Joking:
“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise learns from the mistakes of others.”
I am the fool.
VLC, VirtualBox,
Some menu bars disappeared from the applciations which are always at the top of the applications, and I was confused for a long time.
At last I found out the cause and the solution.
The cause: Remove the Panel by accidently
The solution: On the Desktop(right click)->Add Panel->Applciation Menu Bar.
OK.
I hope this mesage may be helpful for some people some day.
devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop, upgraded from devuan_4.0,
session: KDE_Plasma(x11)
At first, I bought a ubuntu_linux pc from Dell,
when I found out a "shameless report" folder in the ubuntu, I chose Debian.
Then one day, I deleted qBittorrent, and reinstalled qBittorrent, some problems occurred, and the error message is bullsh*t,
I searched on the internet, and found out the "nosystemd.org" website,
I started to choose Devuan, and tried other no systemd linux.
Yes, the systemd is just like a black hole, and some programs can only run with the systemd or pulseaudio.
It is a pity.

The Road Not Taken
BY ROBERT FROST
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/ … -not-taken
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
There is no problem, I am the problem. I do not know how to remove icon on the Panel(Widget).
I have solved the newly occurred problem by remove the Panel and add the Panel(Default Panel), then can add and delete(remove) the icons on the Panel(Widget).
1. Search an application,
2. Add to the Panel(Widget),
3. Right click the icon(On the Panel/Widget)
4. Enter Edit Mode,
5. Cursor floats on the same icon,
6. then appears "Remove", and click, OK.
I have tested it in the virtualbox, same as the host pc, and found out it is true.
devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop.iso
session: KDE_Plasma
Thank you.
Hi, uncomment (#) this line in your sources.list...
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
...and, you may remove the first line with just "main", as it is now in the un-commented line. It won't hurt but will cut down on the noise (complaints) in logs and on screen when running
apt update
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
You may misunderstand me.
I really used "no-free" sources.list and updated.
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
then I commented out "no-free" sources.list.
Now, I did it again. Nothing changed.
Kaffeine only cannot play some special mp4 file well.
I give up the problem.
Thank you for your kindness.
Perhaps you need to write down the full name of your Devuan.iso, the session(Gnome/KDE_plasma/Mate/XFCE, etc),
and how you installed the firefox,
for example:devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop.iso
so other people may test it again.
Thank you.
I found a way to delete the icon on the Panel(Widget), but a new problem occurred, I will test it in the virtualbox to find out the reason.
virtualbox os
devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop.iso
session: KDE_Plasma
I deleted the file folder(plasma_icons), and created a new same name file folder, then I can add and delete icons on the Panel(Widget).
Maybe it is not the real reason.
If I was wrong, please correct me.
/home/UserX/.local/share/plasma_icons
Thank you.
Can this be caused by missing firmware for the graphics device?
If so, and since you upgraded from chimaera, is 'non-free-firmware' in sources.list?
Thank you.
My sources.list is as below:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-updates main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-security main
#deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-backports main
#deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
I used "no-free" sources for the first,second...times, but later, I commented out "no-free‘ sources.
Today, I used "no-free“ sources again, but Kaffeine does not play some special mp4 files well, many mosaics.
Any way, I can use Kaffeine to play other mp4 files.
Thank you.
HelenSmith wrote:use command line to change the Kaffeine settings?
I haven't used kaffeine in about 500 years, but the bottom of the readme provides some hints WRT passing options to libvlc and/or setting the VDPAU driver.
Thank you.
I added "export VDPAU_DRIVER=none" to " /home/UserX/.bashrc" ,
but using Kaffeine to play the mp4 file, there are still some mosaics.
So, I will not use Kaffeine for a while.
"not work well(same as VLC): kaffeine(VLC based mp4 player).
VLC: Hardware-accelerated decoding-> Disable"
------------------------------------------------------------
I did not find a way to change the Kaffeine mp4 player default settings.
How to use command line to change the Kaffeine settings?
If there is no way, I will not use Kaffeine for a while.
Thank you.
I added an application icon to the Panel(Widget)/(on the bottom line of the desktop),
but cannot delete the icon from the Panel(Widget),
even if I delete the icon from "/home/UserX/.local/share/plasma_icons",
the icon is still on the Panel(Widget).
How to delete the application icon from the Panel(Widget)?
devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop, upgraded from devuan_4.0,
session: KDE_Plasma(x11)
Thank you in advance.
No,
please choose devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop.iso.
I only say I installed devuan_4.0 years ago.
Rufus can work normally to create a bootable usb.
Now I use dd(linux) to create a bootable usb.
I do not know how to partition, so I choose "All files in one partition".
Only guess:
Bios,
F2->General->Boot Sequence->Boot List Option->UEFI->save.
If there is a Windows OS in the pc/laptop, and you choose install only one system,
when install the linux iso, please choose erase the old windows system. (Back up all your files.)
I installed devuan_4.0.0_amd64_desktop.iso, and chose "All files in one partition".
P.S.
Using torrent file can quickly download the iso, and can choose the only one iso, you want to download.
Please try again.
Use another pc or smart phone to see the steps of installation guide, and install the iso again.
Please write down the details of the steps of installation.
I follow the below guide,
https://www.devuan.org/os/documentation … installing
diffrent from yours:
https://www.devuan.org/os/documentation … s/live-gui
You can check the bios, to see if there are any boot system.
It is hard to guess the reason.
You need to write down the detail of the steps of installation.
Maybe you did not install the iso in the pc/laptop, you chose to install the iso in the usb?
If you are using a desktop pc, maybe your pc button cell battery is out of power?
I'm not downloading a 700MB file from such an unreasonably slow filehost.
That aside, your problem is likely down to hardware accelerated (VAAPI) decoding. Does VLC render the file correctly if you disable "Hardware-accelerated decoding" on the "Input/Codecs" settings page?
Thank you. It works. Now VLC plays the same mp4 file normally.
VLC->Tools->Preferences->Input/Codecs->Input&Codecs Settings-> Codecs->Hardware-accelerated decoding-> Disable(choose: Automatic/VDPAU video decoder/Disable)->Save.
Many thanks to you all.
Revised:
I used ffmpeg to cut the mp4 file to the first 30 seconds.

