No Jami in Excalibur

I was running Jami in Daedalus, but it seems to have disappeared in Excalibur. A repository search only shows the Daedalus version. Do I need to add back the old Daedalus repositories to get it working again?

Indeed ...

As you can see, there does not seem to be a jami package in Debian stable:
https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=jami
No idea why ...
But it is in unstable and experimental.

As a result, there is no jami package in Devuan Excalibur:
https://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/poli … 1.84.27.71
ie: not in the Debian repositories? Then it will not be in the Devuan repositories.

Will the Daedalus version install/run on Excalibur?
Can't say, never used it.

That said, if it was in the Debian repositories and it is not there now (-> degraded to testing), there must be something going on.

Best,

A.

Re: No Jami in Excalibur

I noticed that the same thing happened with lazpaint-gtk2, trimage and speedcrunch packages, they are not in Trixie/Excalibur even though they were available previously. It also used to be the case with acetoneiso in Bookworm/Daedalus, it was missing from there but now it's back in the repos.

It's pretty annoying when it occurs, but I agree that there must be a reason for the disappearance of particular versions - lack of maintainers, bugs etc. It might be a good idea to visit the software's website to see what's going on, sometimes they offer deb packages or source tarballs for (hopefully successful) installation. There also may be suitable software alternatives in the repositories.

Curiously enough, the jami website does offer Debian (12, 11, testing and unstable) versions for download albeit from their own repository:
https://jami.net/download-jami-linux/

Maybe it is all due to some spat between the systemd-kingdom and the jamis?

Yes, there's jitsi which I have seen works well enough.

Best,

Re: No Jami in Excalibur

When packages have been dropped from a release, it may be worth checking the Debian/Devuan bug list.
