[SOLVED] libreoffice fails to launch in Devuan 4.0

hi,  i'm on devuan 4.0 with XFCE DE and have libreoffice installed.

when i choose 'libreoffice writer' or 'libreoffice calc' in the XFCE menu, nothing happens.

what gives?

I'm using that same version both for OS & DE. LO boots fine via the xfce menu.

i tried with command line prompt and received an error:

i updated to chimera from 3.0, maybe libreoffice didn't get updated propperly during the process?  but checking 'synaptics' indicating libreoffice base/core are up-to-date

You need to install mlocate to be able to use the (command-line) locate command. I would strongly advocate for it.

Well, that was easy.

This page points to the lack of (or faulty) GTK2 causing that error, whilst the latest post points out that nowadays GTK3 is required. That neatly suggests that this is the issue:

Check whether libreoffice-gtk3 is installed and, if not, I suspect that you have found the issue.

PS

I suspect that a simple fix may be to add backports to your repository list, which gives the latest LO and should fully update it at the same time. Here is my current setup:

LibreOffice Appimage works with Dev1
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/appimage/

Also if you need a word processor and spreadsheet
You could always install Abiword and Gnumeric
or just type something up in text editor or mark down editor

I really like appimage
I have a folder for them all

I myself control when it updates or not
I can revert back to a older build if needed most of the time (LibreWolf changes the profile so you cant revert)

I've removed Libreoffice files from my Chimera since it's broken.

Tried Appimage of Libreoffice and it works out great!
