[SOLVED] Darktable Debian 12 software installation possible?

As being complete linux newbie wanted to ask is it ok to install darktable outside devuan repo
from darktable repo that is meant for debian 12 stable??

Can programs made for debian be installed and do they work or might it brake something from devuan
installation?

Running Daedalus and darktable is not in devuan repo.

It is best, and safest, to not enable the debian repositories.  Devuan uses the debian repositories for about 95% or more of its packages.  My daedalus shows darktable as being available for install from the "main" repository.

What does your /etc/apt/sources.list file look like?

I only have currently cdrom since that was install media and then first internet based repo:
http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main

rawtherapee is there and gimp, but can't find darktable.

This page shows what the sources.list should look like in daedalus, and this is only showing the main repo.

You may want to add the additional options like adding "contrib non-free non-free-firmware" to each line.

But at any rate it should still show up as it is there with "main".   

# apt policy darktable
darktable:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 4.2.1-4
  Version table:
     4.2.1-4 500
        500 http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus/main amd64 Packages

Have you run "apt update" before looking for it? Or, are you using synaptic?  A better question is, how are you trying to look for it and install it, with a terminal using "apt" or with the gui program synaptic?  If using apt you must might first want to run "apt update", and if using synaptic, click on "Reload" first, before searching.

Before doing that make sure the cdrom entry is out of the way. Put a # in front of the line to uncomment it, or remove the cdrom entry completely.

Alternative on my Daedalus:

# apt list darktable
Auflistung… Fertig
darktable/stable 4.2.1-4 amd64

Anyhow, have a look at the right top of this web page. There are 5 links. Use Devuan.org and scan through the available information, it might be helpful for a beginner.

I have written also daedalus-proposed-updates repo to synaptic as all else also that is shown in instructions.
checked the /etc/apt/sources.list also with txt editor and it is ok...

Tried also apt update and apt policy darktable from terminal.. Does not find it from terminal or thru synaptic.

Checked also lscpu if system/installation is 64-bit and it should be cabaple running 64-bit software..

How about if it is not available to intel i7 hw architecture from repo??? Says something about amd64 on those screenshots?

How to add non free if it contains non free parts, but shouln't non free soft be included in deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main ??

So was thinking if it is not available to m4500 precision hw architecture platform or is missing in some repo trace??

Rawtherapee installation shows it is 32-bit installation..

Please post the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file. That might give us enough information to tell what's wrong.

Now I'm thinking if the installation is 32-bit from dvd.. If it is maybe have to upgrade to 64-bit, but lscpu showed this installlation should be 64-bit...??

Shite... So maybe darktable only available as 64-bit?? And maybe I have to install 64-bit devuan..? Can this installation be easily upgraded to 64-bit with some gimmick?

darktable is a 64bit only application. When you use the link to Packages in the top right corner you can check yourself.

And no, there is no easy way to convert to 64bit. You should download an amd64 medium and repeat the installation.

One of the steps is adding amd64 architecture, which should allow installing the wanted  (64-bit-)program.

Luckily this came at this phase of installation.. Not very much customized yet..
So I will make a fresh install from the amd64 64-bit version files.

Have to say graphics feel a little better and stable also with the 64-bit install on this HW platform.
