system-config-printer

Hello
The printer tool system-config.printer starts on my laptop with MX Linux without lock. Can you set it up like this in Devuan? If so, how does it work?
I would also like to turn off the "Discovered Printers" function, but the check mark appears again and so network printers are always displayed twice.
Will there be a better tool in the future?

From what I have read on-line, that package is just a GUI to configure the CUPS print server.

But CUPS has its own configuration interface accessible via any web browser. ie: http://localhost:631/admin
What is the use of another configuration interface for CUPS?

Unless it is a(nother) solution looking for a problem.

Better than CUPS?
We may (if needed) get a better/improved version of it as it is maintained in a timely fashion.

I am familiar with the configuration of CUPS via http://localhost:631/admin and I also use it.
But...
there are a few people I have installed Devuan for. I chose Devuan because I don't like systemd and because I liked the option of dist-upgrade and have now also used it when upgrading to daedalus. It worked great on two computers.
The system-config-printer tool is what the normal user is offered in the menu. And that’s where the above-mentioned questions came from. I hope someone in the forum can answer it.

According to the help dialogue system-config-printer is an old RedHat development. Its a tool for cups.

I like it the way it is. I want it locked to avoid that any user can modify settings and then complain that the printer does not work. Its an admin tool.

I am not aware about any configuration option that allows to remove the root password. I am not familiar with MX Linux. Maybe they have used a policy to remove the need for a password entry? Have a look at /usr/share/polkit-1/actions (Debian path).

Same in CUPS: making changes needs the admin PW.
