About a year ago, I took a notion to try out Daedalus, and did a distribution
upgrade following the advice on this board. Problems arose right off, and I
then tried a net install. There were still problems, mainly with crashes when
quiting both VLC and Audacity, requiring a reboot. I suspected video problems.
So I clonezilla'd back to Chimaera, and locked the video drivers, mesa, ffmpeg,
and the kernel from being updated. All was well for about a year. Then
yesterday, I thought that perhaps Daedalus might have any bugs worked out by
now, so I again backed up Chimaera, and did a net install of Daedalus. Well,
it still has problems for me. With only firefox running, if a clicked on a
link, it dumped me to a logon prompt. With only pluma and mahjong running, it
would sometimes also dump to a logon screen. So I am now back on Chimaera for
the time being.
I am posting the output of lspci. Note that I am not looking for help, but
am interested if anyone else has this sort of experience?

Found the problem. I installed the non-free-firmware package firmware-misc-nonfree and the crashing has gone away for the last
24 hours of testing.
I will mark this as solved.
