Hi all
I'm a newcomer to Devuan, just made the transition today from Debian.
My install from a live usb appears to have gone fine (so far), I'm running with XFCE desktop.
The only issue that I am stumped with is how to change repository preferences to include contributor and non-free software. In my previous experience with Debian I used a GUI package named software-properties-gtk to make the changes and so was delighted when i checked prior to install today that the package was also available with Devan (version 0.99.30-4).
The package and dependencies all seemed to install as expected, the only slightly unexpected thing was that the shortcut appeared in settings rather than system.
Sadly clicking the launch icon for "Software & Updates" appears to do nothing.
I've tried removing the package, rebooting and reinstalling but the outcome remains the same.
Could anyone advise where I may be going wrong or where I may need to look to get a better handle on where the issue may lie?
Many thanks for any help or guidance anyone can offer :-)

Hi koala, welcome to Devuan.
I'm going to refer you to the command line from a terminal. The main complication may be that you may need to install and/or setup sudo. If so, how to do that is standard stuff for both Debian & Devuan.
Try the following to see your current repository setup:
$ grep ^[^#] /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-updates main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-security main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-proposed-updates main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-backports main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/josm.list:deb https://josm.openstreetmap.de/apt/ alldist universe
$ la /etc/apt/sources.list
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2535 Aug 17 17:25 /etc/apt/sources.list
That will then inform you on which places in which file you may need to change. I hope that it goes without saying that most repository files require root to change them.

Thanks for the response alexkemp
I decided to go back to Debian which for me is more familiar and less problematic than my very brief experience with Devuan.

You give up that easy?

The process to change Debian repository choices is (from my recall) identical to that deployed with Devuan. I think that his problem lies elsewhere, rolfie.

You can also edit your repositories via Synaptic Package Manager (sudo apt install synaptic) by going to Settings, and then Repositories. The rest of it is pretty straight-forward: just check and uncheck what you prefer, and add the extra lines as needed (check in Section(s)).
