 0x00 0x10 0x20 0x30 0x40 0x50 0x60 0x70 0x80 0x90 0xa0 0xb0 0xc0 0xd0 0xe0 0xf0
* AP: 0x00 0x20 0x40 0xa0 0xb0 0xc0 0xd0
* AP/VLAN: 0x00 0x20 0x40 0xa0 0xb0 0xc0 0xd0
However I am not sure I want go that route, it is easier using my phone as access point and connect my workstation to the laptop through RDP...
