I just now looked at the repositories he had listed, and yeah no wonder(opensuse, brave, debian, etc) with all that and any xfce session/session manager updates going on.. lest frankenstein more like a twitchy, dissappearing boxes, desktop panel reloading on every boot.  sources.list and understanding what revolves around it is important, I always keep as basic and simple as possible. I use xcfe properly on all my normal end use desktops.

Took the words right outa my mouth. I was watching and thinking oh No, He has a frankenstien rewire job with advanced linux commands being thrown at him.  Then you got wise, yet still good to know the meaning of commands above.

Check the settings on the TV itself:  Refresh rates, timers, and ALL general settings first.  See if they match refresh rates under devuan display settings.

Its funny how when companies make everything "their OWN" that the open-source community gets left the option of taking that wayside project and personalizing its commitment to a whole-nother level.

#6 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » HP DV6 no headphone audio » 2021-01-03 04:30:22

I also use a Pavilion, they have sound issues sometimes with the headphone jacks.  Even after tampering with alsamixer, mixers, and hw switches sometimes they get stuck. Strange, but Check this on resetting the audio.  Yeah its confusing but HP's pavilions have this headphone jack sticky bug.  Resetting the laptop itself is simple...

Try a hard reset:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks … -p/1965743

1- Remove power cord and battery, and any peripherals.

2- Press and hold power button for 30 seconds(some say 15 sec., or up to 1 minute). This depletes any electricity left on board.

3- Reinstall only power cord for first startup.(some say put battery back too[my dv6 i leave battery out])

4- Power on and check

/*    If you continue to have issues, it may be your battery is out/going out.  Especially when only the AC adapter is in WITHOUT battery and all is running well, including audio.  Thats when battery starts to cause issues(ACPI and all quarks of kinds.)

#7 Re: Installation » wicd broke when I changed unstable from stable, how do I install NM? » 2020-12-20 06:18:41

The advice Head_On_A_Stick has given is a desktop linux users' gem.  Follow up on those commands.  wpa_supplicant and wpa_passphrase are basically a network manager. The other commands turn on, setup, and give info for your wireless card.
The ip command is powerful.    ip link show wlan0
Also wpa_cli is another helpful utility.    wpa_cli list_networks
Dhclient command will work and it sits in background.  You may need to restart your network(or computer) if things get confusing, then go back at it.

That knowledge is everything you need to know! study the ENTIRE post for not needing dependence on a broken network manager(gui).

"device /dev/sd<x> not available in udev database even after waiting for 1000000 microseconds.<another timeout>"

I've gotten this message trying to install grub in a chroot. It goes away in a couple minutes. I'm unable to reproduce it by booting the live-iso from usb.

Just tried a few more times:
Sometimes it boots immediately, and very quickly, without this message. In those cases, system seems to keep working for as long as I wish.

And sometimes the message gets displayed. For the cases when it does, waiting a couple of minutes (2 full circles) helps - the system boots. However, for the one case it did boot after this significant timeout, the system FROZE a couple of minutes into the live session. No caps-lock working, no soft reboot, just power off and reset helped.

One more thing I've noticed: when boot goes ok, the console font is changed from the bios font to the standard debian thin letters font.
When I get these timeout messages, the font on console is unchanged from the standard bios-vga font.

The font change happens(when it does) a couple of steps before the messages start appearing.
When the messages appear, it is always in the "Starting lvm volume groups" phase.

edit: typo

I'm getting the same thing from live-dvd and then freezes at xfce desktop.  But, when trying Live[load to RAM] boot option it works fine.  Gonna look into more.  Booting off external dvd.  thought it might be cause SWAP partition is bypassed udev waiting for 1000000 microseconds, yet is enough system memory(4G) .

update: same thing: no keyboard or mouse(can't goto console), but still mounts external devices.
first sign of any issues on default LIVE boot are:

[warn] compatibility with symlink from /etc/mtab to /proc/mounts . . . warning.
    (loads kernel modules.etc..)
    then
[....] Setting up LVM Volume Groups..WARNING:  Device /dev/loop0 not initialized in udev even after waiting 10000000 microseconds.

anyhah, I got Devuan ascii working fine and want a dedicated partition for Beowolf.  Maybe I'll try and install it anyhow just to see if it works on HD. thank you and good breaks.

EDIT/Update:  Installed to HD non chroot/dedicated partition and it works flawlessly(so far all good)

#9 Re: Documentation » Multiple Sound Cards » 2018-08-29 04:59:54

Thank You for your fix.

    bash -c 'echo "options snd_hda_intel index=1,0" > /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf'

everything looked fine after devuan install with the sound card drivers and alsa, but no sound.  Pulseaudio could not find a device, after 3 days of working on it i tried the above line and... Ego zero, Internet 1, and victory is mine smile Thanks again.
