Well, today is 6/19 and now the last versions of the files are 6/17. Once again, no updates for packages.
On the server http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged/dists/ none of the InRelease, Release, or Release.gpg files in any of the folders have been updated since 14-Jun-2019. This prevents any updating or upgrading of packages.
Yes - it worked with unstable instead of ceres.
I wonder why?
When I run apt-get update I get the following:
Ign:1 http://deb.devuan.org/merged ceres InRelease
Err:2 http://deb.devuan.org/merged ceres Release
404 Not Found [IP: 131.188.12.211 80]

N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
This has been happening for two days now.
I tried reading man apt-secure but the only solution I could find there was to accept insecure repositories, which is not recommended.
In think something has to be done with the repository.
The original issue I posted in the first message has been resolved. Ceres, Beowulf, and Ascii are now all updating and upgrading packages correctly.
I cannot speak for the installation issues others have mentioned here.
Thank you.
I used my browser to search http://deb.devuan.org/merged/dists/ then I checked the directories ceres, beowulf, and ascii.
They all showed that the files InRelease, Release, and Release.gpg had last modified dates of 2019-04-17, so they have not been updated for 5 days so far.
Thanks for the try Rolf, but I commented out the ascii line and reran apt-get update. Nothing changed. That's not it.
on ceres I get :
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ceres main contrib non-free
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii main
on beowulf I get:
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb [ allow-insecure=yes ] http://deb.devuan.org/merged beowulf main contrib non-free
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb [ allow-insecure=yes ] http://deb.devuan.org/merged beowulf-updates main contrib non-free

/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-security main

and on ascii I get:

I am still only getting Hits and no Gets on apt-get update.
Should I change the http to https everywhere?
For several days now, when I run apt-get update on beowulf, or ceres, it comes back with just Hits, and no Gets. The corresponding debian versions of buster and sid have been getting package upgrades, but these are not appearing in the devuan lists. The same thing is happening with ascii, but I do not have a corresponding debian system to compare it to.
I have trouble believing that all these debian upgraded packages require devuan modifications.
I am using the resource of http://deb.devuan.org/merged.
Was there something about the resource that I was supposed to modify?
Otherwise, it seems like the merge is not working.
Thank you KatolaZ. I was glad to see at least some acknowledgment of the problem.
I am quite aware of the nature of the unstable version. I am not wringing my hands in despair. I just use my virtual machine of ceres to watch what is happening, and to check out more recent versions of software.
The complete wipe out of my desktop was something that needed to be reported, that is all.
I ran apt-get upgrade --autoremove today on my ceres system which uses the xfce4 desktop. During the upgrade I got the message that wicd was turned off. The autoremove removed 109 packages. When I reboot all I get now is the command prompt login. When I try to run apt-get install task-xfce-destop I get:

I ran apt-mark showhold, but got nothing back.
I tried adding ascii-backports to my source.list file. I still get the same response to sudo apt-get -s install policykit-1

libpam-systemd seems to be the problem. Perhaps the workaround for the systemd dependency has not been addressed yet?
Yes, I understand beowulf is not released yet, which is why I have not posted any comments before, but since it has been brought up....
I had a related problem with a fresh installation of ascii with xfce4. The shutdown and restart buttons were disabled on the action button menu in the panel. Based on things I had seen in other forums, I installed policykit-1. It pulled in a few other packages. After a logout and login the problem was fixed.
After an update a few days ago, I started getting the message:
The following packages have been kept back:
openssh-client openssh-server openssh-sftp-server
If I type sudo apt-get install openssh-server I get:
The following additional packages will be installed:

Suggested packages:

Recommended packages:
libpam-systemd
The following packages will be upgraded:
openssh-client openssh-server openssh-sftp-server
3 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
When a package is held back it usually means I need to reinstall it because it requires a new package dependency. This does not seem to be the case here.
Is it safe for me to reinstall or should I just leave it alone for a while and hope it gets resolved?
whenever I try to apt-get update on either jessie or ascii it is unable to connect to amprolla.devuan.org which I think is essential to the whole merged devuan/debian thing.
Thank you @golinux. I did what you suggested.
The rpi3 img version of Devuan for the raspberry pi 3 now works on my machine, but the green light on the board does not flash to show disk access. It blinks once briefly during boot and then never lights again. It is not essential, but the flashing green light does let you know that the device is doing something. It does flash when I use the raspbian operating system.
Since I cannot ascribe this problem to a particular package, I do not know how to use the bug reporting system for this minor problem.
