#26 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [ SOLVED ] cant run command from commandsline » 2020-06-26 09:26:44

Hi LarsH,

well if you read my post, you can see that

su -

is not working on my Beowulf.

Distro: Devuan GNU/Linux 3 (beowulf)

If I use the recommended long form

su --login

I even get a root-shell without a password.
And you are writing:"it is not a bug but a deliberate change from debian."
Well if that is so it must be changed again!
I don't want debian stuff of that nature!
Last not least: "su" ist still working on my PC as usual!
Warmest regards

#27 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [ SOLVED ] cant run command from commandsline » 2020-06-26 09:12:16

btw
I had similar problems with installed programs (since Beowulf) as i.e.  "dmidecode"

invoking "dmidecode" led to "program not found".
But

apt-get install dmidecode

led to

dmidecode ist schon die neueste Version (3.2-1)

meaning "is already the newest version"

Here's the kicker:
after updating no difference

but after reboot dmidecode worked as it should!
Bug or feature?

#28 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [ SOLVED ] cant run command from commandsline » 2020-06-26 08:43:59

Can't reproduce this "su -" thing

su-
bash: su-: Kommando nicht gefunden.

command not found

su -
-bash: ash: Kommando nicht gefunden.

command not found

Man-pages say:

Es wird empfohlen, stets die  Option  --login  (statt  deren
Kurzform  -)  zu verwenden

means"--login" recommended instead of shortform "-"
BUT
if I use

su --login

I get a root-shell without filling in my password!

Passwort:
-bash: ash: Kommando nicht gefunden

Sic!

 ~# whoami
root

I would suggest to put the thread again to

not solved

and inform security

Thank you for the reply!
I thought, it would be something similar to STAR,  Login: starlive Pwd: live.
I'll by me a new stick, tomorrow. Then I will go on again.
greetings

#30 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » USB Multiboot » 2019-12-29 10:13:21

Well I put that img (dev1usb_2019-03-28.img) to a stick and it runs ok until  I have a black screen leaving the prompt blinking after
"login:"

I thought there might be a hint in any READme, but couldn't find one.

This was no try to create a multiboot system though it definitely has several different Devuan distros on board which can be selected during the boot process.

#31 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » USB Multiboot » 2019-12-28 17:18:32

@golinux
well, dev1usb seems to run. But I can't get further than login:

Please give me a hint, the readme is quite frugal.

#32 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » USB Multiboot » 2019-12-28 16:25:16

rufus? Isn't that for "He Who Cannot Be Named"?

#33 Re: Off-topic » Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas » 2019-12-25 07:41:13

Same to you!
Merry Christmas.
Thanks for your work!
Looking for a small LIVE Distro and so I got here. Distrowatch mentions a user Forum (https://sourceforge.net/p/linnix/discussion/) but the link goes nowhere.
Does STAR still exist?
CROWZ is  not mentioned yet on Distrowatch. Where can I get news on what is going on from your side?
Greetings

Thank you! That was quick.
Will test it tomorrow.

Hi,

searching a way to install more than one ISO on one  flash-drive (multiboot?).
Any kind hints  out there?

Tried unetbootin and got some strange (I don't understand them) errors:

add apt-repository ppa:gezakovacs/ppa  ==> bash: add: Kommando nicht gefunden (command not found)

I installed beforehand:

python-software-properties,
software-properties-common,

multisystem  (can not be found)

apt-add-repository 'deb http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot all main'

Hi,

I had difficulties running  DVD's on my system so I added:

deb http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii main non-free contrib
deb-src http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii main non-free contrib

deb http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-security main non-free contrib
deb-src http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-security main non-free contrib

deb http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-updates main non-free contrib
deb-src http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-updates main non-free contrib

to my sources.list (everything is fine now, DVD's are showing)

But shouldn't I use instead of us.deb.devuan.org, the german de.deb.devuan.org?

#deb http://de.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii main non-free contrib
#deb-src http://de.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii main non-free contrib

#deb http://de.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-security main non-free contrib
#deb-src http://de.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-security main non-free contrib

#deb http://de.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-updates main non-free contrib
#deb-src http://de.deb.devuan.org/merged/ ascii-updates main non-free contrib

I tried that out and got a long list of errors about double entries.

Do not understand the HOW and WHY
Thanks for help

Oh, I forgot:

whinging like a spoilt little baby

That was good too.
Hope ralph.ronnquist doesn't grumble now.

Thanks a lot for the answers in this thread. It helped me to find out, why my totem player did not play DVD's.
But it helped me too through the day (I was in a kind of stinking mood, because I wanted to watch that film and not seeking errors)

I must say that you're living up to your nick.

That was good! ;-)
(Did you look up "crankypuss"? I did:

even better:

Thanks again for both: help and laughter

#40 Re: Installation » Which installer should I use? » 2019-04-09 19:45:40

I took the amd64_netinst.iso.

Thanks a lot.
Everything seems fine.
(Except the loading procedure).
Which logs should I look up (no log expert)?

#41 Re: Installation » Which installer should I use? » 2019-04-09 14:14:04

hi,

sorry for the late answer.
My question (more verbose)
Is it more use to take:
devuan_ascii_2.0.0_i386_netinst.iso
or should I take :
devuan_ascii_2.0.0_amd64_netinst.iso

Anyway, I am experiencing some hardware difficulties ...
I thought it was just the hard disk, but its not yet clear, what more is all in trouble.

So any answer to the following topics are very welcome.

My machine starts for a second, shuts down again and starts a second time, after that procedure ist runs stable ==> motherboard?
Is there a way to test a motherboard?

Is there a way to test my CD-ROM drive?

RAM?

All components are a little older, I know, but before I throw it away ...
thanks in advance.
