I copied the image using dd to an external USB disk .
I downloaded the new version but I can not start the computer from the installation disk devuan_chimaera_4.0.0_amd64_netinstall.iso
The iso image contain pae kernel headers instead of non-pae. I reported this in the post above. (
The non-pae kernel is default for those with old machines. The linux-headers package is in the iso, but it does not get installed by default. That's standard for debian and consequently for devuan.
.
I'm upset that the bug was not fixed in the final version of the disk Devuan GNU/Linux 3.0 (beowulf) i386 - desktop 20200526
I found some links to an existing problem in the installation log

Thank you for the answer. I put initrd.gz, vmlinuz from the above source on the hard drive partition and added to the bootloader:
menuentry "Dev1 beowulf netinst " {
set root='(hd0,gpt2)'
linux /boot/linux priority=low vga=788 ---
initrd /boot/initrd.gz
}
The hd-media method allows you to install the system from your hard drive, without using a USB flash drive or compact disc drive.
I try to install a devuan_beowulf_3.0.0_i386-netinstall.iso using a hd-media method, from https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/dis … nt/images/
I have two network cards:
# lspci -k |grep -A3 net
02:05.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c940 10/100/1000Base-T [Marvell] (rev 12)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. A7V600/P4P800/K8V motherboard
Kernel driver in use: skge
Kernel modules: skge

02:0d.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 (rev 08)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation EtherExpress PRO/100+ Management Adapter

Kernel modules: e100
The installer cannot detect these cards.
qasmixer also good
beta2 live isos are up.
If it is possible to post isos using jigdo, I will download and testing.
Guys, not sure if this is the place to post problems but here we go:
6. Boot and general running feel slower compared to ASCII (intel i3-380m, 8G ram, SSD)
Yes, I also confirm, not using ssd. I tried different kernels. Thunar run slowly, the interface is stupidly slow compared to acsii. But most likely this is no longer a Devuan problem.
Guys, not sure if this is the place to post problems but here we go:
7. Not a bug but is it possible to use XFCE 4.14? Need 4K HIDPI.
You can try changing the source.list to chimaera instead beowulf
Look at this old thread: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=2023
rolfie
It works. thx!
I installed XFCE4 and lightdm. On the welcome screen, where you need to enter a username and password, the buttons for shutting down and rebooting are inactive at the top right. How to make them active? Maybe I missed something from the installation packages?
You are not using display manager?
dmesg displays an error when loading relatively group "kvm".
Wouldn't it be a mistake to do so or not?
/lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules
# KERNEL=="kvm", GROUP="kvm", MODE="0666" , OPTIONS+="static_node=kvm"
If there was more to the refractasnapshot message, I'd like to see it.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
refractasnapshot-base : Depends: syslinux (< 3:6.03) but 3:6.04~git20190206.bf6db5b4+dfsg1-1 is to be installed or
isolinux (>= 3:6.03) which is a virtual package and is not provided by any available package
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:
Keep the following packages at their current version:
1) refractasnapshot-base [Not Installed]
The linux-headers package is in the iso, but it does not get installed by default.
# aptitude search headers
i A linux-headers-4.19.0-8-686-pae - Header files for Linux 4.19.0-8-686-pae

i A linux-headers-686-pae - Header files for Linux 686-pae configuration (meta-package)
v linux-kernel-headers
It also installs 4.19.0-8-686 instead of 4.19.0-8-686-pae kernel, without headers from 4.19.0-8-686
I installed 3.0.0_beta_i386_desktop.iso After removing the pulse, the shortcut remained in the menu (/usr/share/applications/pavucontrol.desktop)
refractasnapshot does not want to be installed. Depends: syslinux (<3: 6.03)
Also packet locales not installing
I'm tryin to install Beowulf from netinstall and dvd, system not bootting:
fsck.jfs not found
Try /usr/bin/dispwin ~/profile.icc
# dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config
I found an entry in the installation log that the package "openrc" was not found.
two lines deeper openrc 0.23 starting
I checked on my machine this is not displayed.
