Well, I was hoping to include the new Control Center and Live Keyboard Layout applications in a straight MiyoLinux Ascii release (just openbox/tint2...no panel switcher)...to coincide with the Devuan Ascii release.

...but I might go ahead and release it under Jessie...'cause that's the way I roll... tongue

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

Okay...I've done a ton of work on different things...had to totally revamp a lot of things too. My original intent was to include all of the new "stuff" on a regular MiyoLinux release; however, I may re-release the latest Miyo-XTRAs with the new items...haven't decided for sure yet. Here's my latest inclusion...a "Welcome Screen" for the Live Session that pops up after the desktop loading sound finishes (of course). Can't take away from that stinkin' awesome little diddly that plays. LOLOL! tongue

...and thanks fsr...for putting up with my simple blunders. wink

Okay. I decided the quickest thing to do was to add all of the new "features" (?) to Miyo-XTRA. If anyone is interested, both 32 and 64 bit versions are now available on the Sourceforge site.

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

Very good, I was impressed.
The PMinstaller script is tiny and it might fit nicely in one of your miyo-control-panels without adding much space.  I think it installs pm much faster than ff-esr from the repository.  The latest of pm browser will come through the day the installer is run.

It was asciified and held up nicely (except for ob-gen and that linux-desktop command )

Thanks again

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

Thanks fungus.

That's a great idea about including the Pale Moon installer script...but I wonder if I can do that legally. Would I have to get their permission to include it? I'll look at their website and see if there's any information on it.

When you say "ob-gen and that linux-desktop command", are you saying the command didn't fix it? It worked every time I tried it in my testing.

One more one more thing and then I'll catch up to you in a more appropriate venue:

I like openbox but I LOOOOOOOOOVE flux and JWM; I want to beta test and/or goof around with the "default" that a new but clueless user would download but I'm also chomping at the bit to MIYO and get the bleep off of this temporary systemd band-aid install.

Should I wipe one drive or two? I've got plenty of old Thinkpads.

LOL! Thanks γραφω λογον...I appreciate your support, but keep in mind...

1. Miyo is Devuan and uses only Devuan repositories...
2. While I've ventured into other desktop environments for Miyo, I don't think I'll ever produce a Miyo-Fluxbox or Miyo-JWM. However, both Crowz and Star do offer those desktops. smile

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

As long as you're using the Devuan repositories, I can somehow figure it out; that's what I have on my "antisocialnetworking" laptop-tablet convertible that I read my ebooks on.

smile

Yes, I already know that just because I can doesn't mean I should, but pre-2006 Thinkpads are a lot less expensive than "normal" corporate consumer entertainment products for people like me.

i3 looks like fun, too. I probably don't understand Awesome, but I've been using it for awhile just because I can. I guess I'm just not the KDE/Gnome3 type but there never was anything wrong with diversity and there never will be.

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

I hope this is the proper place to report this. The checksums for the file Miyo-XTRA-Jessie-64bit-20180120.iso do not match. I've downloaded the file three different times and I keep getting the following sums:

md5 587675f6947aa086394085488844ae72
sha 256 6c6c214b09fef868ee49e1c0df6915afc827756d803821a7aa6878463e1c15e2

On the checksum file they are listed as:

649ca81770ece7e7b8aa85bfeeabf3d7 - md5sum
472448b24b65488791a9ffba5a8f6f8e0df8ec0e962d2fc5f15d60882d4d06b7 - sha256sum

Is this just a mistake on the checksum file, I hope?

Hi Ron. Welcome!

First...I'm sorry for any grief this caused you. I'm not sure how it happened, but it is a mistake that I made in putting the wrong numbers in the checksum file. The correct md5 and sha1 are given on Sourceforge by clicking the "information" icon (on the far right) next to the file. The sha256 isn't given on Sourceforge, but mine matches what you posted too...so the download is good.

Second...thank you for pointing this out! I'll fix the file on Sourceforge.

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

I always verify the md5, sha1, and sha256 sums when I upload to SourceForge (or anywhere else). I've personally never had a different resulting checksum that varied from those produced from the build. My error was in making the checksum file. I somehow copied the wrong checksums into the file when creating it.

Geesh...I wonder how many folks may have been deterred from installing this particular .iso due to my poor oversight...

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

After some digging i found out that .

The usual reason why this happens is that the files are not transferred in binary, but in ASCII mode.

This is supported by the FTPClient documentation for FTPClient.setFileType(), which states:

The default file type is FTP.ASCII_FILE_TYPE if this method is never called.

To transfer your file in binary mode using FTPClient, call the setFileType before uploading:

 FTPClient.setFileType(FTP.BINARY_FILE_TYPE);

The session will stay in binary mode until you change it again.

By the way, timestamps are not an issue, they do not affect the MD5 hash.

In the end , there is nothing wrong with the iso just the way was uploaded so nothing got deteriorated the iso is the same just differs the way you upload the file.

Hope this will make you feel a bit better.

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

Sometime later this week, I will "hopefully" be posting links for .isos for the "normal" MiyoLinux based on Ascii...by normal, I mean they are Openbox only...no panel switcher. These will be "testing" .isos. I've pretty much gotten rid of the bugs, but I'm still working on the delay during the boot sequence (AFTER installation); in which, there is a delay while it's searching for a connection to eth0 if a user is using a wireless network. The fix is quick and easy after installation, but I wish I could head it off at the pass so that users don't have to take care of it themselves. Nothing I've tried up to this point has stopped it.

The .isos will contain all of the MiyoLinux accessories (except for the panel switcher). There has also been a few changes to make the system a little lighter. On my test machines, the 32 bit boots up at 68 MBs of RAM, and the 64 bit boots up at 101 MBs of RAM (your usage may vary)...not all machines are created equally. LOLOLOL!!!

My preemptive thanks to anyone who may try these out when I make them available.

Re: [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded

Here's a link to the 64 bit version. This is the one that I need the most help on.

Some here know the details, but I no longer have a 64 bit computer with wireless to do test installs on. So...

...if anyone has a spare partition on a 64 bit computer with wireless internet, and you don't mind installing this. please do. My main concern is if (after installation) the boot sequence pauses while it's searching for eth0 if using a wireless connection. I'm pretty sure that I've taken care of that, but I have no way to test it. I did fix it on the 32 bit version, and it no longer hangs during the boot process.

Thank you for any consideration. smile

If anyone has installed this on a computer with wireless, please let me know if you experienced a pause in the boot sequence (while it was searching for eth0) after installation. As I mentioned, I'm almost sure that I fixed it so that it doesn't have that pause, but I can't test it myself. Thank you. smile
