#451 Desktop and Multimedia » (Ascii, XFCE) Easy Samba Share to Raspberry, how? » 2019-10-13 08:59:51

Hello ,

i tried to update the Libreelec on my Raspberry Pi2 by putting a file into a folder on the SDcard connected to the Raspberry.
It is recommended to be done via Samba Share, as described here

https://libreelec.wiki/accessing_libree … __sambasmb

For using the SMB shares under Ubuntu, just open a file browser on your machine, double click at the address bar and enter the following:

smb://enter_ip_address_here/

I tried this with XFCE, but it would not allow me to do it.
Then browsed quickly, and somewhere it stated that there is needed an plugin for Thunar, probably Thunar-samba-shares or thunar-samba-plugin,

but it did not find such a plugin.

Is there a way to conveniently activate this samba share on XFCE without too much configuration?

On Windows it was pretty straightforward : just typing the adress in the Windows Explorer AdressBar, and the two (PC and Raspbi) get connected.

tried today the Ascii with KDE, and on top of it i did install TDE 14 (never tried Trinity Desktop before) and i was very pleasantly surprised.
Some things did not function though (printing for example) so i went back to Ascii XFCE, which has been most stable and rapid.

#453 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » (Ascii) second monitor not recognized / graphics card AMD RX560 » 2019-10-10 11:47:03

probably this hybridizaion occured because i did choose "lightdm" as displaymanager instead of "sddm" - i did not know that sddm is the one favored by kde. it would be good if upon presented with the option of choosing a displaymanager there would be shown a bit more info on the available options.

#454 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » (Ascii) second monitor not recognized / graphics card AMD RX560 » 2019-10-10 10:56:31

Well, not so much, but for some reason i was not able to switch from LXDE to KDE as Login Manager (with KWin); effectively,
the StartLogin, the Menu was managed by LXQT and the Windows-Display-Manager and FileManager was with KDE (which i very much like, especially the older more responive kde4) -

- so i try to change to KDE altogether, and in the process i ended up performing a new install with Devuan Ascii XFCE.

I really like the responsiveness of XFCE, but for the rest i prefer KDE.

still not sure how to go on with the Desktop Environment; it would be nice to able to switch easier "on the fly" , but this time i was just not persevering enough.
KDE + LXQT is certainly a interesting match (actually i thought that i get a full KDE and a full LXQT, but somehow it got mingled together).

#455 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » (Ascii) second monitor not recognized / graphics card AMD RX560 » 2019-10-07 09:05:43

i was able to solve bis problem by enabling the "contrib" and "non-free" repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list and then updating the package list with "sudo apt-get update"

afterwards i installed with this line from the debian atihowto (under point 4.)

# apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-video-ati

the appropriate packages; now the second monitor is active!

thanks!

Hello ,

i have downgraded yesterday from Beowulf to Asciii by performing a clean install (from DVD.iso choosing LXDE + KDE as graphical desktops > now it seems i have a hybrid Devuan smile

on Beowulf both of my monitor were recognized and functioning.

Now on Asciii only one monitor is recognized.

I presume that i am missing some drivers for the graphics card RX 560.

it seems the card is recognized, but something is missing.

lspci | grep 'VGA\|3D'
08:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Baffin [Radeon RX 460] (rev e5)

Please let me know if i need to activate to some non-free repository to install the proper software.

Thank you very much.

#457 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Fail start pulseaudio in KDE Beowulf (Devuan 3) » 2019-09-22 14:53:44

what i noticed is that upon booting there is a quite delay with showing several lines

unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"

sorry for not being too precise here

thanks, this helped me too, on XFCE4. just upgraded from ascii to beowulf. nice!

#459 Re: Installation » firefox 52.9 esr » 2019-09-21 17:13:58

yes, i think so, it helps with making firefox 52.9 the preferred browser. sometimes it has to be adjusted manually, inside programs, but most of the times it seems to work, withouth the need of deinstalling firefox 60 esr.

