Hello ,
i have downgraded yesterday from Beowulf to Asciii by performing a clean install (from DVD.iso choosing LXDE + KDE as graphical desktops > now it seems i have a hybrid Devuan
on Beowulf both of my monitor were recognized and functioning.
Now on Asciii only one monitor is recognized.
I presume that i am missing some drivers for the graphics card RX 560.
it seems the card is recognized, but something is missing.
lspci | grep 'VGA\|3D'
08:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Baffin [Radeon RX 460] (rev e5)
Please let me know if i need to activate to some non-free repository to install the proper software.
Thank you very much.
what i noticed is that upon booting there is a quite delay with showing several lines
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
unknown lvalue something autospawn '" '"
sorry for not being too precise here
thanks, this helped me too, on XFCE4. just upgraded from ascii to beowulf. nice!
yes, i think so, it helps with making firefox 52.9 the preferred browser. sometimes it has to be adjusted manually, inside programs, but most of the times it seems to work, withouth the need of deinstalling firefox 60 esr.
for netflix it seems only google chrome is working atm on linux devuan ascii ... streaming right now thru it. chromium and firefox don't seem to function; pipelight is no more, that used to function for firefox.
to install firefox 52.9 i download it from ftp and then just change the shortlinks in "favored applications" to the firefox directory i chose to install it accordingly.
Thank you very much, that was really helpful.
Downloaded the libpng12 here
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/amd6 … 0/download
and now lsb package installs, problem solved.
The name of the printer driver from Epson is epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2_1.1.1-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
I am running Devuan Ascii (just installed some day ago) and i noticed this error before
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
lsb-desktop : Depends: libpng12-0 but it is not installable
Recommends: libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.6) but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
Until this is not solved, there seems no way to install the epson-driver package from the homepage.
Thank you, this package is already installed, and it seems the right one. The computer finds a compatible driver for "ET-4550" (previous model of ET-4750).
The printer is now installed.
Still i'd be happy if i could be able to install the "lsb" package, as this would allow me to install the official drivers (also the driver for Fax which seems missing; ).
i would either need this package to install driver
epson-inkjet-printer-escpr
(installabe on debian)
or (lsb) > preferable > but it is not installable on devuan ascii, as it seems to conflict with (lsb-desktop)
and then i could install the proper printer driver from epson
Is your mail transport agent actually working?
that i don't know. i used the same "settings" as on debian where i previously could send 2 such reports succesfully (with, i suppose, let debian chose smtp-server)
In respect of your crackling audio try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … _crackling
thanks, should problem re-surface, i will try this.

maybe this error is related to the installed packages "llvm" and "clang3-9". i deinstalled the programs, the amdgpu seems working nontheless, and the crackling for now seems gone.
the installed firefox is from the repo Mozilla Firefox 60.7.2
It seems that the crackling goes away after some time;
Hello ,
i am reporting here an error that i inserted in the program "reportbug".
The reportbug failed with the error
Connecting to reportbug.debian.org via SMTP...

Do you want to retry (or else save the report and exit)? [Y|n|q|?]?

This is the problem
----------
I am using a Devuan Ascii with
Linux rich-PC 4.9.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.88-1+deb9u1 (2018-05-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux
and installed upon fresh copy the AMDGPU for Radeon RX560
with
apt install firmware-linux
apt install llvm-3.9 clang-3.9
according to this hint here
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install- … etch-linux
What i noticed is that the SPDIF/Digital Audio Connection is crackling quite heavily with Firefox Quantum.
I had installed first the newer kernel 4.9.0.9 and thought this might be related to the kernel upgrade but the crackling is shown also in the stock kernel.
Might this be related to the AMDGPU?
The Audio is showing as
"HD-Audio Generic Digital Stereo (IEC598)"
Please show me how to correctly debug the error.
Thanks
Thnks , i don't know what happened, but upon a new installation of Devuan now the CD/DVD/BD-ROM is being shown correctly and recognized.
Can be Closed.
the drive is from LG CH12NS40
Hello ,
yesterday i wanted to watch a movie and found out that the Bluray Drive is not being recognized , not found , by Devuan.
The same drive works fine in Windows 7 and i can watch the movie.
-----
When i install Debian Stretch, it seems the drive is also not being recognized.
Today i installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and the drive is visible.
Is there something wrong with the stock Debian/Devuan CD/BDRom driver, or where could the error lie?
Thanks
this is my favorite extension which is no longer supported by firefox quantum (although there are similar ones available, but less good functional)
https://github.com/antoniy/mpv-youtube-dl-binding
i have not heard of any big security holes in Firefox ESR; i put functionality first, and on Windows i use Kaspersky.
KDE is my favorite Linux Desktop Environment, but haven't used quite some time now, due mostly computing on Windows.
i like the functionality, but the newer Graphics (especially in Ubuntu) i found overbloat and less responsive (especialy when compared to Trusty).
EDIT: i just found another elegant mpv player that does quite the same as above similarly for firefox quantum!
firefox : i just keep the newest versoin from repo installed (most of times) and download the .tar.gz2 from the firefox ftp archive.
then in change in about:config
xpinstall.signatures.required
xpinstall.whitelist.required
bot to "false"
and i am good to go with installing the legacy extensions.
I mostly downloaded it from their homepage with the corresponding Extension Pack for the release
H_o_a_S .. thanks for the clarification . I am not sure if Firefox 60 ESR would still work with alsa-only, but 52 probably does. Tried apulse (for firefox and skype if i remember correctly) but i didn't seem a stable solution.
Anyway, i am still using FF52.9 ESR because some extensions i rely on are no more compatible with the newer versions of FF.
