[SOLVED] Just bought HP 8025, not detected

I'm at a loss, this is the first time I had trouble with an hp printer. It's an Officejet Pro 8025 and hplip isn't detecting it. I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions?

Devuan 2.1
hplip 3.16.11
cups 2.2.1-8

HPLIP db shows HP 8020 Officejet series printers are supported. May be you should run hp-setup with the printer connected to the Linux PC. It will work.

Unfortunately it doesn't. Any other suggestions?

[Is 8025 considered part of the 8020 series? I can't understand why it's not being detected.]

Yes. I think so. In the case of HP 2135 printer, 2130 series driver worked. Hopefully true. I will still recommend you to try running "sudo hp-setup".

Also, check that user has lpadmin as secondary group.

Another option is using CUPS. There is a gui tool system-config-printer. Try installing system-config-printer, system-config-printer-udev packages.

Meanwhile ensure that the printer USB cable is inserted properly in printer end and PC usb slot.

Much thanks, installing system-config-printer seems to have done the trick. I owe you one cold beer. smile
I will wait a day or two before marking this as solved.

+1

When (in a hurry) I purchased a M2020W, the only thing that worked almost right away (Devuan 2.0 ascii) was CUPS.
No issues since.

Cheers,

A.

Glad that it worked. It may be possible to use the proper 8020 *.ppd driver which may be part of hplip. I'm not sure how to do that.

I'll just stick to what's working. smile But I'm wondering now, can hplip be removed from my computer without affecting the printer?
