#3226 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Slim - no user, password field titles » 2017-05-05 01:58:38

Welcome to the forum!  Happy to hear you like the purpy theme. I just had a look at the slim.theme.  The problem was that the username_color was identical to the curve background color so the text was there but 'invisible'. Can't remember why we did it that way . . . maybe for a less cluttered look.  Anyway, the revised slim devuan-curve-purpy theme with a visible username and password prompt should be in the repos shortly.

#3227 Re: Other Issues » network-manager are working with slim » 2017-05-04 16:16:17

There is a systemd-free version of network-manager in the Devuan repos and I know that it is being used with no bugs filed against it.

BBCode is now available at the click of a mouse on both the quick reply and regular input areas.  So no excuse not to format your posts!

Presentation is important.  A wall of text with no visual clues to organize content is difficult to follow and may even reduce the chances of a post being read or an answer given.  We hope to build solid documentation for the Devuan community here so please be thoughtful when posting.  smile

Best policy IMO.

It's not offered as an option in this BB template? Small toolbar for the bottom that offers to tag img, url, code, quote etc.?

No. Only third party mods.  I couldn't find one compatible with our version.  rrq is looking into it.  Heck, he could probably write it himself!  Some of the recent posts are unreadable so we need to do something . . .

#3231 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » OpenVPN » 2017-04-29 15:04:03

FYI, I have put a link to a list of the BBCode tags available in FluxBB in an announcement at the top of the forum.

#3232 Re: Devuan » Ports Beyond x86/amd64/ARM » 2017-04-27 14:30:23

The limiting factor is hardware availability.  If you can supply hardware for testing, we'll be happy to try.  smile

If learning to use BBCode is a prerequisite to using this forum I am in the wrong place. This is not a criticism but a simple fact.

The only tags you are likely to need are code, b and maybe a quote here and there. Is that such a stretch?  That being said, we'll look into adding a simple formatting mod.

#3234 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Sound on KDE » 2017-04-26 14:14:08

YES!  If you can find the time would be nice if you could edit your previous posts.  Thank you!!

#3235 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Sound on KDE » 2017-04-26 06:45:40

@millpond . . . could you please use bb code tags.  It would make your post(s) so much easier to follow.  Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that's going to be handled in the Devuan isos in the next round.  So just sit back and let the Devuan team sort it for you.  smile

#3237 Re: Installation » BAD sig with Devuan Jessie 1.0.0-RC » 2017-04-24 15:20:36

It's been fixed and is in the process of being automated to eliminate such errors in the future.

#3238 Re: Devuan » Stable release » 2017-04-22 14:32:58

Hopefully, shortly thereafter.  Depends on what issues users stumble across with the RC.  Once those are fixed, we're good to go stable.

This pretty much sums up what Devuan is about:

Devuan is the Debian that was and could have been.

You can find the announcement on the devuan.org website or on the dng mail list archives..

#3241 Re: Devuan Derivatives » ZephyrLinux re-branded to Crowz » 2017-04-19 15:27:19

Welcome back!  When I put it back on the devuan site is it OK to say 'formerly known as Zephyr"?  Or is that a nono? I see you did not do that on your new site.

*edit*  The deed is done.

#3242 Re: Installation » /etc/apt/sources.list.d/devuan.list » 2017-04-18 13:58:18

Welcome Max_B . . . You might want to take a look at the bottom of this page which talks about the configuration of source repositories.  As always, be mindful when enabling repositories other than those for your specific distribution.  Many of us have been bitten by unwanted backport updates!

Welcome joril! Yes.  That should do it.

#3246 Re: Devuan Derivatives » ZephyrLinux re-branded to Crowz » 2017-04-08 15:08:56

I have sadly removed Zephyr from the derivatives list until it is released under a new name.

Unless someone thinks substituting apulse and/or ALSA is a better idea?

If this turns into a discussion regarding apulse inclusion in the Devuan repos etc.it can be moved to Discussion > Devuan.  apulse has been discussed on the dng mailing list and Steve Pusser has already gotten apluse to fool FF 52.  So it's on our radar.  If someone tries to install apluse and can't get it working then that is a legitimate Support issue.  Welcome to the forum btw.  smile

#3248 Re: Off-topic » OSS, ALSA, pulseaudio, JACK, ... » 2017-04-06 15:06:18

Well, we are 17 years later. wink  An interesting personal story but not really a Devuan support question.  Should probably get moved to OT . . .

#3249 Re: Other Issues » Packages from beyond Dev1 repos » 2017-04-06 14:58:33

@fsmithred  . . . Looks like libdvd-pkg might be a 'free' version of libdvdcss.  Do you have it in your setup and does it get the job done?

#3250 Re: Other Issues » Packages from beyond Dev1 repos » 2017-04-06 14:48:11

Somewhat Reticent wrote:

How should packages from other projects (outside Dev1 repositories) be brought in?
For example, (a dated version of) vlc is in-repo, but libdvdcss is (apparently) not.

Use repos outside of Devuan's with great care.

I have libdvdcss2 installed from:

deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org/ jessie main

You might also want to check out Steve Pusser's private repo.  It has always been a reliable and compatible source.  MX is also free of systemd! Here's his thread on FDN

Sometimes you can find things in the Devuan merged backports:

deb http://us.mirror.devuan.org/merged/ jessie-backports non-free contrib main
