Thanks,

Attachments are not allowed on the forum.  We hope to have something similar to http://paste.debian.net/ someday.  But for now please chose a third party document posting site and link to it in your post.

If you don't know the answer by now, you're not paying attention so I'm not going to repeat myself.

if documentation were put in right place . . .

This fragment is somewhat intelligible.  Documentation is important.  We all know that.  It also needs to be written.  It doesn't write itself.  As to where is the right place?  Well, that depends . . .

"babysit"'s dont ask so many to the "dev"'s ok, more respect to the users AGAIN!

I have no idea what you're trying to say here but I do know that you end by again wrongly judging and and insulting those of us working so hard on a project that you bitch about in nearly every post.  Some gratitude for the tremendous effort it's taken to get this far would be appropriate.  But then finding anything positive or remotely helpful in one of your posts is the last thing I'd ever expect.  If you don't like it here and have such a low estimation of our efforts, please move on elsewhere . . .

That can't be correct!

Have you filed a bug report?  Or tried to contact a dev on #devuan or #devuan-dev?

Did the "or" part...

Yeah saw it in the backlog and just now connected it to you.  wink   I can't remember if it was actually solved. (Too much to remember . . .)  A bug report is a more permanent way of recording it.  irc logs quickly fade into oblivion.

Since the devs don't have time to babysit this forum, I took the initiative to ask for you.  Here's the answer:

<golinux> You might want to have a quick look at this: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=3675#p3675
<Centurion_Dan> we don't provide rsync access to the packages at this stage.

You might want to read more about amprolla.  It's just a search away if you would care to try:

Maybe try logging out and back in?  Always looking for the easiest solution . . .

#3132 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [MiyoLinux] Menu fix if a user has upgraded to Ascii... » 2017-07-26 01:56:28

Was a reinstall even necessary?  I have switched out config files and maybe I'll have to restart the app but have never had to reinstall.

1. Do you plan a page comparable to "http://packages.debian.org/"? I regularly have the need to find which package a specific file is inside. As long as I use jessie, the results from Debian will be good enough, but I assume as soon as I switch to ascii, there will be no workaround.

Someone is working on providing package info.  WIP is here: http://devuanpackages.viralds.it/releases

afuerst wrote:

2. Do you plan an overview of the status of the releases? For example: just because I'm curious, I created a VM, made a fresh install of jessie and upgraded to ascii. I have the feeling ascii is far from being stable (which is not surprising me!), but I don't find a place I could verify my feeling.

There is no status overview available but there have been plenty of discussions here and on irc.  rsyslog is one of the problems.  Search https://botbot.me/freenode/devuan/ for the workaround until that pkg is fixed.  But many are using ASCII and even testing alternate inits on it.  Depends on your use case, of course.

#3134 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Dell XPS 13 9360 ("Developer Edition") and ascii or ceres vs Debian 9 » 2017-07-25 06:03:38

Keep in mind that ASCII is the equivalent of Debian Stretch.  And atm there is no 'testing' option available on Devuan (except for sid).  Eventually Beowulf will track Buster but it is not set up at this time.

DEVUAN ITS FOR USERS OR FOR THE FORUM ADMINS AND FRIENDS?

Devuan is for anyone - there are many use cases - and your insinuations and accusations are hostile and insulting.   Please recalibrate you attitude meter if you want to continue to post here.

Some of your work may be be salvageable when we can find time to sort it out.  But the effort required may exceed the usefulness of the material.  Currently it is too rough and unpolished to be on the wiki proper for reasons stated elsewhere.

wel in nay case.. well done documentation are very disperse and not consisten

The wiki is in the process of being very thoughtfully restructured.  Right now it is mostly in outline format  with current content moved to more suitable locations.  Eventually all the missing pieces will appear.

mckaygerhard wrote:

I did not see or deal with any of that as I only recently started to pay much attention to the wiki.  It was handled by the wiki admin.  But I have seen some of it in the in the versioning and I am still seeing your 'corrections' of "major" to "mayor" here and there.  "Mayor" in English is the title of an elected official who runs a local town/city government.

#3141 Re: Documentation » Devuan Documentation (structural draft) » 2017-07-24 17:03:41

You will find your contributions to the wiki here.

They may or may not be relocated elsewhere.  The technical information would have to be vetted for accuracy.  And language use is often incomprehensible with many spelling and grammatical errors (as is illustrated by your post above).  Without knowing what you are trying to say, it is impossible to edit to clarify.   Your offerings are also peppered with judgmental assessments that have no place in documentation and would need to be removed (as in this post).  To do all of that is a monumental task so will take some time to sort out.  To make matters worse you were editing previous contributions in a negative way by introducing more language errors and 'opinions' which were degrading the wiki content.

For now please keep posting to your website to make that information available.

#3142 Re: Devuan » ZFSonLinux binaries like Ubuntu?? » 2017-07-24 15:47:59

Contrib and non-free options are available in Devuan but not enabled by default.  Have you checked to see if ZFS is there?

You might post your question to the dng mail list or on the #devuan-dev irc channel.  The devs don't have time to come to the forum often.

#3143 Re: Devuan » Stretch is coming, Devuan status backported or up to date packages » 2017-07-24 15:43:00

Devuan Jessie will mirror Debian "oldstable" until its EOL several years from now.   Relax and enjoy the stability that 'just works'.

Before Jessie is EOL, ASCII will be released.  There is no ETA for when that will be.

#3144 Re: Devuan » ZFSonLinux binaries like Ubuntu?? » 2017-07-24 15:29:51

You might want to look at some of the chatter in the #devuan irc logs.  There is also one old thread on the mail list.   If/when the binaries are available in Debian they will come to Devuan.  Or perhaps someone will adapt them natively.  Currently, there are other more pressing issues that we're dealing with so not a priority.

#3145 Re: Devuan » Stretch is coming, Devuan status backported or up to date packages » 2017-07-24 15:03:33

oldstable (Jessie) is not "deprecated".  It is a viable LTS release.

If you want the latest, upgrade to ASCII and deal with the breakage.

I have no idea what a 'craker' is.  You might try to offer solutions rather than just complain and denigrate our efforts here.

#3146 Re: Devuan » Stretch is coming, Devuan status backported or up to date packages » 2017-07-24 14:48:28

For sure ASCII will be released before Debian Stretch moves to old stable.  [/endsarcasm]

Anyone who is dissatisfied here can always move elsewhere . . .

Translated automatically.

There will never be a Devuan Stretch!

Debian Stretch = Devuan ASCII - planet nr.3568 - and is now in Devuan 'testing'.  There is no date for the 'stable' release but there will be some testing isos released hopefully soon.  It is also possible to upgrade to ASCII from Jessie but read carefully about possible issues before you do that.