I uninstalled vlc, then installed debian deb file:vlc_3.0.18-2_amd64.deb
Open the same file, nothing changed, there are some mosaics, the pictures are not acceptable.
It is strange that the same vlc version works well in MXlinux-23.

Recently I have successfully updated my pc from Devuan 4.0 to Devuan 5.0.
There are some problems, but all solved by uninstall and reinstall some applications.
Only VLC, when play some mp4 files(not all mp4 files), the pictures sometimes(not always) are blurry, many mosaics.
Yes, there are sounds, but the pictures sometimes are not acceptable.
VLC version 3.0.18 Vetinari (3.0.13-8-g41878ff4f2)
Maybe the problem occurred before I updated my pc to Devuan 5.0.
Playing the same mp4 file, I have tried some mp4 players:
work well: mpv/smplayer/gnome videos/parole/celluloid/xine/dragon player,
not work well(same as VLC): kaffeine(VLC based mp4 player).
I tried to play the same mp4 file in the virtualbox on the same pc:
MXlinux-23
VLC version 3.0.18 Vetinari (3.0.13-8-g41878ff4f2)
Open the mp4 file, at the beginning, there are some mosaics, but quickly disappeared, and works normally.
Rocky Linux 9.2 (Blue Onyx)
VLC media player 3.0.19 Vetinari (revision )
There are no problem to play the same mp4 file.
In the Devuan 5.0 and MXlinux-23, VLC is the same version,
How to let Devuan 5.0 VLC play some mp4 files well?
Thank you in advance.
