Not at all, geenjeans . . . and if you give me some appropriate text pointing to the new thread, I will add it to the top of your old post with my superpowers. big_smile

#302 News & Announcements » November 27 is a day to celebrate! » 2024-11-27 15:54:20

Greetings to all!

November 27 is a very special day. It is the day that the Veteran Unix Admin collective announced their intention to fork Debian! The original announcement that was sent to the DNG mailing list is preserved on devuan.org and in the dng archives:

https://www.devuan.org/os/announce/

https://lists.dyne.org/lurker/message/2 … 3a.en.html

Additional insights can be found in some of the issues that were preserved from our old github:
https://www.devuan.org/os/gitlab-issues

Do take a walk down memory lane or if you are newer to Devuan, familiarize yourself with the creative "electricity" that has energized and sustained this project for a decade and consider offering your talents to support Devuan going forward. It has been a truly amazing journey!

May the fork be with us for many years to come! big_smile

There is a time limit of a few weeks to be able to edit posts. Would not be good to have the ability to rewrite history. It has always been this way.

Are you trying to update Chimaera or upgrade to Daedalus? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding something . . . wouldn't be the first time.

Nice to see you, greenjeans. It's been a while. What a wonderful project you're working on! I have a soft spot for libraries as I worked for a while in the University of Chicago library many decades ago. I got pretty good at finding misfiled items many floors down in the musty dark caverns. It was a bit creepy but fun too. big_smile Do let us know when the website is launched and we can celebrate your accomplishment!

Ozi Traveller last posted on this forum on 2022-07-10 18:30:38 and on the DNG mailing list on 2020-09-16. Seems he has vanished. I haven't a clue . . .

@zapper . . . Of course.

#310 Re: Packaging for Devuan » about debian, a warning » 2024-10-31 01:18:15

@Camtaf . . . Another option to abandoning ship might be to roll up your sleeves and contribute to finding a way to turn things around.  Just sayin' . . .  wink

What rock have you been hiding under, zapper? Devuan Excalibur will be merged and needs to be upgraded to "merged" in Daedalus before moving to Excalibur.

UsrMerge Status: Testing/Excalibur and more

@GlennW . . . Yes, timing is important. For about a week the dev1galaxy forum has actually presented itself as a TECHNICAL support resource for the Devuan community as it should be, instead of a relentless churning of off-topic nonsense. It has been a bit like removing a thorn from the bottom of your foot . . .

#315 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2024-10-18 00:08:04

If you are not living in the reality of the present you are living a fantasy.  Sooner or later, when you least expect it, there will be a price to pay for the comfort of that avoidance. Sadly, humans keep repeating that cycle over and over and over . . .

#316 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2024-10-17 22:26:40

This thread is overdue for a timeout . . . can we please just freeze it for a few days or more? We shouldn't be wasting devuan resources on this nonsense.

/me goes back to boycotting this useless thread . . .

Thank you for that lovely post, goat. However, playing devils advocate . . .  sometimes truth hurts and even a Zen master has a stick. wink

@quickfur . . .Yes, and I have just re-read New Devuan user here in which you received a very warm welcome.

In that post you gave some personal history regarding Debian/Devuan and your personal life. You were showered with a warm welcome and plenty of information.

You are very good with words but haven't a clue about the history and interpersonal relationships that it has taken to get Devuan to this point and makes it so special. It has been about love and joy and cooperation.

Seems you might not be a good fit with the ethos here . . .

I do hope that you can learn to deal with your anger more constructively going forward . . .

#322 Re: Off-topic » Thank you Devuan » 2024-10-08 19:53:29

@quickfur . . . No, I am disappointed that you choose to shoot the messenger rather than engage Devuan in a meaningful way. If I have missed something, please correct me.

And who is this mythical "WE" of whom you speak? You have no git account. AFAIK have never been seen on IRC or even the mailing lists, at least as quickfur. And one of our jitsi meets? Hahahaha! What have YOU contributed to Devuan besides an endless stream of wasted bits in OT and empty rousing rhetoric to encourage someone else to do the work for you. Epic fail . . ..