#460 Re: Installation » firefox 52.9 esr » 2019-09-21 16:42:07

for netflix it seems only google chrome is working atm on linux devuan ascii ... streaming right now thru it. chromium and firefox don't seem to function; pipelight is no more, that used to function for firefox.

#461 Re: Installation » firefox 52.9 esr » 2019-09-21 16:40:15

to install firefox 52.9 i download it from ftp and then just change the shortlinks in "favored applications" to the firefox directory i chose to install it accordingly.

#462 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Installing printer Ecotank - cannot install "LSB" » 2019-08-20 14:27:19

Thank you very much, that was really helpful.

Downloaded the libpng12 here
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/amd6 … 0/download

and now lsb package installs, problem solved.

#463 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Installing printer Ecotank - cannot install "LSB" » 2019-08-20 08:36:45

The name of the printer driver from Epson is epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2_1.1.1-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb

#464 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Installing printer Ecotank - cannot install "LSB" » 2019-08-20 08:33:35

I am running Devuan Ascii (just installed some day ago) and i noticed this error before

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
lsb-desktop : Depends: libpng12-0 but it is not installable
Recommends: libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.6) but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Until this is not solved, there seems no way to install the epson-driver package from the homepage.

#465 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Installing printer Ecotank - cannot install "LSB" » 2019-08-18 09:25:07

Thank you, this package is already installed, and it seems the right one. The computer finds a compatible driver for "ET-4550" (previous model of ET-4750).
The printer is now installed.

Still i'd be happy if i could be able to install the "lsb" package, as this would allow me to install the official drivers (also the driver for Fax which seems missing; ).

#466 Re: Other Issues » [Solved] Installing printer Ecotank - cannot install "LSB" » 2019-08-17 22:29:14

i would either need this package to install driver

epson-inkjet-printer-escpr
(installabe on debian)

or (lsb) > preferable > but it is not installable on devuan ascii, as it seems to conflict with (lsb-desktop)
and then i could install the proper printer driver from epson

Is your mail transport agent actually working?

that i don't know. i used the same "settings" as on debian where i previously could send 2 such reports succesfully (with, i suppose, let debian chose smtp-server)

In respect of your crackling audio try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … _crackling

thanks, should problem re-surface, i will try this.

#469 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » (Reportbug Error) AudioDriver / SPDIF crackling with Firefox on Ascii » 2019-07-09 11:01:53

maybe this error is related to the installed packages "llvm"  and "clang3-9". i deinstalled the programs, the amdgpu seems working nontheless, and the crackling for now seems gone.

Hello ,

i am reporting here an error that i inserted in the program "reportbug".

The reportbug failed with the error

Connecting to reportbug.debian.org via SMTP...
SMTP send failure: {'submit@bugs.devuan.org': (550, b'relay not permitted')}.
Do you want to retry (or else save the report and exit)? [Y|n|q|?]?

.........................++

This is the problem

----------

I am using a Devuan Ascii with
Linux rich-PC 4.9.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.88-1+deb9u1 (2018-05-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux

and installed upon fresh copy the AMDGPU for Radeon RX560
with

apt install firmware-linux
apt install llvm-3.9 clang-3.9

according to this hint here
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install- … etch-linux

What i noticed is that the SPDIF/Digital Audio Connection is crackling quite heavily with Firefox Quantum.

I had installed first the newer kernel 4.9.0.9 and thought this might be related to the kernel upgrade but the crackling is shown also in the stock kernel.

Might this be related to the AMDGPU?

The Audio is showing as
"HD-Audio Generic Digital Stereo (IEC598)"

Please show me how to correctly debug the error.

Thanks

Hello ,

yesterday i wanted to watch a movie and found out that the Bluray Drive is not being recognized , not found , by Devuan.

The same drive works fine in Windows 7 and i can watch the movie.

-----
When i install Debian Stretch, it seems the drive is also not being recognized.

Today i installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and the drive is visible.

Is there something wrong with the stock Debian/Devuan CD/BDRom driver, or where could the error lie?

Thanks
