#1051 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Starting Samba fails using OpenRC » 2022-12-27 21:22:57

Debian has it's idiosyncrasies and on top of that Devuan has it's own to counter Debian's. It is always a good idea to read the release notes before installing or configuring.

Are we ready for a group hug?  (Slightly premature) New Year's greetings to everyone!

The AUR has an old version of the darkpurpy theme. I would update it and add the other versions but I don't generally bother with packages for themes. Just unpack them into ~/.local/share/themes/ and profit.

Problem is that putting it in userspace breaks the theming in synaptic and gparted etc. and sometimes I even run thunar as root . . .  GASP . . .

Anyway I left a note on the AUR package page with the new source URL a while ago so people can easily update it themselves.

WOW! . . . thanks HoaS.  smile

That git link is broken. Can't download anything from there.

I just DL the clearlooks-phenix theme without having to sign into my account which means that you can too!

recklessswing wrote:

Btw, wasn't there a dark mode for these themes?

Nope.

And what about pc's that don't currently use devuan? I run debian on one of my laptops and I want this theme pls.

Only the colors are altered in the clearlooks-phenix theme for devuan. It will work in debian based distros and someone found it in a secondary arch repo!

Welcome to Devuan l3u! We are a pretty mellow crowd but can have moments at times. Did you not read Head_on_a_Stick's signature? I don't consider that an excuse but it seems that HoaS thinks it is . . . big_smile

Are you aware that there are now Devuan container images on the Docker Hub? They
can be found at https://hub.docker.com/u/devuan

Thank heavens for image blockers! Hope no one with epilepsy comes to this post . . .

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked my Refracta Chimaera install and no zeitgeist package is installed.

#1061 Re: Devuan » Brave New Trusted Boot World » 2022-12-15 21:51:59

Oh joy . . . this on IRC . . .

-Unit193/Wallops- We'd like to give a hearty congratulations to the Xfce team on their 4.18 release after two years of solid work.  To read about what's new, see: https://xfce.org/about/news/?post=1671062400

I haven't looked yet but likely will be "interesting" reading. So please add that info into this discussion

#1062 Re: Devuan » Brave New Trusted Boot World » 2022-12-15 16:50:03

All options will be on the table for discussion if we decide to go there.

Perhaps it's time for a task-icewm-desktop or task-jwm-desktop package? who knows.

This has been on my mind for some time and discussed off and on. Xfce has been a wonderful ride but then Gnome2 was also. Things are constantly changing and rarely for the better. Always more complexity, more bloat and more restrictions.

But, i know this: If we have managed to make it this far, I KNOW we can figure it out, I have faith in our team. We can do this!

Happy to have you here.  smile

#1064 Re: Forum Feedback » MESSAGING issue » 2022-12-10 23:25:49

We support IRC channels on Libera which are the closest thing Devuan has to social media. Dyne does have a Devuan Twitter account but Devuan is not directly involved with it.  I think there is a Reddit account but again, Devuan has nothing to do with it.  In all the years I've been moderating this board, I don't think I've ever seen any of the "messaging" options populated by a Devuan user. Neither are social media channels mentioned often (if at all) on any of our platforms. Draw your own conclusions . . .

#1065 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] How to get hardware info » 2022-12-10 04:23:03

I am just a simple user. Install hardinfo and everything should be listed. Or I may be totally off the mark. I am still wired and everything just works so have never had to deal with your predicament. If so, apologies for the noise . . .

#1066 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » No wifi when moving to the latest Refracta. » 2022-12-09 02:33:38

Hi dp . . .

The source for the devuan installer is here. It is a real rat's nest!

#1067 Re: Forum Feedback » why close my topic!? » 2022-12-08 22:13:17

@deepforest . . . this is a technical help forum not an opinion forum.  No one is interested in your whining when you shoot yourself in the foot.

#1068 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » linux is ONE BIG TROUBLE » 2022-12-08 21:15:41

As sgage noted, you have plenty of other choices . Feel free to stop whining and move on . . .

#1069 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » linux is ONE BIG TROUBLE » 2022-12-08 20:30:21

Any tool is only as useful as the user controlling it. I think you are pointing the finger in the wrong direction. Take responsibility!!!

#1072 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » I am tired from Ceres glitches » 2022-12-03 21:44:09

Why not just start from scratch with a fresh install?

#1073 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » I am tired from Ceres glitches » 2022-12-03 20:56:22

Why are you beating yourself in the head with hammer by using an unstable release? If you want things to "just work", use the current stable release, Chimaera.

Humans think and rationalize too much. When you look through the wrong end of a telescope things get distorted so it's no surprise we are in the mess we are in . . . and have always been in. It is a mental disease that binds us to suffering. The solution is not "out there" in science or opinion but in looking inward to unravel the fantasy we create out of bare sensory experience.
