Re: Music

Now you've gotten me into nostalgia.  Best jam of all time!  No gimmicks or theater.  Just music.   Ah, memories of the Fillmore with the Dead, Jefferson Airplane and all the Bay Area bands.  The world looked so hopeful back then . . .

Re: Music

Used to do a lot of ethnic dancing back then.   Balkan was always my fav.  There's nothing quite like a good gankino.  Now full circle 40 years later to this.  Hypnotic . . .

Ah! And you had sunshine and nice weather! Some of us had to wait for them to come over so that we could see them in the pouring rain ...

But it was worth the wait ;-)

Re: Music

Here are two pieces I like:

Aphex Twin – Vordhosbn

An elaborate blend of ambient music and cut up drum 'n' bass.

Lazerhawk – The King of the Streets

A track of 80s retro-style synth music. I especially like the video the uploader created, not because I'm into cars, but because its visual style is quite different from the sci-fi action comic aesthetic that often goes with this kind of music.

Re: Music

I'm partial to cute electronic music ("synthpop") with female vocals. Treble turned up all the way.

Sally Shapiro is one of my favorites: He Keeps Me Alive.

Freezepop is also very good: Lazy.

Re: Music

@dxrobertson: Brubeck is awesome, been enjoying his flavour of jazz since the late 1960's, never gets old and great to know that others appreciate his style.

cheers

Re: Music

@zephyr I recently discovered Brubeck.  Seeking a certain jazz sound, the '64 and '66 sessions are exactly what I was looking for.  Thanks for the Crimson Red link; revisited and enjoyed, so good!  And Led Zep Kashmir.

@yeti- thanks for the B52 Planet Claire link.  Punk-pogo-danced to that many times, downloaded the vid and its now part of my collection.

My first contribution to this thread. 80s rock had both hard-charging guitars and great melodies.
