keyboard qwerty italian

Good morning everyone: I have a qwerty keyboard. I am forced to use the setxkbmap it command. How do I make changes permanent?

Have you tried this?
sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

This worked every-time for me, setting up the console keyboard and the X11 configuration.

The there is
sudo setupcon
But I never had to use that.
