I now wanted to install Devuan Excalibur on my tablet, the netinstall iso from Daedalus installed fine, but didn't start after installation.
So I used the live install iso from Daedalus. Everything was fine so far. After upgrading to Excalibur, however, the OS always starts with an open "nameless" window. This window takes up the entire screen, has a black background and no scroll bar. The title bar is probably under the panel bar.
I have to explicitly close this window to make the desktop visible.
Task manager and autostart entries do not reveal any unusual processes.
If I want to open a new instance of this window, it fails due to the rights (see image)
How do I find out what the cause is, how can I stop it?
I used devuan Daedalus (now Excalibur) with LXDE and Networkmanager and it works.
Try this:
If you are using Netinstall anyway, deselect everything.
After rebooting, install LXDE and Networkmanager as follows:
sudo apt install lxde-core network-manager-gnome
oder
sudo apt install --no-install-recommends lxde-core
sudo apt install network-manager-gnome
The second is my way, because I don't know what is in the meta package lxde-core for recommendations
@bigcat
Thank you, that works and it is in any case the better solution.
For me (lxqt), the sudo pm-suspend works, but only after a new boot.
If you (in one session) first try to go in suspend with the mate utils, then pm-suspend has the same behavior. Thats important.
I have added in sudoers file
mikey ALL=NOPASSWD: /sbin/pm-suspend, /sbin/pm-hibernate
So you can make a button (desktop, panel) with "sudo pm-suspend"
I think this is a bug and has to report.
Thanks for the tip.
I think it's a bug, where could I report it?
Hello,
Unfortunately, Suspend-to-RAM in Excalibur does not work.
All LEDs shine and the fan continues.
The same problem is in Ceres.
In Daedalus it was still flawless.
But when I install pm-utils and enter "sudo pm-suspend", the Suspend-to-RAM works.
Is that already known? Is there a workaround and (if no) where can you report this.
How could I change the behavior of the power buttons to the command pm-suspend.
Thanks for the given advices.
As I wrote in my first post:
The attempt to install a more recent version from Debian fails due to missing dependencies.
Thanks.
Falkon is not on the list.
How could I download the Falkon package from Excalipur?
At Debian you can access the repos in the internet browser.
Is there a similar package search here?
Yes indeed, the version of Falkon in Daedalus is the same as in Debian Stable/Bookworm.
I also don't think Falkon depends on systemd.
But Daedalus came out a year ago.
It cannot be that an internet browser that can be installed via the normal repos is already outdated.
What should be in one or two years?
It's not just the messages, e.g. t-online email can no longer be used properly.
P.S.: I cannot find this list of forbidden packages.
Maybe I would have to switch to testing, but I thought that internet browsers are always kept up to date in the stable release.
What would you do?
Hello, I installed Devuan Daedalus and use falkon as internet browser.
Unfortunately, the current version of falkon in Daedalus is out of date.
I get a corresponding warning more and more when I visit websites.
The attempt to install a more recent version from Debian fails due to missing dependencies.
What can I do?
Thanks.
