MATE volume control issue (beowulf)

Running MATE over beowulf, and have been having the following issue for quite some time:

It involves using the mouse scroll wheel over the volume indicator to adjust volume. It will scroll down (lowering volume), but will only scroll up a few percent before it hits a ceiling (usually 30%). You can scroll down all you want, to zero, but then it will only scroll up to 7% before pegging. So you essentially ratchet down. Everything works as expected in buster, FWIW.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

TIA

Re: MATE volume control issue (beowulf)

never had such an issue with MATE - beowulf.
using experimental MATE right now, so can't confirm this.
maybe send a bug report with details, ~/.xsession-errors perhaps and whatever related in system logs?

also did you try using alsamixer from console to see if that's a pulseaudio-mate thing, or something else?
