Jessie would move to Stretch, so in a way, Devuan Jessie should move to Ascii. Otherwise, we'd be sort of left behind, don't you think so?
How long is LTS? 5 years from now, or until Debian Stretch comes out?
If the base distro is only up to RC2, how have these spins been derived? Conversion from DebIan? Are there (DIY?) scripts/checklists for that?
…
You can make a derivative from a release even before RC2. You install it, add whatever you like, configure it, and if you think it would be useful for others, make a live installable iso and upload it. There are few such distros uploaded to sourceforge even around May 2016. They are still good, for all you have to do is update and upgrade, and they'd become up to date. One good thing with Devuan is that such upgrade doesn't break your install. There are even Ascii (Testing) ones available.
People make "derivatives," because they like (love) Devuan.

Running Jessie. The problem happens when trying to upgrade Jessie.
I suppose the question has to be asked here. How to get out of this problem?

Had tried all Nelum Devuan distros from the day they were released. Today, I installed Nelum-Dev1-XFCE-Testing in another laptop. It was released on 2016-05-31. It got installed smoothly. Then, I upgraded it to the present (repo) state. Upgrade went smoothly. In my other laptop, this Testing Nelum-Dev1 was working without a hitch since the May last year. Today's download and upgrade was just to check how it'd work. Lovely distro!
