I think you're describing "auto login". In the the config file of your dm (whatever that is) there should be an option to toggle yes/no. I think there is even an option to set that during installation but I don't do that often enough to be sure.
The login manger is slim. Uses F1 to switch between WM/DEs. Its pretty parse and doesn't appear to have a auto login option.
I would like to set this system to boot directly to the MATE desktop on startup. I've searched google but not found anything Devuan/Debian specific. Using Jessie i386.
How do I go about this?
Thanks in advance.
With my old CrunchBang install this was quite easy to do using GDM.
I use to have my Red Hat 7.3 install set up like that as well.
On my first install of i386 jessy I installed XFCE4 as my default DE. It would hang with no response to the mouse or keyboard. This is after about 15 minutes using a web browser(Firefox and Pale Moon). I've since reinstalled jessy because I and using MATE and jessy everthing is working as it should.
i386.
Yess it happens past the software selection part. After the software selection bit where its downloaded all the hardware and unpacking.
I don't have details of the card but it downloaded everything ok. I don't think it was a problem with the wireless card.
By freeze I mean it stopped unpacking on rardom packages after downloading them.
Its installed now and I am quite happy with it. Wireless is working just fine.
Had a bit of a problem today with the Jessy net inst. I was trying to install it over wireless but it kept freezing up at configuring various files in the select and install part of the install. I tried to reinstall a few times. Finally gave up and decided to hook it up with ethernet in the spare room. It installed fine.
Thanks very much. All fixed. Well sudo is. apt-file still doesn't work.
Just a quick thanks for creating this 32-bit distro. It works real well on my P4 with 1 gig of ram. If also detected my old CrunchBang and placed it in grub which I was pleased with.
apt-file doesn't function. It fails to make a contents cache it would seem.
I tried to make my user a member of the sudo group but it wouldn't take.
I'm using the 32-bit version.
