[SOLVED] HP printer on Daedelus

I had to do an "apt install hplip" (root/sudo) to be able to install my HP Envy 5530 -usb connected printer.
HP website wanted me to install a bunch of dependencies [manually] to create/make 'hplip' !!!!
Much easier with 'apt'.

Of course, it’s easier to install ready-made binary packages from a repository than to compile a program from source.
This is what the hplip-3.23.12.run program or tarball from the HP website does

Re: [SOLVED] HP printer on Daedelus

when you install hplip and hplip-gui, you will be a happy person.
Devuan (Daedalus) should be quite up-to-date with respect to the CUPS version.
The hplip package delivers you all .ppd files required for your printer
The hplip-gui package adds some comfort for tasks like check ink-levels, settings, scan, print etc.
In very rare cases you need to install a specific .ppd file, which should be available at HPs web-site.
This has worked well the last ~15+ years. Now I switched to Brother printers. No drives and installation needed. What a bliss.
BTW, with HP networked printers that should work as well. Now even some Canon networked printers can be used with Linux - without installing extra software.
